The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 566 - 310: It’s Time for Temptation
Chapter 566: Chapter 310: It’s Time for Temptation
This forced them to start cultivating around the clock. Otherwise, let alone suppressing Jiang Man, it wouldn’t be long before they wouldn’t even be a match for the three from the Ji family. How could the weak have any right to suppress others?
However, while Jiang Man was on his mission, they had indeed sent someone to suppress him, but it seemed the other party had not made a move. Today, they even returned the Spiritual Sources. When asked for the reason, the answer they gave was that Jiang Man had told them he was at the Late Stage of Primordial Spirit, so they didn’t dare to attack, fearing they were no match for him.
An Outer Sect legend like Jiang Man not only progressed quickly in Cultivation, but was also a paragon of invincibility within the Same Tier. No one would be willing to attack him. The three Bai family members were certain that Jiang Man was at the Mid-stage, but they hadn’t expected him to casually claim he was at the Late Stage. And someone actually believed it. Thus, their suppression attempt fizzled out.
Fortunately, they weren’t relying on others anyway. This time, they had prepared thoroughly, ready to strike again. Afterward, they went back to cultivating.
Meanwhile, Qi Xi and Miao Yulin, who had been keeping a close eye on these people, felt a sense of inexplicable strangeness.
"What do you think they’re doing? Why the sudden love for Cultivation? The Ji family is cultivating, and so is the Bai family. Are they preparing for another big brawl?" Miao Yulin asked. Swinging her legs, she continued, "Speaking of which, Jiang Man’s mission is over. I’ve decided to change into a new outfit and see if he’ll take a second look. Then we’ll see how this Ji Meng reacts."
"You really aren’t afraid of causing trouble. Besides, didn’t you say you were going to seduce Ji An?" Qi Xi asked.
Miao Yulin shrugged. "I am seducing Ji An, but how can I do that without dressing up? Is it my fault if others look at me too? These prominent families are truly unreasonable."
Qi Xi rolled her eyes. "Do you really have to test their relationship?"
"I’m testing their strength and identity." Miao Yulin stood up, her fair skin seeming to glow. "Recently, Ji Meng and her group were attacked by people who weren’t from our courtyard. This means someone else has their eyes on them. Their identities pose a huge problem. Moreover, testing their relationship will confirm whether their marriage alliance is just a facade or the real deal. We’ll find out if it’s an alliance of interests or one built on affection."
Qi Xi shook her head and said, "I still feel it’s too dangerous. You know they’re a deadly vortex, yet you’re still throwing yourself into it."
Miao Yulin smiled faintly. "They sent us here despite knowing it’s a vortex. Doesn’t that clearly tell us that surviving won’t be easy?" With that, she grabbed Qi Xi’s hand. "Come on, go with me to buy a suitable Immortal Skirt."
Inside the Zhenyue Bureau’s prison.
Mu Kong sat in a room of the Void. Everything around him was absolute nothingness, yet this void was divided into many layers, imprisoning quite a few people. He wasn’t the only one. Right now, his power wasn’t just suppressed; it was locked away completely. It was as if this prison were a padlock, chaining him to this spot and rendering him entirely immobile. It could even slowly grind his existence away. His power wasn’t recovering; it was continuously plummeting.
This terrifying sensation filled him with dread. Had it not been for the piece of paper Zui Fusheng had given him, he would already be dead by now. Now, he only hoped that that great figure could get him out of here. Even if that were impossible, he hoped he could at least keep his life. An Evil God without any subordinates—once dead—would likely never have the chance to awaken again. He feared death. Yet, there was nothing he could do. He desperately wanted to reveal the Black Spirit Abyss’s true purpose, but he didn’t actually know it himself.
Just then, an old man in the adjacent cell looked toward Mu Kong. "You’re an Evil God, aren’t you? Who did you use to work for?"
The sudden voice caught Mu Kong by surprise. He turned his head to look at the person next to him, confirming that the other party was indeed human.
"I am the Messenger of an Abyssal Evil God. Because I possess some of an Evil God’s abilities, I was also imprisoned here. This place is grinding away my power and life. Perhaps I won’t live much longer, and you’re probably in the same boat," the old man said softly as he looked at Mu Kong.
Mu Kong really wanted to say that he could get out, but he knew the probability was practically zero. Thus, he instead asked, "Who does your master work for?"
"The Sun and Moon Immortal Emperor. What about you?" the old man asked.
Hearing this, Mu Kong’s pupils contracted. "I don’t have the mighty power your master has."
