Chapter 268: Effortlessly

  • Next Chapter

The next day arrived pretty quickly, but if I was being honest, it was one of the best nights I’d ever had.

I swept my legs off the bed and headed for the bathroom. After freshening up, I switched into new clothes before making my way downstairs.

Today was the last day of the convergence, the day when the champion would finally be chosen. I had no doubt I would be the champion of course, that goes without saying.

I became quite the center of attention partly because I was one of the finalists, and partly because I had managed to pull one over everyone’s eyes throughout the entire convergence.

Soon, I sighted my friends and didn’t waste time walking over.

“Morning, bro.” Dion yawned. He looked like he hadn’t catch a wink of sleep in days.

“What’s up with him?” I whispered to Aric who only shrugged, showing he knew nothing about it.

“Whatever, let’s head for the teleportation hall.” I muttered, and the three of us made a beeline there, though we met up with the others, Rose, Sia and Delilah.

Not to mention other ex participants, and my opponent for the day. We exchanged a glance, before the both of us looked away.

After all the ex participants reached including myself and Kaal reached the massive white building, the hall flashed white, teleporting us to the floating platform.

“LADIES, AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE FINAL ROUND OF THIS TOURNAMENT…” The proctor began after we all took our seats. “…AND OF THE ENTIRE CONVERGENCE ITSELF! THIS IS THE MATCH THAT WOULD DETERMINE WHICH RACE WOULD BE VICTORIOUS, WOULD IT BE THE HUMAN RACE, OR THE DEMON RACE, ONLY TIME WILL TELL!”

“WITHOUT WASTING ANY OF OUR TIME, I WILL HEREBY CALL THE TWO STARS OF THE DAY! FIRST WE HAVE, THE DEMON PRINCE, AND THE MONARCH OF BLOOD, KAAL VON SANGUINE!!!!”

“AND AGAINST HIM IS NONE OTHER THAN THE YOUNG MAN WHO HAD MANAGED TO REMAIN AN IMPOSTER UNDER ALL OF OUR NOSES, THE MASTER OF DUPLICATION, DAMON DARKFELL!”

The titles he used to call me were kind of cringe, especially the master of duplication stuff, but beggars can’t be choosers.

“Go beat him up, bro!” Dion who looked like he had regained his former animated self exclaimed.

Aric also patted me in the shoulder as I stood up. I took a. glance at Sia who nodded in acknowledgement, and then Rose, who said something I had never expected to come from her.

“Good luck… brother.”

“…” I was speechless for a little while, before I regained my composure. “It sounds nice coming from you, Sister.”

One moment, the white light fell towards me from the sky, and the next moment, I found myself on the ground, standing a few meters away from Kaal, with the floating platform floating around fifteen thousand feet above us.

“I was actually quite surprised when I learned of your true identity, but one thing still remains the same.” Kaal said. “You’re standing in my way.” His blood red spear appeared in his outstretched hand.

“Is that so?” I tilted my head. “I’m quite sorry to say that I don’t feel the same.” I replied. “As far as I’m concerned, there is nothing in my way to the championship.”

“Typical human arrogance.”Kaal shook his head in slight disappointment. “Can’t say I didn’t expect that.”

“IT SEEMS THE TWO COMBATANTS HAVE A LOT OF WORDS TO SAY, BUT WHO WANTS TO HEAR A BUNCH OF WORDS?! I HEREBY DECLARE THIS MATCH TO BEGIN!!!”

Kaal exploded towards me, the ground tearing like tissue paper behind him. But I wasn’t particularly bothered, his current speed was a fraction of what I could perceive Sia do after she used her temporal field on me.

A reflection appeared behind me and merged into my body. My aura shot into the skies as I leaned to the side completely avoiding the spear that threatened to poke a hole through my head.

Almost nonchalantly, I raised my hand and hit the spear aside, almost sending it flying out of Kaal’s grasp.

Massive lashes of blood suddenly whipped towards me like sentient whips, but I didn’t even raise a finger. Every single one passed through me while I vanished and reappeared behind Kaal.

