Chapter 40: Chapter 37: The Vicious Evil Crow

Wang Lei stared at Bai Litang’s reaction in disbelief.

’Did that short-lived looking Yang Xiao actually get it right?’

It was obvious now. The deceased at Green Horse Manor were all murdered, killed over a piece of pendant jewelry.

But what was going on with the Crow saying everyone had died of natural causes?

Wang Lei’s confidence began to waver.

But on second thought, something still felt wrong.

When he himself had said those people died naturally, Bai Litang had clearly shown his agreement.

’Could someone really have a method to make a person’s lifespan drain away naturally?’

’If such a method really existed, the Crow would definitely be able to see it!’

In Wang Lei’s eyes, the Crow was a miraculous object that, while at his beck and call, was also omnipotent.

’Is it because I tied it up? Is the Crow angry?’

’Is that why it’s deliberately hiding things from me?’

’A mere beast dares to throw a tantrum at me?’

Wang Lei turned his head, shot a vicious glare at the Crow, and whispered:

"What’s going on?

Are you trying to make me look like a fool on purpose?

When we get back, I’m definitely going to starve you for a few days!"

The Crow’s eyes also held a trace of doubt.

It was sure it hadn’t seen wrong. Everyone had died a natural death, so how could it be murder?

Bai Litang cupped his fists towards Yang Xiao and said respectfully:

"Sir, please, you and this Mr. Wang, come with me to another place so we can talk properly."

Bai Litang felt that both Wang Lei and Yang Xiao were capable individuals.

’Hmm... but compared to him, Yang Xiao’s abilities seem a bit greater.’

Wang Lei shot a hateful glare at Yang Xiao for stealing his thunder.

"I underestimated you."

’For Yang Xiao to say something like that, he must have done his homework.’

’For instance, bribing someone close to Bai Litang to get some information no one else knew.’

’These street hustlers use tricks like that all the time.’

Wang Lei said to Bai Litang:

"No problem. Next, I’ll show you which of us is truly capable!"

Yang Xiao shook his head.

"I’d like to, but I can’t."

Bai Litang said urgently:

"Don’t worry, sir. As long as you solve my problem, money is no object."

Yang Xiao sneered.

"Don’t measure me with money."

Bai Litang:

"Then, you..."

"I would have liked to play around a little longer."

Yang Xiao’s gaze fell on Xia Li, who was watching the spectacle from the main table, and he said grimly:

"But with such an unstable element present, I have to be serious and make this quick."

The first time Yang Xiao saw Xia Li, he knew she was no simple woman.

She possessed a power that made him feel uneasy.

She was also an Extraordinary Being.

Yang Xiao was afraid she would disrupt his plans.

Bai Litang followed Yang Xiao’s gaze to Xia Li, his eyes filled with confusion.

"President Xia?"

Xia Li ignored Bai Litang. She glanced at Yang Xiao, put down the piece of fruit in her hand, and pointed at Wang Lei.

"Don’t mind me. I’m here for that Crow."

The corner of Wang Lei’s eye twitched.

’How did she discover the Crow’s miraculous nature?’

He always saw himself as the cool protagonist of an urban novel, but without this Crow, he was nothing.

A smile slowly formed on Yang Xiao’s lips.

"Good. Let’s each handle our own business. After the work is done, you and I can have a chat."

As soon as Yang Xiao finished speaking, the shadows around him gathered, and several humanoid figures rose to their feet!

"HOLY SHIT!"

Wang Lei cried out and collapsed into his chair.

Those tangible shadows were definitely not some magic trick!

’This Yang Xiao, who I’ve been treating as a fraud all this time, actually has real Magic?’

Having grown accustomed to being ’the only one with Magic’, seeing another person with mystical powers for the first time made Wang Lei’s brain shut down.

Yang Xiao suddenly lunged, his stick-thin body shooting towards Bai Litang!

Bai Litang reacted quickly, diving under a table and shouting sternly:

"Guards! Guards!"

Bai Litang’s personal bodyguards immediately drew pistols from their waists and fired three shots at Yang Xiao.

The shadow at Yang Xiao’s feet instantly formed a shield, blocking the bullets, and his forward momentum was halted.

