Chapter 1765: The Cat and The Cockroach
Chapter 1765: The Cat and The Cockroach
Leon’s father gasped, taking a step back as he held his spear above his head. “A giant? No, it’s wearing human clothes.” He couldn’t believe his eyes; the man standing in front of him was without a doubt a human. But how could a man grow to such size, how could he stand or move, let alone function like a normal being?
He didn’t have time to ponder, since Arad’s arm came crashing down just a second after, and luckily, he had his spear already in a prime position to block. But he wasn’t a fool; the hit would be heavy, so he had to deflect it to the side to protect his back and arms.
As a Master, he already had more lifeforce than normal people and could live for longer, but he was nowhere near achieving immortality, and by now, he was already getting old enough to feel back pain.
Arad indeed wasn’t going to use his full power; he wasn’t even going to use a fraction of it, limiting himself to as close to a human as he could. He was still powerful, but not enough to flatten the man into a pancake.
Arad’s arm clashed with the spear’s shaft, and Leon’s father angled his block to deflect the attack. To his surprise, Arad’s arms didn’t get deflected. This one thing made Leon’s father realize that he wasn’t facing a random fool from the forest, but one who actually fought to the death before.
^Bastard! He knew I would deflect his attack, so he changed the angle at the last moment!^ He could feel the weight of the hit crashing into his spine. He had to yield and jump away before he gets crushed.
Arad wasn’t just massive; he also weighed as much as a truck.
But at that moment, a flash of fire sparked behind his back, and a blade rang with golden flames. Leon’s father’s eyes turned to look, and Arad only lifted an eyebrow with a faint smile.
Noah had seen his sister getting smacked, and he came to help in the fight. Unlike everyone else who froze the moment the aura of Leon’s father washed over them, Noah knew no fear nor sense. Drenched in the blood of his enemies and illuminated by his flames, Noah’s sword roared into a blinding flash, aiming right at the back of Leon’s father.
With Noah attacking him as well, Leon’s father had to jump away and yield. They had caught him off guard, and he had to recollect himself. As he landed far away, Noah stood in front of Arad and kept his blade pointed at Leon’s father.
Noah looked at his sword, finding that there was no blood or ash on it. He had missed. Somehow, that slippery bastard got away. It just goes to show how vast the power gap between him and a Master is.
“With that size, you’re Tina’s husband. Get away, even with your strength, you can’t defeat a cultivator while being mundane. And this is a Master as well.” He pointed at his sister, “But take her with you. I’ll hold him back.”
Arad looked at Noah with a smile. “You speak as if you can win.” He lifted his foot and kicked a stone that was nearby. It was more like a massive boulder considering Arad’s size. The move came as a surprise to everyone.
From Arad’s side, it was intentional. He wanted to show Noah that to hit an opponent who was stronger and faster than him, he had to be creative and always make his move unpredictable and surprising.
But a mundane stone can never injure a Master, and Leon’s father was fast enough to react even when caught off guard. He swung his spear down and shattered the boulder, only to find Arad rushing at him.
The stone itself was just a distraction.
It was strange, bizarre, and horrifying. When Arad moved, he had one foot still beside Noah, and the other was already more than two meters away beside Leon’s father. His leg span wasn’t the only insane part, but the fact that he had the balls to stretch a punch from as far back as he could in front of a Master. Such an obvious attack would lead to instant death, but Arad didn’t look that worried.
He had a plan.
Leon’s father didn’t hesitate or flinch. Calmly, he pointed the tip of his spear forward, charged it with enough power to make an elephant explode, and set it in the path of Arad’s fist. One move and this fight will end, the way it should have been.
A human, no matter how powerful, large, or blessed cannot match up to a cultivator.
But Arad’s fist never fired into a punch; instead, his other hand moved from below, and Leon’s father immediately knew he fell for a feint. Arad wasn’t aiming at him with a punch; he was aiming a low uppercut at his jewels. With such a massive fist, his entire hip would shatter, let alone his poor almonds.
When faced with a stronger opponent, always go for the nuts, eyes, or throat. Leon’s father should’ve expected such a move.
But it was fine; this is the reason the spear is a great weapon. Leon’s father just diverged the back end of his spear downward to deflect Arad’s attack. Arad might’ve been smart, or had a little experience in combat, but he was no match…
The lower uppercut never came either; instead, Arad crashed onto Leon’s father, hitting him like a racing truck. How did it happen? Leon’s father had no idea, but all he knew was that he was now rolling on the ground, feeling as if his intestines were torn apart.
