Chapter 563: Chapter 309: Ji Meng: He Said I Am His Wife?

Jiang Man appeared on a small hillside within the Inner Sect. It was the counterpart to the Outer Sect’s entry point. Usually, disciples were teleported here upon completing their missions, though some simply returned to the exact spot they had departed from.

Xie Zhixu and the others looked at Jiang Man, hesitating to speak. Jiang Man knew exactly what they wanted to ask, but he remained silent.

Finally, Xia Jian broke the silence. "Junior Brother, what does your Token look like?" she asked.

Jiang Man offered a mysterious smile. "Perhaps just slightly better than yours." With that, he took his leave.

Sometimes, an ambiguous answer was the true hallmark of a prodigy.

The three of them stood in silence for a moment, feeling immensely uncomfortable. It seemed that ever since they had first asked about his Cultivation, they had never learned a single concrete fact about Jiang Man. They couldn’t tell truth from falsehood, leaving them with a lingering sense of powerlessness.

Ultimately, they decided to head back and make some inquiries to see exactly what merits he had achieved. That way, they could at least make a rough guess.

Jiang Man, however, did not care. He wasn’t worried about his achievements being known; it wasn’t as if his true identity would be exposed.

As he approached the edge of the plaza, a gust of wind carried the crisp sound of a Silver Bell from straight ahead. He strode forward and sure enough, saw a young woman sitting on a rock, swinging her legs as if waiting for something.

Stepping up to her, Jiang Man asked, "Was Miss Ji Meng waiting for me?"

Hearing this, Ji Meng raised an eyebrow and looked at him with a smile. "Are you that certain, Young Master Jiang?"

"Shall I treat Miss Ji Meng to some flatbread?" Jiang Man immediately offered.

Her feet landed softly on the ground, a radiant smile blooming on her face. "Sure."

Afterward, Jiang Man used Sword Control to fly them toward the Outer Sect.

Mid-flight, Ji Meng asked curiously, "Do you want me to buy it for you again this time?"

Jiang Man nodded. "Yes. Peak Master Bai is still targeting me. The pressure in the Outer Sect has mostly dissipated by now, but if I were to show up, their business would probably suffer even more." Furthermore, he was worried that those people might get arrested again. He was still counting on Song Qing to receive the million Spiritual Sources. ℯℯ𝑙.

Jiang Man then asked when the annual assessment would take place. He needed to check how many points he had accumulated.

"It’s already over," Ji Meng answered with a smile.

Jiang Man was stunned. "Isn’t it only August?"

"Yes, the assessment was held in July. However, Young Master Jiang is still in twelfth place," she replied cheerfully.

Twelfth place? Didn’t that mean he was dead last among the Primordial Spirit stage? Now that he was at the Middle Stage of Primordial Spirit, if he had participated, Qing Dai might have ended up at the bottom instead.

"Can I take a makeup test?" Jiang Man asked.

Ji Meng shook her head. "Probably not. The rankings are already out."

Jiang Man felt a wave of helplessness, but he found some consolation in the fact that his rank hadn’t dropped either.

Soon enough, the two arrived at the Outer Sect.

"The person who ambushed Xiaoqing and me before is right here in the Outer Sect," Ji Meng said, bending over to pat the slight wrinkles out of her Immortal Skirt.

"Isn’t that dangerous?" Jiang Man asked.

"Not at all. Xiaoqing sought him out and fought him," Ji Meng said, falling into step beside him.

"Who won?" Jiang Man asked immediately. Since they had already clashed, he wondered about the specific outcome and if anyone had been hurt.

"The Sect noticed them shortly after they started, and both of them were almost caught," Ji Meng said with a laugh. "When Xiaoqing went a second time, she found that the guard on watch had gone from the Early Stage of Returning Void to Returning Void Perfection. She didn’t dare attack again after that."

Jiang Man was somewhat surprised. To think the only reason these people refrained from taking action was because of the Sect’s rules. Fights were permitted in the Inner Sect, but causing a massive commotion in the Outer Sect would earn them a trip to the Law Enforcement Hall. Making an enemy of the Sect wouldn’t end well for either side.

Did they truly believe they could just march out and cause chaos in the Immortal Sect’s territory? There was a high probability they would be deported. The Immortal Sect would jump at the chance to punish them severely.

However, this also made it much harder for Jiang Man to make his move. Fortunately, he was in no rush. His Cultivation was still too weak; he needed to wait for a better opportunity.

The two proceeded on foot, heading toward Cloud Mist Peak, where the flatbread shop was located.

Before long, the deserted shop came into view. At a single glance, Jiang Man noticed a change. "When did they start selling soy milk?"

"Is that unusual?" Ji Meng asked.

"Yes, it means they’re actually getting business. I just don’t know who would be bold enough to buy from them," Jiang Man noted.

Yet, he didn’t dwell on it. There were quite a few people with powerful backgrounds in the Outer Sect, and some naturally didn’t fear being targeted. As time passed, many would simply forget about the incident altogether. The influx of new disciples entering the Sect year after year would be completely clueless. Buried beneath the sheer volume of fresh arrivals, this sort of targeted pressure would gradually fade away. Time would usher in the new and sweep away the old. Even a legend like him wouldn’t be remembered in the Outer Sect for too long.

"I’ll go over and ask. Will you be coming with me, Young Master Jiang?" Ji Meng asked.

Jiang Man shook his head. He shouldn’t add to their troubles. Since their situation was finally improving, he certainly couldn’t drag them back into a difficult spot. Unless Peak Master Bai’s targeting ceased completely, or unless he gained the power to suppress that pressure himself, he had to keep his distance. Currently, he lacked that strength, and he still had to deal with the Bai Family Ancestor. He couldn’t afford any distractions.

Ji Meng walked up to the shop’s entrance and called out softly, "Is anyone here?"

"Coming!" Song Qing immediately stepped out from the back.

The moment he laid eyes on Ji Meng, he froze, a profound sense of terror welling up in his heart. Forcefully suppressing it, he called out with a trembling voice, "Y-Young Master!"

"What is it? I’m helping out in the kitchen, I can’t come out right now!" Xiaopang’s voice echoed from within.

"Y-Young Master, come out here!" Song Qing urged immediately.

Only then did Xiaopang cautiously peek out from the back. He had been about to scold Song Qing, but his eyes instantly locked onto Ji Meng standing outside.

Instantly, his mind went entirely blank, as if struck by lightning. He nearly dropped to his knees.

"I’d like to buy some flatbread," Ji Meng said.

Hearing this, Xiaopang nodded frantically. "Please wait just a moment! We have a fresh batch right out of the oven!"
