Chapter 1460: What the Maids Want

Chapter 1460: What the Maids Want

D finally left Isabelle’s office and found herself standing in front of the bath’s door. It was more fitting to call the thing a gate instead, as it was a massive double door made of black steel and decorated with silver roses. She looked at the two vampire maids standing on each side. “Can you open this thing?” D wouldn’t be surprised if they needed a pulley and chains to open this castle-gate-like door.

The vampire maids instead just turned around and pushed at the door, forcing it to open without making a single noise. The hinges were well oiled, which was mostly because the last thing the vampires wanted was to annoy Arad or any of his wives.

As D walked inside, she saw four maids standing in the dressing room, waiting for her.

“Lady D, you’re finally here.” One of the maids approached her. “We’ll take your clothes here. Don’t worry, you’ll find them cleaned and dried when you get out.”

D gulped. Usually, she would’ve been terrified and would be forced to put on a poker face and ask the maids to leave her alone. Just the thought of four women stripping her naked and taking her dirty clothes away with them was enough to make her skin crawl.

But now, she didn’t care that much, and she knows why. The Nut Hat on her head. It was sucking all of her anxiety and worry away.

“Fine,” D replied and lifted her arms, standing with them apart as the maids pulled her dress over her head and stripped her down, only leaving the Hat, which they couldn’t take off her head.

“Is that a part of your skull?” One of the maids asked, and D touched the hat, “Isabelle gave it to me and said to keep it on.”

The maid nodded, “I see. But, washing your hair would be a problem.”

D agreed with them, but the hat quickly replied in its usual slow voice. “That… Isn’t… A… Problem.” A string appeared from the hat’s lower part and wrapped around D’s neck. She didn’t need to wear the hat, only keep it on herself. So hanging it down her neck wasn’t a problem. With the hat comfortably dangling on her back, D could relax a bit.

As a magic item, the hat could’ve been made into any form. D would prefer a necklace or a wristband, but she couldn’t complain when the thing worked so well.

Right now, she has four maids rubbing and washing every corner of her naked body, and while she would’ve died of embarrassment before, she felt perfectly normal now.

She looked at the maids for a long while, and then back at the wall in front of her. She would’ve said this felt weird if the hat didn’t already devour that feeling. But, they had had one function that D didn’t expect.

Even though she could feel the embarrassment, she knew it existed in the back of her head. So white the hat muffled her emotional outbursts, it still kept her aware of them.

“I would probably die of a heart attack if I took this hat now.” She growled, “Damn it.”

The maids looked at her with confused faces. “Is there a problem?”

Usually, D would never share her insecurities and fears, but with the hat on her head, she didn’t mind being honest. “I’m not that good with people, and normally I would’ve never allowed myself to be in this situation.”

One of the maids stopped and pulled the sponge away, “Aren’t you Jasmine’s Court Wizard? You should be used to a noble’s lifestyle, having maids help you change your clothes or wash you in the bath.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. I always took care of myself. It’s not that I didn’t get the chance. I never wanted to try it in the first place.” She looked at the maid with a smile, “This hat is like getting drunk, without the drunk part.”

“Nut hat, how much charge did you get so far?” She looked at the hat with a smile and got a surprising answer.

“Not much, not even worth mentioning. I’m more suited to absorbing madness, unadulterated rage, psychotic bursts, and carnal urges that can’t be suppressed. Mere embarrassment like yours is… not much.”

Hearing the hat’s reply, D frowned. Should she get offended by him calling her whole life’s problem, not much? Probably, but thanks to the stupid hat, she could feel anger that well.

“Are you mocking me?”

“No.” The hat replied in a flat tone, “What I’m saying is that drowning in madness, only seeing blood and ripping people alive for fun while not knowing reality from hallucination is a bigger problem than yours.”

“Fair enough. At least I can tell what’s real and what’s fake.” She stood after the maids finished washing her whole body. She looked back at them and smiled, “Are you four coming in?”