A massive river of blood exploded from his back with a powerful force, but once again like before, it passed through me.

I disappeared again, and was back to where I was. “What do you make of this first clash?” I asked, my voice dripping of taunt.

If Kaal fell for it, he didn’t show, instead, his eyes narrowed, probably brainstorming ways he could get me which sadly for him, there wasn’t.

Kaal’s aura exploded as took a stance, an armor made of crystallized blood appeared on his body, drastically increasing his strength. He probably didn’t want to waste aether on huge or long ranged attacks knowing I could easily evade them.

A human shaped void appeared where Kaal occupied but the young demon was already behind me, his spear piercing towards the left side of my chest from behind.

However, his spear punched through nothing but air creating a deafening shockwave as I disappeared from his scope and stood calmly behind him.

“Nice attack.” I whispered next to his ear.

Kaal’s reaction was instantaneous, his spear revolved in his hand and pierced towards my face, but I calmly reached out and held it firmly in my hand.

Kaal didn’t stop there, taking advantage of the fact that I was holding the spear, he used that to spin himself into the air, kicking towards my head and forcing me to slip into the mirror dimension.

Kaal then retrieved his spear and created some distance between us.

While it might have looked like I was effortlessly suppressing Kaal, it wasn’t quite the case. I was using the same amount of power I had used to defeat Sia against him after all.

Hence the reason it looked like he couldn’t do anything, even if he technically couldn’t. I had no intention of dragging this fight longer than it should be by increasing my strength slowly overtime.

Even with the distance between us, my fist suddenly appeared before Kaal’s face without any warning. Kaal’s eyes widened, as he instantly crossed his arms before his face.

But the impact he was expecting never arrived because I appeared behind him, and connected a brutal punch to the base of his spine.

Kaal’s back arched if only for a moment, before his body shot forward at unimaginable speeds. His body crashed through multiple objects, trees, small hills, and everything on between before he managed to come to a stop.

I covered the distance almost instantly, stopping a few meters away from him. I then walked slowly towards him as he got back on his feet.

“Are you mocking me?” He asked, his eyes filled with anger.

“If it looks like I’m moving you, then yes, I am.” I nodded. “I’d advice you to give up and forfeit the match, there is no chance that you come out on top.”

“You sound extremely confident, but I haven’t even used my full power yet.” He muttered as his clothes began flailing wildly. A blood red aura of unimaginable proportions burst out of his body, cracking the surrounding ground in a spiderweb pattern.

The air itself tore apart as he stepped towards me. ‘Hmmm, faster than before, but still slower than Sia.’ I silently mused as I watched him approach.

Technically, he was faster than Sia was on a physical basis, but once her abilities came into action, she would butcher him apart.

I tilted my entire body to the side as Kaal’s spear passed an inch away from my skin, before I sped forward and clasped onto his shoulder, before landing a devastating punch to his guts.

The demon prince folded almost immediately, but to his credit, didn’t get knocked out like I thought he would.

The blood he spurt out instantly shaped themselves into bullets, before drilling towards me at point blank.

However, they were a tad bit too slow. I took a few steps back as each bullet phased through my body, and I quickly punished Kaal for that attempt. I punched at him his chest, this time launching him backwards.

I flickered after him, catching hold of his horns mid air, and dragged his face along the side of a mountain, before he managed to make me let go using a violent explosion of blood.

I leapt backwards, this time voluntarily creating space between us, but I was soon followed by countless spear shaped projectiles.

“Sigh.” I sighed almost in disappointment. When would people realize that long ranged attacks simply won’t work on me?

I blurred through the projectiles and sped forwards, reaching Kaal in what felt like an instant. My leg snapped up to his chest, but he once again crossed his hands before his chest, and much like before, this was also a feint.

My heel crashed into the side of his head like a battering ram. His head snapped to the side, before his body involuntarily followed.

Silence stretched across the battlefield as Kaal lost consciousness, but I still waited for the confirmation.

“DAMON DARKFELL WINS!!” A much less enthusiastic voice came from the proctor.
