Chapter 666: Chapter 354: Preparing to Kill Meng Qiewei

As the residual power dispersed, the mist retreated with it, and their field of vision suddenly opened up. Before them lay a calm sea and a distant island. The island featured a mountain range; though not particularly high, its peaks rolled on continuously, covered in a dense, dark green forest.

"Who goes there?" a cold voice rang out.

Jiang Man finally looked over to find three men hovering in mid-air, staring intently at his group. One was white-haired and elderly, while the other two appeared middle-aged. The old man stood in the center, flanked by the two middle-aged men. Their clothing was archaic, vastly different in style from what modern Cultivators wore.

"And who are you?" Shen Yao asked.

"Outsider Cultivators?" The old man stared at Shen Yao’s group, his face full of vigilance.

"We are from the Immortal Sect," Shen Yao declared haughtily. "Not just some random riffraff."

"The Immortal Sect?" The old man frowned. "The Immortal Court?"

Hearing this, Jiang Man was surprised. He hadn’t expected the other party to know about the Immortal Court. Was this place really that ancient?

Shen Yao was about to speak, but Jiang Man raised a hand to silence her. Though disgruntled, her lips twitching in silent protest, she swallowed her words when she recalled their first encounter. Even though she felt her Cultivation had vastly improved thanks to an abundance of resources, it was always better to be safe than sorry. If she couldn’t beat him, wouldn’t she end up working as his lackey again? Not only that, but she’d have to hand over Spiritual Sources while doing it. While she didn’t care about that meager amount of Spiritual Sources, the humiliation would be unbearable.

"Are you from the Immortal Court?" Jiang Man asked.

"Are you not from the Immortal Court?" the old man countered.

"If the Immortal Court you speak of is the ruler of this world, then yes, we are," Jiang Man replied. As for whether it was the new or old Immortal Court, the old man hadn’t specified, so Jiang Man naturally wouldn’t bring it up. He defaulted to the new one, of course. If they misunderstood, what did that have to do with him?

"Has the Immortal Court finally sent someone?" the old man asked, his voice trembling with excitement. He looked at Jiang Man and the others. "Do you have a token of proof?"

Jiang Man took out his token. "An Immortal Sect decree. See it clearly?" He put it away and continued, "Lead the way. Tell us about the situation here."

The old man looked bewildered and uncertain. His gaze lingered for a moment where the token had disappeared before he finally stepped aside and made an inviting gesture. "Immortals, please come in."

Shen Yao and the rest stared blankly, seemingly caught off guard by this turn of events.

It was only then that they learned the island was called Taichu Mountain, and its inhabitants were the Celestial Heart Race. They were supposed to possess unparalleled Talent and immense power. However, for committing a monstrous sin, the Immortal Court had handed down a punishment, stripping them of their Celestial Hearts and reducing them to mortals, ultimately condemning them to guard Taichu Mountain.

"Guard this mountain?" Chen Jinmu asked curiously. "What exactly are you guarding?"

"Do the Immortals not know?" the old man countered.

Hearing this, Chen Jinmu immediately covered his tracks, "Just confirming the situation."

Jiang Man, however, interjected, "Answer when you’re asked. There’s no need for extra words."

Shen Yao and the others looked at Jiang Man in astonishment. How could he be so aggressively righteous about it?

Yet, the old man simply nodded. "The Immortal is right. I spoke out of turn."

The three companions were left speechless. When they spoke politely, he questioned them. But when ordered to shut up, he didn’t dare refute?

Following this exchange, they ventured deeper into the island while continuing to gather information.

Meanwhile, at the Wuyun Sect.

Mr. Bai stood by a lake for a long time. The water’s surface was perfectly still, reflecting the clouds in the sky. He walked a lap around the shore, stopping every few steps to trace runes in the air with his fingers, laying down one hidden measure after another among the grass, trees, and stones by the lake.

Once he was mostly finished, he set about writing a letter. The envelope moved without wind, drifting up from his fingertips and floating leisurely toward the Inner Sect. It headed straight for where Ji Meng resided.

After that, Mr. Bai sat cross-legged on a bluestone by the lake, closed his eyes, and began to infer the secrets of heaven. This time, he was inferring Jiang Man’s destiny. He soon reached a conclusion and slowly opened his eyes.

He wondered, "He entered the mist. Is this the Wuyou Evil God’s doing? It seems he’s in deep trouble. If that’s the case, was it really not him? Then who on earth could it be?"

Mr. Bai didn’t dwell on it further and simply began to wait. He would wait for Ji Meng to show up for her doomed appointment in three days. Then, he would also be able to confirm exactly whose hands he was destined to die by.

Elsewhere, in Ji Meng’s courtyard.

The letter lay quietly on the table, its pages unfolded, the ink still wet.

Qing Dai stood by the table, her face ashen. "To think he could be so shameless," she said coldly. "Miss, we can choose not to go. He has definitely set traps over there. Since it’s his home turf, we’ll be at a disadvantage."

"Have you read the contents of the letter?" Ji Meng shot Qing Dai a curious glance.

"There’s no way he would actually make a move against Young Master Jiang. He’s just doing this to scare us," Qing Dai insisted.

The letter stated clearly that if Ji Meng didn’t show up, he would go after Jiang Man instead. He was using Jiang Man as a threat.

Ji Meng sat upright in her chair, poured herself a cup of water, and took a sip. Her expression remained entirely unruffled, as if she hardly cared about anything at all.

After a long while, she finally spoke in a soft voice. "He indeed won’t go, but... does that matter?"

Qing Dai froze for a moment before sudden realization dawned on her.

Her miss was going to kill the man simply because he had dared to utter those words.
