The Entire Mountain Is My Hunting Ground

‘How did they end up here again?’

At that moment, at the foot of the mountain, Black Tiger accelerated again, swiftly appearing on the right flank of the sounder of boars.

The moment they saw Black Tiger about to overtake them, the four young boars instinctively veered diagonally uphill—right into Zhao Jun’s path.

When all four of the “Little Yellows” appeared in his line of sight, Zhao Jun froze for a second.

But seeing someone ahead, the four young boars paid it no mind and charged straight for Zhao Jun.

Snapping back to his senses, Zhao Jun quickly dodged aside, taking cover behind a large tree. He brought the rifle to his cheek and aligned the sights. He quartered the first boar with his front sight.

The instant the boar’s snout entered his sights, Zhao Jun pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The first young boar was hit just behind the front elbow. Blood spurted from its side as it lurched left and collapsed.

BANG!

Again, he led his target perfectly, firing the moment its snout appeared in his sights.

Through his sights, Zhao Jun saw another young boar tumble over. The bullet passed clean through it and shattered the hind leg of the third boar running alongside it!

‘Skewered them!’

Zhao Jun swiveled his muzzle. He saw the fourth young boar bounding as it ran, led his shot, and just as it leaped again, the fourth shot rang out.

BANG!

The fourth young boar took a bullet to the right ribs. It flipped over, convulsed, and died.

Zhao Jun lowered his rifle, stepped out from behind the tree, and headed straight west.

This was the opposite direction from where the other eight dogs were holding down the sow. But the young boar with the broken leg was running this way!

And Black Tiger, with Cyan Dragon and Black Dragon in tow, was in hot pursuit!

Don’t be fooled by its limp; the frightened and wounded young boar was running for its life, heedless of everything, dragging its ruined leg behind it.

But with a crippled leg, it was no match for Black Tiger.

This time, as he caught up to the young boar, Black Tiger attacked from behind without hesitation.

Weighing over a hundred pounds, Black Tiger’s pounce was enough to drag the young boar straight to the ground.

The young boar rolled over, only to feel a tearing pain in its groin. It couldn’t help but stretch its neck, shake its head, and let out a desperate squeal.

But a boar’s anatomy prevents it from bending its legs to kick at Black Tiger with its hooves.

The most it could do was try to close its haunches and kick its legs toward the sky.

Black Tiger bit down on the young boar’s groin, planted its four paws, and with a shake of its shoulders, put its whole body into it. Clenching its jaw, the dog ripped left and right, tearing away the boar’s entire manhood.

“SQUEAL! SQUEAL! SQUEAL…” The young boar’s cry was shrill and piercing, cutting through the forest and stabbing at the eardrums.

Freed from Black Tiger’s attack, the frantically kicking young boar finally managed to get upright, but it just lay there, motionless.

It wanted to get up—no, the pain was so bad it didn’t want to get up. It could only let out agonized squeals to vent its suffering.

Black Tiger shook its head, spat out what was in its mouth, tucked in its hind legs, lowered its front, and lay down on the spot.

It just watched the young boar wail, while Cyan Dragon and Black Dragon stood beside it, looking on at the scene in confusion.

The two pups were still too young; they hadn’t yet learned to bite prey.

Just then, Zhao Jun arrived. Hearing his footsteps, Cyan Dragon and Black Dragon turned, and Black Tiger got up and wheeled around. The three dogs scurried over to Zhao Jun’s side. As he walked forward, they followed, leaping and bounding in an obvious attempt to curry favor.

Zhao Jun approached the young boar and looked at it, a little surprised. ‘A broken leg shouldn’t cause this much pain, should it?’

Little did he know, this young boar now effectively had *two* broken legs.

To put the young boar out of its misery, Zhao Jun snapped out his bayonet and went forward to end its life.

“Awoo, awoo, awoo…” This Black Tiger was different from other hounds. It didn’t acknowledge guns or knives. Seeing Zhao Jun kill the boar, it didn’t approach but just stood there, whining insistently.

Zhao Jun knew the mutt was reminding him that it was time to be fed some meat.

But Zhao Jun really didn’t have time to deal with it. He turned, waved towards the east, and said, “Black Tiger, go!”

Black Tiger actually listened, whining as it ran east, with Cyan Dragon and Black Dragon following right behind.

Zhao Jun didn’t have time to gut the young boar. He grabbed his rifle and also ran east. The sound of barking dogs echoed from that direction, and it was stationary, which meant they had caught a boar and pinned it down.

But halfway there, Zhao Jun stopped. Black Tiger and the two pups were lying beside the three young boars he had just shot dead.

Zhao Jun could only wave forward again and shout, “Black Tiger, keep going!”

Before, it was one boar. Now, there were three. Black Tiger absolutely refused to move. It lay on the ground, glanced at Zhao Jun, then at the Little Yellows. It looked back at Zhao Jun, then turned again to stare at the Little Yellows.

