The dragon's harem

Chapter 1579: Tales of Light from Shadows

Chapter 1579: Tales of Light from Shadows

Arad looked at the stars, still feeling his neck hurting. She broke all of his necks at once, even his shadow’s neck. Magic dragons were naturally stronger than the Chromatic and Metallic dragons, so Arad facing those was normal, but Linda here was a Magic drakaina and far older.

Now that he is thinking about it, fighting Linda is as stupid as facing Luminous, Betty’s bright grandma.

Linda looked at him, then smiled, “So, I wanted to ask. What’s your relationship with that drakaina, Luminous?”

Arad froze; he was thinking about her.

“When you visited the Chromatic dragons, she sent me a tip with a direct teleport link to the Chromatic Queen’s inner lair. Said that if anything happened to her or you, the Metallic dragons can use that to swarm down.” She looked at the stars, “I smelled her around your stomach.”

“You know that she is too bright to look at, that’s why she used my stomach as a carriage to get around. Also, her granddaughter is one of my wives.”

“I see… is that her?” Linda pointed up, and Arad didn’t even need to look. “No, she is too bright. The sun is Eris, another one of my wives.”

Arad looked up, and Linda was indeed looking at Eris’s sun. It was blindingly bright, but not as radiant as Luminous because Arad knows she spent hundreds of years trying to limit her light.

“I was in the shadow realm when Luminous came there seeking a solution to her light. Guess how terrified all the shadows were, even her shadow was as blinding as her.”

Arad sighed, “She said something about that. But, I always wanted to ask, how come you aren’t in the war?”

Linda looked at him.

“The war? Well, for me, your mother didn’t allow me to leave this world. I also had my work as a time drakaina, ending some threats before they started. For Luminous, I’m certain she fought in the war for a long time before her blinding light became a hazard.”

She looked at the stars, “Yeah, from what she told me in the past, she got that bright in a fight trying to survive a clash with one of Nyar’s vessels.”

It had happened several centuries ago, almost nine hundred years in the past. Luminous was already an elder at the time, a tall, beautiful, and stunning woman with long blond hair, glowing rainbow eyes, alabaster skin, and an aura of pure radiance.

She was leading a battalion of light dragons, mainly great wyrms, to wipe out several of the abomination bases and colonies as fast as possible. The light dragons were the god’s fast assault team; they were quick and hit hard.

But then, near the end of their mission, a vessel of Nyar blocked their path. Even with them making sure to attack the bases at random, Nyar had managed to guess their next target and waited for them there. Follow current novels on NoveI★Fire.net

What followed was a quick but deadly battle where countless light dragons lost their lives.

They were caught in a trap and had no way to escape. Help would soon arrive, but it would already be too late.

Luminous, who was the only elder present, fought the vessel, and everyone else supported her, but as time passed, her light was rapidly dimming with each blow she took.

Nyar had prepared well and was ready to kill the light dragons. If they are to survive, they must do something that Nyar didn’t expect.

The light dragons were one of the gods’ most reliable teams. They never failed a mission and were known to prefer death over failure.

Luminous turned around and ordered everyone to retreat, not a tactical retreat; Nyar already accounted for that. She ordered them to run away and spread.

She fought and bought them time to run away, but her light was already fading.

As Nyar countered all of her attacks, she had to look for other ways to fight besides blasting him with laser beams. It was then that she realised that light wasn’t limited to what could be seen; there were many other forms of light beyond what can be seen.

Light could be a solid photon, or it could also be an electromagnetic wave; it can even achieve the two states simultaneously.

But it was already too late to make use of that; she was already on her last leg, knocking on death’s door. So, all Luminous did was give Nyar one last middle finger before perishing.

She pulled all of her power and light in, all of her mana, soul, body, and will into one last suicidal move, an explosion of all of her light.

When Luminous unleashed all of her light, the fleeing light dragons recalled her becoming brighter than any star, emitting enough light that the void seemed to rupture.

Light of all the spectrums flooded out of her body, washing over Nyar’s vessel and cooking him alive like a piece of meat inside a million-watt microwave.

This burst of light was Luminous’s final attack, her final flash.

But something strange happened, Luminous didn’t die. The explosion never stopped, and she found herself alone in the void, being bright enough to blind other light dragons and kill them just by getting close.

Luminous tried to get rid of that constant light for decades, but in the end, she failed and was released from the war because she was a deadly hazard for everyone. That’s when she returned to the mortal world and found that her daughter had children.

From that day, Luminous took the job of a mirror merchant and started making and selling them, all while still working on a solution for her situation.

She had made great leaps and bounds, but was never able to fully snuff her light out. Even today, she was still too bright to be looked upon.

“She said that her mother must know a solution,” Arad asked, and Linda laughed.

“The Chromatic Queen? She is sure strong, but I doubt she has a cure. Luminous is the one who started the problem after all. I told her that she must’ve figured something out that was bad for her in that fight.” Linda moved and stood up, helping Arad to stand straight as well.

“Forbidden knowledge, I bet she learned something during that fight. That thing, even if she isn’t aware, is what is causing her case. I told her, but she doesn’t believe I’m right.” Linda scratched the back of her head.

Arad looked at Linda, “But, Luminous isn’t the only one. Her granddaughter is starting to glow as well. It had to be something in their bloodline.”

Linda frowned, “No, if she is her granddaughter, then I bet Luminous taught her how to use light magic, possibly passing whatever knowledge is triggering the light. The deeper her granddaughter’s understanding of that knowledge, the more her body would react to it. Like, knowing that you can breathe manually… see? The moment you realise that, you start manually breathing.”

Linda smiled, “I bet that’s the case. Since it’s knowledge that causes her problem, her shadow would know as well, which is why it was also glowing like a sun in the shadow realm.”

Arad stared at her for a moment. “Why do you know that?”

Linda sighed, “We met in the shadow realm and spent several years traveling there together.”

Linda had left for the shadow realm to track a time anomaly, one that potentially threatened to destroy a large continent. Whatever caused that anomaly was destroyed, but its shadow remained, so she had to get rid of it as well.

In the end, Linda learned that she was just taking the trash out. The anomaly was caused by a weapon that her mother made, one that someone ended up breaking, but they never found who.

The weapon was a long sword without a hilt.

Linda described the sword to Arad, and his eyes opened wide. He saw it, the sword the Queen was making when he walked into the throne room. How did it end up in the past? He couldn’t tell.