"No Evil God is truly weak. No matter how weak they are, they aren’t someone these Sect people can casually humiliate like this." The old man smiled. "It seems you’re from a similar place as the Evil God behind me."
"It’s far from it," Mu Kong murmured softly. He was indeed from a certain place, but his circumstances were completely different. That place required an Immortal Record, and without an Immortal Record, there was no way to legitimately improve one’s strength. He could only work under them, striving for the day he might obtain an Immortal Record, and they had promised him as much.
But day after day, year after year, they always told him that he would definitely be included the next time. Yet, every single time, someone would suddenly appear out of nowhere and snatch the quota for the Immortal Record. He had no choice but to continue working for them, until one day, someone made a mistake. They told him that as long as he took the fall for this mistake, they would arrange an Immortal Record for him afterward. He agreed. In the end, because of this mistake, he was exiled, suppressed, and stripped of a significant portion of his power.
Years later, when he sought them out again, he was told that his strength was lacking and he didn’t meet the requirements to be issued an Immortal Record. Then they told him to keep improving. He worked while enhancing his strength. When his strength was finally sufficient, he was informed that the quota previously reserved for him was gone because he had improved too slowly. Once again, they told him to work hard, promising to give him one if the opportunity arose. It was a never-ending cycle.
Until that day, he heard that the environment was deteriorating and that being without an Immortal Record would become unbearable. He went to them, hoping they would save one for him this time. He hoped they would give him a chance, seeing how hard he had worked.
They rejected him, spitting out ugly words. They asked what right he had to demand anything. They called him a lowborn nobody, claiming they would rather give it to a dog than to him. If he didn’t have some exploitable value, he wouldn’t even be allowed in their presence.
He was furious. He wanted to strike back, but he knew he was no match for them. Just when he fell into despair, he suddenly heard a single sentence: "Everyone, just listen to Ting Fengyin."
On that day, he saw the Immortal Emperor in panic, Immortal Monarchs in dread, Immortals dying in droves, and the Immortal Court collapsing. The power swept past him, and from then on, everything turned to darkness. Only later did he learn about the establishment of a new order and some of its rules.
"How long do you think the great reign of the Immortal Sects can last?" the old man suddenly asked.
Mu Kong did not answer.
"It’s said that there are Evil Gods who work for the Immortal Sects, but they all end up with only one fate: death." The old man looked at Mu Kong. "It seems you won’t escape death either, but you can choose not to work for the Immortal Sects. The words of the Immortal Sects are the least trustworthy. The Immortal Sects and Evil Gods are fundamentally different. Don’t harbor any illusions."
Mu Kong nodded to show he understood. Naturally, he knew this as well. The Immortal Sects existed to kill Evil Gods, so naturally, they wouldn’t let him off.
Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly felt a summons. Not only that, but his Heart Spirit felt as though it were being torn apart. Before he could even utter a sound, he felt the tearing reach its absolute limit. The next instant, he spiraled uncontrollably into a state of dizziness.
When he came to his senses, he found himself inside an Array he couldn’t see through. Countless forces around him were binding his Divine Thought. Those profound forces, wrapping him First Layer by First Layer, made it nearly impossible for him to struggle.
Immediately after, a glowing figure slowly approached. The figure finally landed in front of him, lowered his eyes, and said softly, "It seems it was a success." Then, with a smile in his voice, he added, "Mu Kong, we meet again."
Mu Kong looked up at the person before him. He couldn’t see through him or perceive his presence, yet the gentle light radiating from him was dazzling. Zui Fusheng.
"Senior?" Mu Kong didn’t understand what had happened.
"Absolute freedom is definitely out of the question, but I can allow this wisp of your avatar to walk the outside world." Jiang Man’s voice was flat, devoid of much emotion. "But as a price, you need to work for me. How about it?"
"Work for you?" Mu Kong asked, looking at Jiang Man.
Jiang Man nodded.
For a moment, Mu Kong recalled the old man’s words, the Immortal Sects’ attitude toward Evil Gods, and the bullying he had suffered in the past. After a brief hesitation, Mu Kong asked, "If I do a good job, can I live?"
"I will fight for it on your behalf," Jiang Man said.
Mu Kong lowered his head. He had heard these kinds of words many times before. So many times that he couldn’t even keep count. "I’ll fight for you." "I have high hopes for you." "You’ll definitely be next." "As long as you take the fall for this mistake, you’ll be well rewarded." And so on. He was sick of hearing them.
But in the end, he kept his head bowed and said, "I am willing."
Perhaps? Perhaps this time, someone really would fight for him?
