Chapter 1381 - 1381: The Twin Maids
Arad and the twins appeared in the office, and Isdis was sitting on her chair, waiting for them.
“So, you’re back.” She took a deep breath and glanced between them, “So? How did it end, and would any of you care to explain things to me?”
Rey pointed at Arad with her thumb, “He won.”
Ray pointed at him just like her sister did, “We’re drakainas, Mana wyrms. I’d have to say, those arms and that massive body aren’t for show.”
Isdis remained silent for a second and then sighed again, “I’d like to ask since when, but that won’t make sense. So I’ll ask instead, why were you sticking around me like maids.”
Usually, each world would only have a couple of Mana dragons to act as Yog’s agents and repair the weaves of mana and keep it stable. Most of the time, those dragons act separately. But since Rey and Ray were twins, Yog allowed them to work together and didn’t deploy them to different places.
Thanks to their power as wyrms and the fact that there are two of them and not just one, their mere existence is enough to sustain the fabric of magic in the world. They are like the trees that turn CO2 into oxygen. You need them to maintain a breathable atmosphere.
So, as long as they were doing their job, which to Rey and Ray only consisted of existing, they were almost free to do anything they wanted, as long as it didn’t include a massacre.
One day, they come across the Ruris family and their bloodline -A royal family blessed by magic. Yog informed them that two powerful talents would emerge from that family, one would become a goddess, and the other would be an Ice Empress.
The two chose to be the future goddess’s maids, but Yog insisted that while she was interesting, the Ice Empress would give them more fun.
Rey and Rey then used a mind control spell on a prostitute from the capital and had her carry them in a basket and throw them at the gates of the royal family. They, of course, left the woman with a small but sizeable sum.
It wasn’t common, but it wasn’t the first time someone tried to throw their kids at the royal family doors, either hoping for them to get adopted and profit later or just from desperation. The guards were ordered to take all those children straight to the orphanage, but when the babies were two mind-control capable drakainas, the guards took them inside with happy faces.
The royal family picked them up since they were already expecting a child, Isdis. They’ll just put them as her maids. It’ll give them a good lifestyle and enough wealth. They’ll be raised with Isdis to be her playmates and servants. When Isdis would start receiving her royal courses, the twins would start training as her maids at the same time.
Isdis, Rey, and Ray, the three of them, grew as sisters even though they knew they were a princess and her maids. They used to sneak out of the castle, fight with the brats of the nobles, and even hide in the mud pits away from Kin and Gin. Only now did Isdis understand how in the nine hells they were able to hide from Kin and Gin. Rey and Ray must’ve played some tricks.
After a few years, another important event happened while Isdis was just eleven years old and the twins, allegedly, were twelve years old.
Lucy was about to be born, and the twins were the ones to deliver her. Supervised by the experienced maids, this was a crucial part of their training. The queens seemed to trust the talented two girls a lot. In reality, the two drakainas just wanted to see the future goddess getting born, so they pulled some strings.
While the queen had some difficult births before, Lucy’s one went as smoothly as it could go. With Rey and Ray, albeit looking young, they worked together like one person and even surprised the older maids.
Now, another thing clicked in Isdis’s head: the reason Lucy was born with wild magic. She was delivered by two Mana wyrms. Of course, she’ll get something out of that.
The twins did correct her, saying that just their presence alone wouldn’t have done anything. It doesn’t work like that. The reason Lucy was born with wild magic is probably because the two of them spent a few days inspecting her body and magic circuit to look for the divine spark and didn’t find anything.
So, in the end, it was their fault.
In her whole life, Isdis was only aware of three assassination attempts on her, but Rey and Ray informed her that over fifteen assassins had tried to kill her before. Some were servants that she knew, some were random people they’d met on the street, and some she didn’t even know.
The most horrifying assassination attempt on Isdis’s life happened on the day of her birth. One of the maids was tasked to kill and replace her with another child who was already marked with a mind control spell.
Of course, that maid ended up face to face with two talking babies who told her to throw herself from the castle walls, and she did just that. The one who sent the maid died as well, but unlike the maid, the poor man was forgotten in a sauna and cooked alive. He was the older brother of the noble that Arad killed in the royal castle for insulting Mira.
The twins also told Isdis about the time she got hit with an arrow and almost died, that time when Arad almost blew the whole capital into the sky in rage. If the two didn’t shift the arrow’s direction with magic, she would’ve actually died.
While it’ll take the twins more than just a few minutes to tell Isdis about their full story, what they told her now was enough. She was extremely busy, after all. That is why she shifted quickly to the important question, what will they do now?
Rey and Ray already knew what they wanted, and it was to remain as maids, or at least wives masquerading as maids, as Kin and Gin do. That way, they can remain as two hidden cards without enough power to shift the tides of any battle. The only ones who’ll know about their true identity are the wives and those too close to the family. For everyone else, they should stay as just maids.
