Chapter 428: Chapter 374: Farm (Part 2)

Lin Yi deliberately adopted an official tone.

Hearing this, a guilty look flashed in Old Qian’s eyes.

He quickly composed himself, however, and hurried to catch up with a smile. "Sir, how could that be?" ℯ𝓵.

"I just told Captain Tang. We’re a legitimate furniture factory!"

"If you don’t believe me, please, take a look around. We wouldn’t dare do anything illegal!"

Lin Yi didn’t answer, instead continuing deeper into the factory.

Once they were past the factory gates, he finally spoke again. "Whether or not you’ve broken the law isn’t for you to decide."

"If I say you’re breaking the law, you are. If I say you’re not, you’re not. Understand?"

As soon as the words were out, Old Qian’s eyes darted back and forth.

With things laid out so plainly, how could he not understand the hidden meaning?

He scurried closer and said, "Yes, yes, of course! You’re absolutely right, Sir!"

"I understand what you mean..."

He then took out the same envelope Tang Zhan had confiscated just moments ago.

He was about to hand it to Lin Yi, but then he hesitated and pulled it back.

Then, from another pocket, he pulled out a second red envelope, just as thick as the first.

He then rushed forward and stuffed it into Lin Yi’s pocket.

"Just a small token of my appreciation, Sir. Please don’t take offense. It’s just to buy the boys a round of drinks!"

"Later on, I’ll be sure to pay you a personal visit!"

After Old Qian finished speaking with a smile,

Lin Yi whipped his head around to look at him. "What do you think you’re doing? Are you trying to bribe me?"

"No, no, no! That’s not my intention at all! It’s just to treat the boys to a drink.

After all, you’ve come all this way. You must be tired from the journey. A drink will help you relax..."

While he spoke, he had already slipped the red envelope and the first envelope into Lin Yi’s pocket.

When he saw that Lin Yi had no intention of refusing,

Old Qian finally breathed a long sigh of relief.

’As long as he takes the money, everything else will be easy to handle.’

’And today’s inspection will just be a routine check.’

However, just as they were speaking,

a worker came running over, his face pale with panic.

Upon seeing Lin Yi and Tang Zhan, he leaned in close to Old Qian,

pulling him aside to whisper a few words in his ear.

After listening, Old Qian’s expression changed drastically.

He nodded and walked back over to Lin Yi.

"Sir, about that..."

Before Old Qian could finish, Lin Yi smiled and glanced behind him.

"You two, go take a look. Tell the people inside to be sharp."

"Yes, sir!"

Wei Shang and Wei Nan nodded quickly.

They sprinted deeper into the factory.

Just then, Tang Zhan walked over with a smile. "Old Qian, don’t worry about the inspection. Come on, let’s go sit in your office for a bit. Have some tea and calm your nerves, eh?"

"Sir came all this way. Shouldn’t you let him rest for a moment?"

Tang Zhan’s reminder seemed to snap Old Qian back to his senses.

He quickly nodded. "Yes, yes, of course! Uh, Sir, why don’t we go to my office and sit for a while?"

Lin Yi glanced at him and smiled.

"Very well. Let’s go to your office, then."

And so, the group headed straight for Old Qian’s office.

But the moment they stepped inside,

the smiles instantly vanished from the faces of Wei Shang, Wei Nan, and Feng Lei, who were outside conducting their "routine inspection."

Wei Shang then pulled out his phone. "Shan Kui, you can move in now!"

After he hung up,

it wasn’t long before over a hundred people suddenly appeared outside the factory.

Before the people in the factory could even react,

Wei Shang, Feng Lei, and their team had already taken control of the factory workers.

Shan Kui, leading the Right Martial Guard, swiftly seized the factory’s main gate.

They gave them no time to react.

Once all the factory workers were secured,

Wei Shang and the others headed for the entrance to the underground breeding facility.

They arrived at a large iron door.

"This should be the place!"

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s open it and go in!"

With that, Wei Nan went straight to the door and pushed it open.

RUMBLE—

A heavy, muffled sound echoed out.

