Chapter 1423: Chapter 1423: Gotta Admit It

"How’s it going? How do you feel?"

Early the next morning, Liu Banxia went straight to Wang Chao after arriving at the emergency center.

"Ah... I wanted to get a good night’s sleep last night, but I couldn’t sleep well." Wang Chao sighed.

"I haven’t been this nervous in years. If it were an open surgery, I might not be so tense, but why am I nervous doing it laparoscopically?"

"It’s normal. In terms of your life, this is also your first time, after all." Liu Banxia said seriously.

Wang Chao rolled his eyes, feeling like this guy was teasing him, but without any proof.

"Teacher Wang, how’s it going? Ready to go on stage?" At this moment, Xu Yino came over.

"Whether you stretch your head or shrink it, it’s the same blade, let’s do it, let’s push the patient." Wang Chao waved his hand.

"Teacher Wang, good luck."

Liu Yiqing shouted from a distance.

"Teacher Wang, good luck."

The other interns also shouted.

"Thank you, everyone. If Director Liu were doing the surgery, it would be quick. But with me doing it, who knows. So, can we save our extra meal for the evening?" Wang Chao said.

"Teacher Wang, don’t worry, everything will be fine." Huang Bo shouted.

"Alright, it’s decided." Wang Chao said happily.

Inside, he felt a bit moved. Usually, he took care of this group often, and now for him to do a surgery and receive such support from them, it was really worth it.

"Not bad, united as one. Wang Chao, you have to work hard." Zhou Shuwen, who happened to walk in, also gave some encouragement.

"As long as Banxia is watching over me, I feel relieved." Wang Chao said with a smile.

"However, no matter when you finish, you have to treat me to a meal first, or else I can’t relax." Liu Banxia chimed in.

"You can’t escape from me, what’s the rush." Wang Chao murmured.

Liu Banxia looked at Wang Chao and smiled, saying nothing.

Instinctively, Wang Chao felt a bad premonition. He just had a feeling that at such a critical moment, Liu Banxia wouldn’t mess with him.

But now he was a bit worried, all because Liu Banxia was too mischievous.

Once in the operating room, Wang Chao looked at Liu Banxia with a gaze that couldn’t just be described as resentful.

"Why are you looking at me like that? After all, it’s a laparoscopic right hepatectomy, one of the more complex laparoscopic procedures in general surgery, not a bit less challenging than a pancreaticoduodenectomy." Liu Banxia said.

"Is that your reason for sneakily changing the operating room to the teaching operating room?" Wang Chao asked sullenly.

"Yes. Are you happy? Surprised? Unexpected?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

"Xu Yino, tell me honestly, did you all know about this long ago?" Wang Chao looked at Xu Yino.

"Teacher Wang, if I said I didn’t know a thing, how credible would you find that?" Xu Yino countered with a question.

"Ah... you all definitely knew. You actually teamed up with the great demon king to trick me. No wonder you just cheered me on, my heart..." Wang Chao wore a face of mild sorrow.

"Hehe, knowing that Teacher Wang usually protects us from being bullied by the great demon king, today we’re treating you to a meal. How about it? Happy? Surprised? Unexpected?" Xu Yino asked with a smile.

"Ah... one misstep can lead to eternal regret, friendship over." Wang Chao said seriously, then changed his tone, "I want to eat pig trotters and a pot of the fish in spicy boiling broth they had yesterday."

"Absolutely, no problem at all." Xu Yino said.

Even though he was tricked again by the great demon king, Wang Chao felt even happier than before.

Being treated like this was a privilege only the great demon king could enjoy.

Arriving at the operating room, today’s anesthesiologist was Wang Lei. This was someone Wang Chao personally requested for a more secure procedure.

"Teacher Wang, the patient’s information has been verified." The second assistant, Cui Jia, who arrived early at the operating room reported.

"Good, proceed with anesthesia." Wang Chao nodded.

Wang Lei quickly got to work, knowing that for Wang Chao, this surgery wouldn’t be as quick as if Liu Banxia were doing it. Being a lengthy procedure, any additional time wasn’t beneficial for the patient’s condition.

"Cui Jia, start the puncture."

When the patient was successfully anesthetized, Xu Yino said.

Cui Jia quickly got to work.

Being the second assistant in such a major surgery made her very happy.

Moreover, there wasn’t much difficulty in this operation. Having been interns for so long, if they couldn’t even manage the probe puncture, all their learning would have been in vain.

"Inspection shows a small amount of ascites in the patient’s abdominal cavity, with adhesions. No metastatic nodules are observed on the stomach, intestines, omentum, or abdominal wall. The tumor is located in the right liver, about 6 cm in diameter, hard in texture. Laparoscopic right hepatectomy is deemed feasible."

