Chapter 114: Chapter 114: The difference between us

"You see, Peci, what I am about to tell you is the greatest secret that a few humans know..." Suddenly, Ronan’s expression changed as he looked at Peci, who suddenly felt the change in the mood as his heart started accelerating.

Was this the secret to Basha’s breakthrough to the Five-Star Sovereign Realm?

Basha’s plam was on his shoulders, his eyes serious as he spoke word for word.

"Some people are just generally more talented than others. I know it is hard, but it is something you have to live with," Ronan said with pity as he looked at Peci.

Peci’s expression froze as he looked at Basha looking at him with pity, even shaking his head.

Wait, what?

What the hell, you...

"Bullshit!" Peci slapped Basha’s hand away, his body trembling.

"Fine, don’t tell me." Peci stood up angrily as he left.

What do you mean talented? Was he not talented? Do you know how many people cannot even reach the Sovereign Realm in their lives?

I did it. I might not be a monster and all, but I do have talent. But...

Peci stopped in his tracks. Truly, Basha had been different. Since he entered the camp, he had done things even he couldn’t do.

He killed five One-Star Sovereign Realm experts while being at the Peak of the Transcendent Realm. He and his team infiltrated the Orc tribe settlement, planted the seed, with him killing over 5,000 Orcs in the process.

Wait a minute. Basha was never normal. No, that kid was a monster, so him breaking through to the fifth star of the Sovereign Realm might not be impossible. Maybe he could have broken through since, but he was intentionally holding back.

So that means, like Basha said, he had no talent?

Peci stood with his back to the tent where Ronan was as warm tears dropped from his eyes.

What a pity. You can’t even comprehend the words of a monster. Then how can you even be in the world of monsters?

My brother Basha, you are right... some people are just more talented than others.

---

Meanwhile, back in the tent...

Ronan had a pity expression on his face. Had he broken Peci? What a shame.

But that aside, how would he even explain suddenly being at the fifth star of the Sovereign Realm?

But was it his fault that the people in this world weren’t that talented?

It was noon when Ronan left his tent as he realized they were not inside the city, but tents had been set outside while the soldiers packed the corpses of the dead.

Most were searching for their loved ones, trying to salvage their body parts as they buried them.

Ronan saw tens of thousands of erected graves as the mood was sunken.

He sighed. What a shame for these people to have been killed.

"Basha, come with me."

Just as Ronan was lamenting, he heard a voice as the Mayor appeared behind him.

Ronan turned to him and bowed lightly.

"Mayor," Ronan spoke as the Mayor nodded and left, with Ronan following behind him.

Ronan couldn’t explain himself. All he knew was he felt different. If it was before, his heart would have been racing with the Mayor at his front, but now he was calm, maybe too calm.

They left the tent and went into the city, stopping at a familiar shop.

The scent of food wafted in the air as Ronan gulped. He was feeling hungry. He couldn’t help but remember the old man he met when he and the women entered the city.

Could it be?

Ronan frowned.

Was that man alive?

Thinking of it, that old man wasn’t seen throughout the sacrifice. Ronan felt genuine fear as he followed the Mayor into the shop.

Inside, he could see Yen and Hesa laughing with the small girl, Asha.

Meanwhile, the sound of metals hitting one another was heard at the back, which should be the old man.

"Father!" Asha suddenly stood up as she rushed towards the Mayor, as Ronan’s eyes widened.

Wait, this girl was the Mayor’s daughter?

Seeing the Mayor burst into a smile as he hugged the girl made Ronan’s heart finally skip a beat. Soon, from the back, the old man came out as Ronan wondered what would happen now.

There was no way the old man didn’t know what happened. Now, thinking of the fact that he knew ronan and the women were undead, it could only mean he knew it was Ronan that orchestrated everything.

So, doesn’t that mean this place was where he would die?

Like sensing his thoughts, the old man looked at Ronan and smiled as Ronan felt goosebumps.

"Thank you, Jolan. If not for you, old man, my daughter would have died in the hands of vampires," the Mayor spoke as Jolan merely smiled.

"Don’t say that. She is my disciple too. It is okay."

"As for the vampire attack..." The old man paused as the expressions of Hesa, Yen, and Ronan simultaneously changed.

For Yen and Hesa, they had met the Mayor earlier and were brought here.

They knew they were either screwed or could make a way out of here. It all depended on this old man.

His words could very well be their life or death.

"You should be thanking these three adventurers. They were the ones that gave their all to try and save the city, albeit they weren’t strong enough," Jolan spoke as he dropped the food on the table.

Asha smiled as she looked at the steam rising from the dishes. Meanwhile, Ronan and the women’s eyes were in shock, not understanding why the old man was doing this.

From what he said, one could guess he was aware of what happened, and if so, then shouldn’t he kill them, capture them, or, at the very least, tell the Mayor? But he actually made everything clear.

Seeing the closeness between him and the Mayor, the Mayor would believe him.

The three couldn’t believe something like this wasn’t a trap. Either that or they owed the old man a favor.

"Oh, really? Thank you, then. Alas, you were not strong enough... You know, I wish your strength was what it was then. Although you might not be able to defeat the Vampire Lord, you could save some people." The Mayor cast his eyes on Ronan as Ronan came to understand that his realm wasn’t a secret.

Hesa and Yen’s mouths were open in shock. They just realized Ronan was stronger than them and was already a Five-Star Sovereign Realm being.

"Ah... Thank you, Mayor, and old man Jolan," Ronan spoke with a bow.

"Ah, it is nothing. Everyone, eat. As for Ronan, can I see you for a moment?" Old man Jolan spoke.

Here it comes.

Ronan couldn’t help but think.