“Yes, after we wash ourselves. The clothes were already handed out to the washing team.” The maids bowed to D, and she didn’t leave.

“You know? How about I help you with four washes? You helped me, so it only makes sense that I’ll help you.” She bent down and picked one of the sponges and pointed at the hat on her back. “If not for this thing, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this.”

D helped the maids wash and then headed into the bath with them. As they walked out of the showers, they found themselves inside a massive hall with multiple pools of hot water. Countless women, humans, elves, vampires, and even demons relaxed inside, all surrounding one massive pool, where Arad and the others were sitting.

“How many?” D gasped, looked around, and counted everyone, “ARAD! A hundred and fifty-seven women! What?”

One of the maids looked at her, “Well, this is the servants’ bath.”

Another maid pulled a stick, “You might not know, but we almost had a fight deciding who stays in the bath while Arad is here.”

“It’s not like he can give you all the money or anything of worth.” D sighed, and the maids giggled.

“That’s where you’re wrong. None of us is looking for that.” One of the maids opened her mouth and showed D her long fangs, “We vampires worship him as our Lord and God, so getting anywhere close to him is an honor. The angels seem to be in the same boat as us, since he is the husband of their goddesses.” She then looked at the maid beside her. “For humans, I’ll let her speak.”

“He can sneeze, and the whole continent would evaporate. I’ll stay close, it’s safer, simpler, and better.” She approached her and whispered in her ear. “We get money, food, housing, luxury in everything, we commoners never get to see a bath like this, we’d be lucky to be able to take a shower once a week.” She looked around, “I won’t even mind getting plowed every night for this, but sadly for me, he doesn’t seem interested in anything besides his wives.”

Another maid approached her, “Who can blame him? He has goddesses as his wives. It doesn’t matter how beautiful or submissive we humans try; we won’t be worth the time in his eyes. That’s why we decided to aim for the wives instead. If we can serve them, we’ll get a chance to be beside them on the bed.”

“You can’t be serious.” D sighed, and the maid frowned.

“We aren’t talking about royalty or nobility here, we’re talking about the divines. Tell Lady Mira, for example, whatever heaven she is building, all of us want a spot there after we die. Just imagine eternal life in heaven. Lady Kali has her heaven, but that is a place for demons, explaining the demonic ladies you see here.”

“She is right. And you’re Lady Jasmine’s court wizard, her concubine, right? Don’t you two need any consort, or, you might want someone to test your spells on? Call me whenever you want, for any reason.” She winked at her, and the other maids got between them.

Seeing their glowing eyes, D had to back away and head toward Arad. She knows that dealing with them would only stress her out. The Nut Hat might be helping, but she won’t subject herself to such stress anyway.

As D reached the pool where Arad and his wives were, she looked at him, then down at her naked body. “Well, I’m too far gone.” She approached Jasmine and slowly lowered herself into the water by her side. “Sorry for being late.”

Jasmine smacked her on the back. “Don’t mind it, just relax.”

Arad looked at D for a moment. She noticed his gaze, but didn’t feel anything from it. He wasn’t looking at her body or soul, but at something else; he was thinking.

^The maids are right, he only cares about his wives.^

“Trina, Karol, Friss, Floyd… all four of you, wait.” When Arad spoke, the maids who accompanied D froze in place and started shaking. Arad didn’t just ask them to stop; he called them by name. How did he know the names of mere maids that he didn’t even anoint, none of them knew. But they know one thing: this can’t be good. The last thing a humble maid wants is to be called to the master’s office, and not his bedroom. They are getting fired, it must be it.

“You four learn the Dark Elves’ language and get to work. Two with Jasmine and two with D, your main job is to coordinate between their personal maids and the maid from Alina. It might take you some time and effort, so all you need to focus on now is your studies.”

D froze, the maids froze, but everyone else looked back.

That was a promotion.