Seeing its behavior, Zhao Jun couldn’t help but remember the first time he took Black Tiger hunting in the mountains. The mutt had its leg broken by a large stag, and it was still thinking about eating.

You have to understand, after a hound gets injured, it usually won’t eat for the first two days, and might even have a poor appetite for the next half a month.

But this one? With a broken leg, it had refused to move until it got some meat.

At this thought, Zhao Jun walked up behind Black Tiger. Seeing Zhao Jun approach, Black Tiger wagged its tail even more enthusiastically.

But what it didn’t expect was for Zhao Jun to lift his foot and give it a swift kick in the rear.

With a yelp, Black Tiger shot up. This time, without needing any command from Zhao Jun, it took off running. Seeing this, Cyan Dragon and Black Dragon hurried to follow.

When Zhao Jun reached the sow, he finished off the weakly struggling animal with his knife. He had just shooed the Dog Gang away when Zhang Yuanmin and Jie Chen came rushing over.

“Brother,” Zhang Yuanmin said, panting for breath. He pointed at Black Tiger and asked Zhao Jun, “What’s up with your dog?”

Zhao Jun glanced at Black Tiger but didn’t answer. Instead, he pointed back west and said to Zhang Yuanmin and Jie Chen, “Big Bro, Jie Chen, you two hurry over there. I shot four of the yellow-haired ones in total. Three are in one spot. A little further on, there’s another one by itself.”

“You got four?” Zhang Yuanmin’s face lit up with joy.

Zhao Jun nodded. “Big Bro, go on. Gut them quickly. We can sell them for good money back home.”

Hearing the word “money,” Zhang Yuanmin and Jie Chen nodded repeatedly and both ran off to the west.

Zhao Jun turned the sow over by himself, drew the Deer Hide Knife that Zhang Yuanmin had given him, and began to gut it. He pulled out the intestines and hung them, along with the stomach, on a nearby tree.

Then, he removed the heart, liver, and lungs. He first cut the boar’s heart vertically into four strips and shouted, “Black Tiger!”

The moment Zhao Jun finished speaking, Black Tiger scrambled up from the ground and ran toward him, wagging its tail.

Zhao Jun offered it a strip of heart, and Black Tiger swallowed it whole. He offered another, and Black Tiger swallowed that too. He offered a third, and Black Tiger still gulped it down.

Zhao Jun didn’t give the last strip to Black Tiger. Instead, he called over Little Bear and gave it to him.

Little Bear took the heart and went off to the side to gnaw on it. Zhao Jun then started on the liver. The large, warm liver was too big for him to hold in one hand, but there happened to be a tree stump nearby. Zhao Jun placed the liver on it and used his knife to cut it into ten large strips. He fed two pieces to Black Tiger, but not only did the mutt swallow them whole, it still refused to leave.

Zhao Jun ignored it and called out, “Big Fatty!” Big Fatty waddled over happily. Zhao Jun picked up a piece of liver and offered it to him. Wagging its tail, Big Fatty stretched its head out to take the liver from Zhao Jun’s hand.

Afraid of accidentally biting Zhao Jun, Big Fatty’s movements were slow and very careful.

But just as Big Fatty’s teeth were about to touch the liver, a low “huff-huff” sound came from beside him.

Big Fatty quickly turned its head and saw Black Tiger across from it, glaring and baring its teeth.

Not to be outdone, Big Fatty’s gaze instantly filled with killing intent. It curled its lips back and also let out a threatening “huff-huff” sound from between its teeth.

“Hey!” Zhao Jun shouted. If these two dogs started fighting with him in the middle, he was one hundred percent going to get caught in the crossfire.

Alarmed, Zhao Jun barked another command, tossed the piece of liver aside, and raised his hand to smack Big Fatty on the head.

At Zhao Jun’s shout, Big Fatty pulled its large head back a bit. But seeing Zhao Jun’s hand coming, it just ducked its neck and shut its eyes.

Zhao Jun’s hand didn’t land on Big Fatty’s head. Seeing it flinch back, he let it go.

Just then, Black Tiger on the other side fell silent. Zhao Jun turned to look. The mutt was staring at the liver on the tree stump, its tail wagging like a drum rattle.

The instant Zhao Jun looked at it, the dog’s big, dark, glossy eyes met his, and it opened its mouth, waiting to be fed.

Zhao Jun had been planning to give it a piece after he cut the lungs. Then the stomach, then the intestines—as long as Black Tiger wanted to eat, he’d let it have its fill. But seeing it act like this now, Zhao Jun smacked it with the back of his hand.

“Yelp!” Pained, Black Tiger cried out, tucked its tail between its legs, and ran to the side to perform its special regurgitation trick.
