The dragon's harem
Chapter 2269: Eris’s Angels
The abominations were already approaching from the depths of the dark outer void. Hordes in the billions, with their weakest members powerful enough to blast a whole building to pieces.
Amaterasu’s angels looked up, and from them, an archon frowned as she flew up, spreading her six wings wide. "They aren’t rushing in; they probably know we’ll just massacre them."
Beside the archon, one of Eris’s angels looked up. "Their goal isn’t to attack blindly. From what Yog said, they are here to attack the recruit platform." She looked back toward the crust of the universe and could see a massive golden platform.
That golden platform was one of the many teleportation platforms that the gods use to teleport adult void dragons out of the universe so they could join the war. Unlike Arad, who mastered Vorvadoss’s space magic and could easily hop in and out of the universe, the other void dragons can’t teleport that far.
"They might wait until one of the void dragons arrives, or they might decide to attack the circle early to prevent any dragon from coming. We can’t just let them do that." The archon flew up and lifted her fist. "Our goal is to protect the teleportation platform until all 57 void dragons are out."
Eris’s angel smiled. "Then we can either attack first and eradicate them, or wait for them to attack and defend. The first approach sounds better to me." She then looked down. "But I guess that would also be risky." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Even if Lady Sena could tell that there is an avatar hiding among the abomination forces, we can’t know exactly where it is or which abomination it is hiding as. If our attack isn’t potent enough to wipe them all, there is a good chance the avatar would slip past us and damage the platform." The archon looked down at the angel and smiled. "But I guess you already know that. I can tell just by looking at your face. Angel of War."
Most of Eris’s angels once belonged to the God of War, Fighting, and Violence, Alexander the Great, and they were no strangers to the battlefield of the outer void. In fact, the archon was almost certain that the angel had seen far greater horrors than she had, since the former god of war was known for being a reckless maniac who never allowed his soldiers to rest.
"Now, I’m an angel of Murder, Blood, and everlasting Purple sun." She smiled, and her eyes burned bright purple with red irises. But deep in those eyes, the archon could spot something stranger: a deep darkness, an endless void that stretched for all eternity, glaring right back at her.
"You..." The archon froze for a second, then shifted her gaze back up, ignoring the strange feeling that she was getting from all of Eris’s angels. It was as if their link to Eris was fake; they felt to the archons more like how angels feel when drawing power from a fellow archon instead of directly from their god.
"Warning! A small battalion of abominations is rushing in; intercept at all costs!" Yog’s voice boomed in everyone’s head, and in the blink of an eye, all of the angels and archons moved like a swarm of enraged wasps.
Amaterasu’s archon and the angels who followed her cut their way through the swarm of abominations with ease, burning every horrid creature that dared to get in their way like a tank shell through the air. Not that many abominations could directly face an archon, and those who could are few and far between. Even if such an abomination showed up, it would only take a fraction of a second for tens of archons from Amaterasu’s main army to jump them.
But as Amaterasu’s angels were doing great, so were Eris’s angels, fighting their way through the swarm of abominations with relative ease, as none of the abominations were that powerful.
What gave Eris’s angels the advantage was their stupidly high regeneration, bloodlust, and martial skills. They were aggressive, regenerated in a fraction of a second thanks to their goddess’s divine and vampiric blood, and their willpower and morals were far above everyone else’s as they had seen far worse battlefields in the past.
"The one who slays the most gets to train with Lord Arad! Move it!" One of Eris’s angels shouted, and the rest cheered.
From the command tent, Eris watched from afar with everyone else, and she smiled. "They are doing well, better than I expected by a lot." She saw one of her angels cleave the head of a serpentine abomination with ease, and immediately chain into a second attack that tore two more abominations.
Goddess Hecate gulped. "Lord Arad, once more." She looked toward everyone else and then took a deep breath before asking. "Your angels love to train with him?"
Eris smiled. "They were angels of fighting before, so they really love a difficult fight, and Arad gives them a good fight. In fact, he is as merciless as they come in training. Better cry in training than in a life-or-death situation."
"The angels of war cry?" Hecate tilted her head, and Luminous laughed. "I saw those angels fight him, and they didn’t cry; they moaned with each hit. They are crazy." She smiled. "But that’s why I like them. Look, those abominations won’t stand a chance."
Linda watched in silence for a second, and then spoke. "They are martial masters; they understand warfare, so their formations are perfect, and on top of it all, they are violent, and they thrive in bloodshed thanks to Eris’s portfolio. It is as if they were born to be the perfect soldiers."
"That may be true..." Eris frowned. "But they won’t be able to handle any abomination above tier 10, or an avatar. They’d better retreat when needed."
Goddess Hecate shook her head. "There should be no Avatar in this fight. My predictions might be far less accurate here outside the universe, but I can still give a decent guess. I’m 9/10 sure no Avatar would show up in this skirmish."
Linda agreed. "I can’t see a future where we lose this small battle. I guess both sides are just poking at each other to get a feeling for the coming battle."
"This is more common than you expect. Once both sides get enough information, the real battle will start. For now, Nyar won’t risk sending his Avatar and having it obliterated." She smiled. "Especially with Kayden sitting outside. Nyar had rarely managed to deceive that man’s eyes."
"Lord Kayden, the God Slayer." Hecate closed her eyes. "I’ve seen him fend an Avatar on his own before, and it was a battle that not even the stronger gods dare join."
Minutes later, the battle ended in the angels’ victory, and Eris smiled. "We won, but... their formations could use a bit of work. They fight well, but they aren’t working with Amaterasu’s angels."