After the inspection, Cui Jia reported.

"OK, continue with the remaining incisions," Wang Chao said.

He also saw the situation on the screen and was a bit troubled by the adhesions here.

However, this was expected; the patient had been ill for too long, and these adhesions were already quite tolerable.

"Don’t worry, this isn’t a big problem."

Liu Banxia spoke up.

"Yeah, no problem, it can be done, it must be done," Wang Chao also cheered himself on.

In fact, Liu Banxia was also quite sentimental. It seemed like only a few days ago when he first performed a partial hepatectomy.

At that time, Zhou Shuwen was indeed bold enough to leave it to him. He also wasn’t timid, allowing the six juniors to assist.

Now it’s Wang Chao’s turn. After observing so many liver surgeries, he felt that Wang Chao had the ability to handle this operation.

But even now, he wasn’t completely relaxed and watched Wang Chao’s operation on the screen intently.

It was probably his first major surgery, so Wang Chao’s movements were a bit tense, and he was sweating quickly.

This was also a test for him. Comparatively, his mental resilience was slightly weaker than the six juniors.

However, his experience was far greater than the six.

This experience didn’t necessarily mean with partial hepatectomy but rather his experience in the operating room. Even if there were minor errors while freeing the tissues, he could adjust in the subsequent steps.

Liu Banxia originally had a "package" planned for Wang Chao, but seeing him like this, he couldn’t introduce it.

It’s tailored teaching; the six juniors have been molded through constant trials, honing their resilience. Wang Chao was a bit behind in this regard, so he didn’t dare to offer any interference.

Those in the observation room watching Wang Chao’s surgery felt Liu Banxia’s prowess even more through the comparison.

It was completely different. Watching Wang Chao operate, everyone couldn’t help but feel tense. When watching Liu Banxia operate? They could just follow along and even chat casually.

"Hey, not bad. I must say, it’s beyond my expectations,"

said Liu Banxia after Wang Chao removed the gallbladder.

"Don’t tease me, I feel like I didn’t do as well as the other few," Wang Chao replied with a wry smile.

"You can’t see the whole picture, unlike me. As an observer, I see clearly," Liu Banxia said.

"You may not match Xu Yino in speed, but the quality was fine. She is a bit impulsive and needs more training."

"Actually, just focus, and follow the plan we discussed yesterday, and you’ll be fine. Although there were adhesions, they weren’t severe."

"The patient’s vitals are also as we expected. Next, it’s just about dissecting the first and second porta hepatis and transecting the liver parenchyma. There’s not much else to do. You’re not just trying to drag this out, are you?"

"No way, I want to finish and have some spicy fish," Wang Chao muttered.

"Oh come on, stop distracting me. I still need to dissect slowly. Doctor Wang, today’s surgery will surely take over five hours, don’t be in a rush,"

Wang Lei said with a laugh, "No worries, it’s nothing. And about the spicy fish? Add more peppercorns, my taste buds have been dull lately."

This was in sync with Liu Banxia with the aim to help Wang Chao relax.

Performing surgeries is supposed to be stressful. But if you’re too tense, it can affect your movements.

Though he won’t do surgery, he’s seen enough. He just didn’t know when to step in to stabilize Wang Chao’s confidence.

This highlighted Liu Banxia’s role; he was familiar with Wang Chao and understood his psyche well.

"Cui Jia, have you thought about what I mentioned?" Liu Banxia asked again.

Everyone was stunned, wondering what the big boss was up to. What if it distracted Wang Chao?

"Teacher Liu, didn’t you say I could think about it myself? I still have a lot of training to do, so no rush," Cui Jia replied quickly, a bit flustered.

"You, always stirring things up for me."

At that moment, Wang Chao chimed in.

"Cui Jia, don’t worry about him, he’s just teasing you. I’ve never heard of anyone being coerced. Just follow your heart when the time comes."

"Yeah, that’s what I was thinking," Cui Jia nodded.

"So now I’m the villain. Whoever pays for the spicy fish today, I must eat more," Liu Banxia said.

Then he went silent, simply watching from the side.

Initially, everyone didn’t understand, but now they realized he was trying to ease Wang Chao’s pressure.

Now dissecting the first porta hepatis, the operation went much smoother than before.

It’s hard to argue with this method. Logically, he was disrupting. Yet, it improved Wang Chao’s performance. How can you argue with that?

You have to admire it; with Liu Banxia in the operating room, he can control the whole situation.

Watching Wang Chao now gives a new feeling; somehow, just from a few exchanges between them, it seemed to give everyone confidence.
