The End of the Immortal Path

Chapter 630: Mr. Yan Went Crazy from Cultivation?

  • Next Chapter

The last day of August.

Jiang Man had originally intended to visit Xiaopang and the others. After all, he needed to see what Luo Xuan had chosen to do. Her decision would directly impact Xiaopang’s current living situation. If his friend was living too comfortably, Jiang Man wouldn’t be able to sleep or eat in peace.

“Old Huang, do you think Luo Xuan leaving is a good or bad thing for Xiaopang?” Jiang Man asked.

“Doesn’t he want a harem of wives and concubines?” The Old Yellow Ox swished his tail. He continued munching on grass and added, “This Luo Xuan is stronger than him, and they are bound by a political marriage. Even though it hasn’t been finalized yet, she constantly overshadows him. Without this arranged marriage, wouldn’t he finally be free?”

“So it would be better for him if she stayed?” Jiang Man asked.

“With a beautiful young wife by his side, affection will naturally grow over time,” the Old Yellow Ox replied calmly, not even finished chewing the grass in his mouth. “You don’t see your wife very often—is it because you don’t like her?”

“I’m just afraid she won’t be able to resist eating beef,” Jiang Man replied. He quickly followed up, “So is it still better for her to leave? If she doesn’t, does that mean he’s successfully plucked the untouchable beauty?”

Back when Luo Xuan lived in the small courtyard, she possessed great beauty, an elegant temperament, a powerful background, and high Talent. Normally, she and Xiaopang would be worlds apart. Even though Xiaopang hadn’t officially won her over yet, they were constantly together. Xiaopang would occasionally complain about how miserable he was, but to Jiang Man, it always sounded like bragging.

“Aren’t you going to interfere?” the Old Yellow Ox asked.

“No,” Jiang Man shook his head. It was precisely because he didn’t plan on intervening that he hadn’t rushed over to ask. He would wait until the dust settled before seeking out Xiaopang and the others.

Furthermore, Song Qing had been stuck in Qi Refining for a long time. Jiang Man needed to secure him a qualification to advance. If he forgot and Song Qing’s lifespan ran out, it would be a disaster. Who else would run a shop and earn massive amounts of Spiritual Sources from Evil Gods for him?

Afterward, Jiang Man brought up the Bai Family Ancestor with the Old Yellow Ox.

“Old Huang, what do you think I need to do to increase my chances of winning?” Jiang Man asked.

Only after exchanging blows could one truly understand the sheer caliber of the people on that list. However, he was very curious about what the outcome would be if Old Huang faced off against the Bai Family Ancestor.

“I’ll say it again: none of them can kill me,” the Old Yellow Ox declared.

“Would it be difficult for Ting Fengyin to kill you?” Jiang Man asked.

The Old Yellow Ox looked at Jiang Man and continued munching on grass without answering.

Jiang Man understood the silent implication—it meant he could be killed, and probably rather quickly at that. It just made Jiang Man wonder: why didn’t Ting Fengyin kill those Great Evil Gods one by one?

“His condition probably isn’t very good, either,” the Old Yellow Ox noted.

Jiang Man couldn’t be certain; he hadn’t sensed anything amiss when they met. As for the Bai Family Ancestor, the Old Yellow Ox also provided an answer: Jiang Man needed to cultivate Mr. Ji’s methods for channeling and controlling power. The rest lay in comprehending the Gathering Strength technique that Ting Fengyin had left behind. This was his only hope.

Naturally, the Evil God’s Technique was also crucial, but he had to use this time to accumulate Evil God Power. The power he had absorbed came from two very weak Evil Gods. Their power was limited, and the rate of consumption far exceeded the rate of accumulation. If it ran out during a fight, the tide of the battle would instantly turn against him.

After that, Jiang Man focused on Cultivation.

His thoughts occasionally drifted to the Evil God with exceptional Array skills in the hall. He didn’t even know her name, nor was he sure what grudge she held against Ji Meng and the others. What exactly had she done to end up in such a state? Nine times out of ten, it was related to whatever happened over three hundred years ago.

Jiang Man had asked the Old Yellow Ox about it, but received no answers. The ox didn’t even recognize this particular Evil God. Jiang Man could only wait and see if the Ling Hua Immortal Spirit had any information. It would be best to know the full story, but even a general understanding of the situation would suffice.

That afternoon.

While Jiang Man was cultivating, a streak of colorful light flashed over the courtyard wall. The Seven-Colored Bird fluttered its wings and landed in the yard. This made Jiang Man a bit anxious. Had Miss Ji Meng suddenly remembered his debt of a hundred thousand Spiritual Sources?

He cautiously retrieved the items the bird had brought, finding a letter and a few pastries. A short sentence was written on the envelope: “Xiaoqing made too much.”

Jiang Man touched the pastries. They were warm. Hadn’t these just come out of the oven? So, to avoid wasting them, she had sent them straight to him?

“Old Huang, my wife is truly wonderful.” Jiang Man took a bite of a pastry and lifted his chin toward the grazing ox. “How is your wife?”

The Old Yellow Ox merely kept eating grass, acting just like any ordinary old yellow ox. He remained completely silent.

The Tengu caught the familiar scent and immediately trotted over. “Master, can I eat one?” the Tengu asked.

Jiang Man glanced at him, then pulled out the sour fruits he had received from Ting Fengyin. “Eat this instead. It has a rather unique flavor.”

As he spoke, he tossed one to the Old Yellow Ox as well. They would probably enjoy Ting Fengyin’s offerings. As for the food Miss Ji Meng had sent, that was meant for humans. Why would two beasts need to eat such a thing?

While eating, he casually reached out and patted them. Two lines of text immediately appeared in the Celestial Mirror Hundred Books:

[Beasts are unworthy.]

[Beasts are unworthy.]

It wasn’t that he considered Old Huang and the Tengu mere beasts. That was entirely the Celestial Mirror Hundred Books’ opinion.

September 1st. The third year in the Inner Sect.

Jiang Man did the math; he was thirty years old this year. Establishing the Immortal Ascension Dojo right now would be impossible. The absolute earliest he could do it would be the year after next. Next July, he would compete for the top three spots, then head to the Upper Courtyard for the grand competition. No matter how fast things went, that would take a few months. After that, he would proceed to the Supreme Heart Hall. It really would drag on until he was thirty-two. The nine-hundred-day time limit should expire around August of his thirty-second year. He had plenty of time.

Today was the first day of classes for his third year. Jiang Man got ready, planning to find Miss Ji Meng so they could head over together. But just as he reached the door, he saw Ji Meng and Qing Dai walking toward him.

“Young Master Jiang, the Miss was just passing by,” Qing Dai said.

Jiang Man looked at Ji Meng with a smile. “And I was just planning to pass by Miss Ji Meng’s residence.”

“Then you woke up too late, Young Master Jiang,” Ji Meng replied.

Jiang Man shook his head. “I didn’t sleep.”

Ji Meng asked curiously, “Does it really have absolutely no effect on you to go without sleep all the time?”