Two thugs immediately pulled Bai Litang out from under the table and shielded him.

Other thugs brandishing knives and axes rushed out from various corners of the banquet hall to engage Yang Xiao.

The scene instantly descended into chaos.

Those so-called "masters" screamed, all trying to flee.

But to their horror, they found they couldn’t move.

Because their shadows, at some unknown point, had been stretched thin like ropes and were tangled together as if by a prankster.

Bai Litang stared intently at Yang Xiao.

"I understand now. You’re the one who killed my daughter?"

Facing a crowd of thugs, Yang Xiao showed no hint of panic and chuckled.

"Your daughter was very lucky. It was her honor to be killed by *that person*.

You, on the other hand, are a bit less fortunate. You only get to die by my hand.

Who told you to be so stupid? You went and made *that person* unhappy."

Bai Litang’s pupils contracted violently!

’This terrifying guy in front of me who can control shadows... is just a henchman for my enemy!’

...

Xia Li picked up a napkin, elegantly wiped her mouth, and strode towards Wang Lei on her long legs.

Suddenly, Wang Lei no longer found Xia Li sexy and charming, because he saw her eyes instantly turn crimson!

’She’s a monster too!’

When Wang Lei remembered he’d planned on adding her to his harem, he wanted to slap himself across the face.

’No wonder Great-Grandma didn’t want the Wang Family descendants to leave Pingchuan County. The world outside is this terrifying!’

As Xia Li walked, a cold sneer hung on her lips.

"Kid, the way you were looking at me earlier really pissed me off."

Watching Xia Li get closer and closer, Wang Lei swallowed the saliva caught in his throat in terror and stammered:

"Little... Little Master Hei, save me."

’So I’m not the cool protagonist of a novel after all, just a background character.’

"Sigh!"

The Crow on his shoulder let out a sigh.

Wang Lei whipped his head around to look at the Crow, his eyes suddenly widening!

He saw the Crow tear the chain apart with a single claw.

’So the Crow always had the power to break free from the chains; it just willingly allowed itself to be bound by me.’

The Crow looked at Xia Li, then at Yang Xiao.

A Vampire and a Shadow Demon.

"Sigh!"

The Crow sighed once more.

"Little Wang Lei, my connection with the Wang Family has come to an end. From now on, you must fend for yourself."

Wang Lei stared at the Crow in astonishment.

"Little Master Hei..."

A black light began to coalesce around the Crow as it said grimly:

"I was a dear friend to your great-grandmother.

I promised her I would protect the Wang Family and ensure its descendants a life free of worries.

It seems now I must break my promise.

I will hold off these two monsters. You should run.

As for whether you can survive... that will be up to fate."

Wang Lei was dumbfounded.

’So the Crow obeyed my every word not because Great-Grandma tamed it?’

’It was willing to be a slave for so many years, just because of a promise?’

A worry bloomed in Wang Lei’s heart.

’If it’s only because of a promise, will the Crow really do its utmost to protect me?’

The Crow transformed into a streak of black light and shot abruptly towards Bai Litang.

Bai Litang had no time to react, only seeing a black light merge into his body.

This was one of the Evil Crow’s abilities: Possession.

Bai Litang suddenly let out a bloodcurdling scream.

His body was changing.

His fingernails fell off, and finger bones pierced through his fingertips, emerging blood-stained into the air to form a pair of thick bone claws.

Two clouds of blood mist erupted from his abdomen and back as bits of flesh flew onto the faces of two security guards.

His ribs were bending backward, piercing through his back to form wing-like bone appendages!

The terrifying part was, Bai Litang was still alive!

He could do nothing but scream in agony, his face twisted in pain.

Yang Xiao tilted his head, watching the steadily intensifying aura of Bai Litang, and marveled:

"The poor rely on mutation, the rich rely on technology... and you’re relying on possession?"

Bai Litang wailed miserably:

"Kill me! Kill me!"

The Crow’s deep voice emanated from where Bai Litang’s heart was.

"Haven’t had a fight in over a hundred years. Come on, kid. Let Master Hei here warm up a bit."