The instant the iron door swung open, a foul wind gusted out from within.

The wind carried a putrid, fishy stench, like old blood and rust, that was nauseating.

Their expressions hardened, and a flicker of rage crossed their eyes.

’This was all the proof they needed. They had found the right place.’

Wei Shang gave a wave, and the rest of the team charged down into the darkness.

...

Meanwhile, Old Qian still had no idea what was happening outside.

He personally brewed a pot of tea for Lin Yi and Tang Zhan.

He brought it over with a smile. "My esteemed sirs, please, have some tea!"

He then poured a cup for Lin Yi and another for Tang Zhan.

He himself remained standing respectfully to the side, not daring to sit.

Lin Yi glanced down at his teacup and asked with a smile, "Old Qian, how long have you been running this place?"

"Uh... a little over half a year!"

"Just over half a year?"

Lin Yi glanced at him, chuckled lightly, and continued, "Looks like your business is doing pretty well!"

"Barely more than half a year, and you already have this many orders?"

"I saw those trucks outside earlier. All ready for shipment, I assume?"

"Yes, sir. That’s because our factory’s materials and craftsmanship are all top-notch!"

"We would never dream of cutting corners or using shoddy wood to deceive our customers!"

"That’s why our factory gets so many orders. It all comes down to customer trust!"

Old Qian’s spiel was so convincing it almost made Lin Yi believe him.

Lin Yi chuckled and nodded. "However... I’ve also heard that this furniture factory of yours is secretly raising demonic beasts?"

"What?"

The moment Lin Yi laid his cards on the table,

Old Qian’s face changed dramatically.

"No, no, no, Sir! There’s absolutely nothing like that going on!"

"How could we possibly be raising demonic beasts..."

Before Old Qian could finish his explanation, Lin Yi smiled again. "And your feed... that wouldn’t happen to be those missing students, would it?"

"How many feeding grounds do you have in Xinghai City?"

Lin Yi’s words were spoken casually,

but to Old Qian, they were like a bomb

detonating right over his head.

In that instant, he finally understood.

A wary look filled his eyes. "Who... who are you?" ℯ

Lin Yi smiled. "Town Martial Department."

"What? You... you’re from the Town Martial Department?"

Hearing this, Old Qian’s eyes filled with terror.

He spun around and made a break for the door.

But Lin Yi just gave a contemptuous smile.

He remained seated, perfectly still.

Just as Old Qian reached the door, his body seized up as if he’d been electrocuted.

He shuddered violently, then froze in place.

Tang Zhan, curious, stood up and walked over to Old Qian.

He had just tapped him on the shoulder.

THUD—

Old Qian’s body, as if it had no support,

toppled straight backward.

Old Qian’s face was a mask of terror, his eyes wide and staring, but he was already dead.

Only then did Lin Yi lift his cup and take a leisurely sip of tea.

Tang Zhan checked Old Qian’s carotid artery, then looked up in astonishment. "He’s dead?"

Lin Yi smiled. "Let’s go. Time to see how Wei Shang and his team are progressing."

With that, Lin Yi stood up and walked out.

He didn’t spare Old Qian’s body a second glance.

’Just a moment ago, he had used his [Spirit Blade] skill.’

’He had killed Old Qian instantly with a mental attack.’

Tang Zhan looked at Lin Yi, then looked at Old Qian’s corpse on the ground.

An involuntary chill ran down his spine.

’Today’s Lin Yi seems even stronger than he was a year ago.’

’Terrifyingly so.’

’Old Qian had been the nominal head of this furniture factory, so his cultivation level was naturally not low. He was already at a 5-star level.’

’And yet, a man with a 5-star cultivation level...’

’...had been killed so inexplicably right in front of him.’

’And Lin Yi hadn’t even moved from his seat...’

’How could Tang Zhan not be both shocked and terrified? The Lin Yi of today was no longer the green, naive high school student from just over a year ago.’

’He has grown into a towering tree.’

’And Tang Zhan can only stand before him and look up in awe.’