Three faints in a row, followed by a strange attack that fully utilized Arad’s size and weight advantage.
Arad was standing in his place, and Noah just realized what happened. The entire exchange happened in a second, and he could barely see the two move. Leon’s father was one thing, but how could Arad move with such speed, grace, and agility, even with his size and weight?
He stole a glance back at Tina, as if asking in what cave she had found this giant holed up in?
Leon’s father coughed as the wind was knocked out of him, and Arad looked at him with a smile. Let’s father could understand one thing about that grin. Arad wasn’t afraid of death, and this fight didn’t seem to worry him at all.
“I suspected this at first, but now I know your problem.” Arad pointed a hand toward Leon’s father. “Old man, you lack respect. With your power, those people here might as well be children, yet you dared interfere in their squabble. Even about saving your son. You could’ve taken him and left. Let the brat learn a lesson and grow.”
Leon’s father growled. “What are you babbling about?” He really didn’t care about what Arad was talking about, nor did he listen. All he wanted was to buy a few seconds now and let Arad run his mouth. He needed the time to figure out how to win with ease, establish his dominance, and make sure those kids don’t see him as a fool.
“An elder who doesn’t respect the young, then gets mad when the young don’t respect him, is nothing but a fool. Take your son, his goons, and leave. It is his loss, and you must accept it.” Arad stood there and soon turned to Noah. “This fight has ended, your side won that pebble.”
Calling that precious piece of jade a pebble looked out of place. But it was just what Arad wanted them to understand. He didn’t come here for their prize.
Leon’s father in the back smiled. “Huh, and who are you to decide?” He lifted his hand, and with all of his might, he hurled his spear, not toward Arad, but toward Tina. He already knew about her; she was a weird one who was so weak it was laughable, yet she still kept trying. But what drew his attention more was that some higher-ups were afraid of her husband, who was supposed to be a giant.
All Leon’s father could conclude from that is that Arad, Tina’s husband, might have some dirt on the higher-ups. Considering how much the noble and ruling families here want to preserve and strengthen their bloodline, they won’t let such a specimen go untapped.
He might’ve even married that talentless piece of trash to make sure the power balance won’t break a few years ahead.
Arad’s power wasn’t what they feared, but his words. He had learned of their secrets, so they couldn’t risk him spilling the beans to the public. But Leon’s father had no such secrets to hide. He was already exiled, and so, he’ll kill Tina, take her husband away, and syphon all of those secrets.
He’ll get his win, expose the elders, and take their place.
But in that moment, something strange happened. A shockwave boomed through the air, and blood splashed across the ground. Leon’s father stood still, his eyes wide open, and his pupils dilated as his face twisted and paled. He looked at his missing arm. When did it happen? He couldn’t see it.
His spear missed the target by a huge margin, and Arad stood in place, holding a wooden hatchet that he might’ve pulled out of his ass. “You… don’t seem to understand.” Arad took a step forward and lifted his hatchet, as if ready to swing down.
He slowly turned and looked at Arad like a cockroach that had suddenly found itself face to face with a cat. He was a Master, and even the Elders couldn’t be too fast for him to see. They would look like a blur to him, but he is still seeing something.
“I wasn’t giving you an option. I said to take your son, his goons, and scram. But you seem to be itching for a fight.” Arad rested the hatchet on his shoulder and then looked back at Noah and Peara.
“Sorry for getting in the way. You can keep killing each other.” With that, he started walking away. For a moment, it looked like Arad was giving up, but on a closer look, that wasn’t the case. Leon’s father had lost an arm, was bleeding out, and he was quite shaken. As long as they make sure he doesn’t get his spear back, Peara and Noah can take him down if they work together.
When Peara and Noah realized that, their focus quickly shifted to finding where the spear had flown earlier and making sure Leon’s father never got it back. But when they saw the spear, their faces broke into smiles.
The spear was already destroyed.
“This is our chance! Get the traitor!” Peara shouted, and everyone followed her in the assault on Leon’s father and what remained of his goons. Arad found a nearby tree and sat beneath it, watching the fight and focusing on Tina, who found herself trying assist from range with her rifle.
^Where have you been?^ A voice whispered into Arad’s ear, and he couldn’t help but smile. ^Doma, it’s been a while.^
