The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 602 - 329: Wait for Me to Emerge from Seclusion
Standing on his flying sword, Jiang Man opened Ji Meng's reply.
She mentioned the Evil God who was highly skilled in Arrays. Because of his mastery, every Array he laid down might contain counter-Array Patterns. Any attempt to destroy or even study them could instantly alert him.
Her letter then brought up the topic of pulse diagnosis. She wrote that once they met up, he could help her take her pulse. Since diagnosing a pulse required medical knowledge, Ji Meng asked if he actually knew anything about medicine.
Jiang Man felt as though he was being forced to study medicine. However, medical skills couldn't cure his Unparalleled Celestial Pride Fate Chart. He could only spare some free time to learn casually, hoping to pick up a few tricks he might be able to use when the time came.
As they left the Sanhe Sect this time, Jiang Man kept a high alert on his surroundings, watching for anyone who might appear.
Take the Great Evil God behind the altar, for instance. If that entity showed up, Jiang Man planned to activate the Evil God's Technique and immediately call out Ting Fengyin's name. He just hoped Ting Fengyin's rank was high enough to handle it.
His biggest fear was encountering an enemy who was strong, yet just below the upper echelon of power—someone formidable enough to be a deadly threat, but not significant enough to summon Ting Fengyin.
Still, discovering the Evil God Ji Meng was looking for counted as a decent harvest. He wondered why she was searching for this specific Evil God and what made him so special. She hadn't explained, and he hadn't asked. Perhaps he could ask her once they actually found the person.
"The note mentioned that people from another Sect will be competing with us for the Cyan City Sect," Han Meixue said. "Will that be a big hassle?"
Jiang Man pondered for a moment. Without competition, it was always easier to win a target over. Once rivals entered the picture, the price they would have to pay would double. The dynamics of supply and demand had changed.
"I'm afraid the Evergreen Sect has come prepared," Zhuo Qingcheng remarked.
"It all depends on the Cultivation level of the people they sent," Han Meixue said.
If the opposition was at the Late Stage of Primordial Spirit, their group would hold a distinct advantage, as they had two Late Stage Primordial Spirit cultivators on their side. But if the rival was at Primordial Spirit Perfection, things would get difficult.
"Let's go take a look first," Jiang Man said.
He Que had remained completely silent throughout the journey. When Han Meixue asked him why he wasn't speaking, he simply replied that his only responsibility was to supervise and record.
Hearing this, Han Meixue immediately instructed, "Then make sure you record that Senior Brother Jiang reported a group of undercover Evil God worshipers and used a brilliant strategy to help the Sect capture the Evil God. And he did all of that in just a single day! What's more, he completed the handover within a month and put the Sanhe Sect back on the right track."
"That only happened after we called for backup," He Que replied earnestly. "I will record exactly who did what. Once my logs are reviewed, it will be clear at a glance who contributed and who did nothing."
Zhuo Qingcheng looked at him and retorted, "Then, Senior Brother, you must be absolutely sure to record what exactly you have been doing this whole time."
Jiang Man ignored their bickering. He didn't care about the records at all. He had already earned more than enough on this trip. The only regrettable part was that he had offended yet another Great Evil God.
Three days later.
They smoothly entered the territory of the Cyan City Sect. Conditions here were far better than those at the Sanhe Sect. The surrounding mountain range wasn't desolate in the slightest, and there were quite a few bustling villages scattered about. While the locals couldn't be called wealthy, they could at least make a decent living. There was likely some special resource sustaining the area, otherwise, it wouldn't have recovered so well. Still, it couldn't compare to the prosperity of the Lingyue Sect.
Upon entering the city, Jiang Man used the same information-gathering method as before. The guards' answers were quite ordinary. Although many residents had been warned not to cause trouble and to keep the streets clean, the general atmosphere remained largely the same as usual.
Additionally, the guards mentioned that Immortals had descended upon the city, and everyone was thrilled. The locals believed that their land would soon be blessed with the lingering grace of these Immortals.
"It seems there won't be any major merits to earn here," Jiang Man remarked with a sigh.
"What should we do now?" Zhuo Qingcheng asked.
"Since the people from the Evergreen Sect are already here, there's no need for us to investigate anything. Let's head straight to the Cyan City Sect," Jiang Man said.
Soon, Jiang Man and his group arrived at the main hall of the Cyan City Sect.
At the head of the hall stood a heavily built middle-aged man. He was a Body Cultivator whose Cultivation had reached Primordial Spirit Perfection. His Qi and Blood surged with vast, majestic power.
"He's very strong," Jiang Man silently marveled.
Beside this man stood three others of comparable strength: a middle-aged man carrying a sword on his back at the Late Stage of Primordial Spirit, a woman around forty years old at the Late Stage of Primordial Spirit, and a large, overweight man, also at the Late Stage of Primordial Spirit.
Their overall strength was astonishing. They were stronger than the Lingyue Sect by a large margin. Jiang Man wondered if, in a battle for control over a Sect, their opponents could even stand a chance against a lineup like this.
"Have you Upper Envoys also come for the expansion recruitment?" the leading middle-aged man asked. His tone was mild, lacking any deep reverence.
"Yes. The Wuyun Sect is expanding, and this area falls within our recruitment scope," Zhuo Qingcheng explained.
Hearing this, the middle-aged man nodded. "We are already aware of this matter. Naturally, we will cooperate with a major Sect's arrangements and actively respond to the recruitment.
"However, there is a problem. The great Evergreen Sect has also sent representatives for the exact same purpose.
"With two major Sects present, we find ourselves unsure of how to proceed. If possible, we naturally wish to align ourselves with the major Sect that offers the best terms."
"What terms did the Evergreen Sect offer you?" Zhuo Qingcheng asked.
"We dare not casually disclose that. We can only wait and see what conditions you Upper Envoys are willing to offer," the middle-aged man replied.
He paused for a moment before speaking again. "We have already arranged living quarters for you Upper Envoys. You may go and rest first.
"As long as it involves the recruitment expansion, our Sect harbors no ulterior motives; we simply wish to secure a good future. We will fully cooperate with everything else."
Jiang Man nodded and followed their directions to the arranged quarters.
Watching the four of them leave, the woman in the hall spoke up, "Two major Sects have arrived, yet neither seems particularly strong."
"Major Sects naturally look down on a minor Sect like ours. Sending just anyone is enough for them," the sword-bearing man said with a smile. "At least the great Evergreen Sect sent a cultivator at Primordial Spirit Perfection."
