The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 633 - 342: Falsely Claiming the Reward Comes at a Price
Chapter 633: Chapter 342: Falsely Claiming the Reward Comes at a Price
Xiaopang did not answer Luo Xuan’s question. He was merely confused. He wondered what cowardice had to do with Miss Luo. Was she dropping a hint at him? Suggesting that he was lingering here shamelessly, amounting to nothing, and only capable of selling Spirit Medicine?
Luo Xuan did not force him to answer, either. She had just wanted to ask. Soon after, she began busying herself with work.
That afternoon, Cheng Yu arrived.
"Young Master Gao, did anything unpleasant happen today?" she asked with a smile.
Xiaopang thought for a moment. He felt that being jabbed at by Miss Luo earlier was indeed an unpleasant occurrence.
Cheng Yu then noticed Luo Xuan at the counter and looked slightly surprised. Bidding Xiaopang farewell, she walked over to the counter. "Miss Luo, it’s just as I thought. Your temperament is too soft. If you marry the wrong person, you’ll pay a heavy price."
Luo Xuan shook her head slightly. "Perhaps I really am not suited to carry such heavy expectations. My Second Uncle said I should have been able to pass the exam to enter the Sect, but I ended up failing. It was something he hadn’t anticipated."
Cheng Yu replied awkwardly, "Your judgment was lacking at the time, Miss Luo. You hung around a scheming woman like me, which is why you failed."
"That wasn’t the reason," Luo Xuan shook her head. "It was because our small courtyard produced two geniuses."
One was Jiang Man, and the other was Fang Yong. Neither of them was simple. Destiny was sometimes just like that. Blessings and disasters often went hand in hand. Who could clearly say which path was good and which was bad? This time was no different. Who could possibly know what lay behind a choice?
Pausing for a moment, Cheng Yu asked curiously, "In the end, how did you make your choice? What were your considerations?"
Luo Xuan fell silent for a while before answering, "A person rarely understands the beauty of youth while still young, nor do they realize it is beautiful while experiencing it.
"Therefore, when looking back on the past, a person’s life is filled with regrets."
Meanwhile.
Luo Lu received a letter. It was written by Luo Xuan.
"How foolish," Luo Lu muttered. Looking at the contents of the letter, she felt that Luo Xuan was being incredibly foolish.
Second Uncle would only take one person away to nurture. This spot had been internally secured for Luo Xuan. No one had any objections to this. The Luo Family had enjoyed peace for the past decade or so, and frankly speaking, it was all because Luo Xuan was to marry the Young Master of the Gao Family. This was her sacrifice. Therefore, it was only natural for her to be taken away for cultivation. She was young, had already reached Foundation Establishment, and possessed absolute qualifications.
Yet, she had refused. She gave this opportunity to Luo Lu. Towards this, Luo Lu only felt angry and regretful.
In the letter, Luo Xuan wrote that she didn’t know destiny would arrange things this way. Standing in the present and looking back ten years, she felt that the decision which had been so difficult to make back then actually wasn’t that terrible. Failing to become a Sect Disciple didn’t seem so despairing either. Conversely, it was her cousin, Luo Lu, who had struggled at every step, been burdened with sorrow, and stripped of her autonomy after entering the Outer Sect.
Perhaps the perceived beauty was nothing more than an obsession and regret over a path untaken. But in the face of such a great opportunity, no one could easily give it up. Therefore, she decided to leave the choice to a Spiritual Source. If it landed face up, she would head to the Lingyue Sect; if face down, she would stay.
Reading to the end, Luo Lu wanted to see if it had landed face down. However, the final line of the letter read: "I never tossed the Spiritual Source, but I have made my choice."
"Why?" Luo Lu still couldn’t understand it. Why would Luo Xuan make such a choice? Was it because of Young Master Gao? But she had already inquired about them; there was no romantic affection between the two. Not even a spark.
Logically, Luo Xuan had no reason to stay. But the fact remained that she did.
"If I reach Core Formation and enter the Inner Sect in the future, you’ll regret it when you see me," Luo Lu said, shaking her head.
Later.
"So you’ve already completed the missions?" After the lecture ended, Ji Meng looked at Jiang Man with some surprise.
"So much happened while we were at the Lingyue Sect. Although I didn’t receive the rewards for two missions, they still counted as two completed missions," Jiang Man said with a smile.
With this, he had fulfilled the condition of completing three missions in three years. Now, he just had to wait for his assessment score to reach eighty points. Once that happened, he could participate in the competition for the top three spots.
"Do you think the top three spots will be easy to fight for, Young Master Jiang?" Ji Meng asked.
"No, it won’t be easy," Jiang Man replied truthfully. "There are four formidable rivals for the top three spots. These individuals are extremely powerful, and all of them have received guidance from Mr. Ji and Mr. Tantai.
"Compared to before, their strength has only grown.
"Truthfully, the odds of winning aren’t high."
Hearing this, Qing Dai spoke up from the side. "Do you lack confidence, Young Master?"
She felt he could just wait for the next opportunity. The Young Master was still young; there was no need to rush.
However, Jiang Man shook his head and explained, "What I am best at is seizing the absolute smallest of probabilities."
Qing Dai was confused and wondered how he could possibly seize it. If the probability was so small, how could it be grasped? And he claimed to be *best* at it? Did the Young Master possess some unique ability?
"It is just my Talent," Jiang Man replied plainly.
Qing Dai felt a sense of déjà vu. Had he said something similar before? She decided not to press further. It was better to just wait for the results.
Ji Meng did not ask about it, either. Instead, she inquired about Xiaopang and Luo Xuan, curious about how things ended for them.
Jiang Man didn’t know. Logically, there should be a conclusion in the coming days. He figured he should take a trip outside to see how things were going.
Afterward, Jiang Man purchased fifteen Void-Invoking Autumn Yuan Pills from Ji Meng and returned to his residence to focus on his breakthrough.
Ten days later.
The Elixirs had been completely exhausted.
The Old Yellow Ox, who had been grazing in the courtyard, suddenly raised his brows. Power erupted from Jiang Man’s body, only to be swiftly and steadily retracted. Tengu, who was busy weeding, was caught in the shockwave of this power. He was sent flying backward.
Scrambling to his feet, he found that nothing around them had changed. His master was simply standing in front of Brother Niu, saying, "Xiaohuang, take a look and tell me what is different about me today compared to yesterday."
Tengu instinctively pondered the question, only to realize there was no difference at all.
