The Devil's Sweetheart

Chapter 246 - Marja Morevna

It was dark in the night. The pitch-black sky was turning into something more malignant, and the mists began to stir. Sizzling in turbid like a vortex of envy, they melded into massive clouds. Silence descended until the thunder roared, pouring the splatters of rain onto Terrian like gigantic bullets.

Amid a heavy downpour, a man was scurrying along the woods aimlessly. Neither he knew the destination nor the purpose. His bleeding feet were heckled by walking on the uneven road, but his sullen heart was in thirst, trying so desperately to find the traces of someone in every myriad soul he came across only to end up hurting. But still, in the hope of a weird miracle, he kept on searching until he caught a glimpse of a girl's silhouette with her back facing him. Peace alleviated in her presence.

He frantically moved in her direction, but he felt the distance farther away, the longer he walked. The unbearable pain of losing her pushed the barriers in him. Finally, it felt like an eternity when he reached to her, and before he turned her around to see the woman of his dreams, a strong force pulled him back, tying his legs and hands. Shortly, a thundering voice of a woman echoed into his ears. ''I am not letting you see her. Did you forget that you shouldn't approach her!"

''Just once, I will_"

"Go back and live happily with the present. The more you try to remember her, the harder your pain will be!'' The voice roared at him cutting his thoughts. His ears were bleeding with pain, and he no longer knew where he was. Everything grew blurry as he watched the thick mist taking the girl farther away from him, blocking his path.

...

Devin rose from the bed, thrusting his chest up and down. His body was drenched in sweat. The pain he felt in the dream was so real that he almost got a panic attack when he shot up. He looked around the surroundings; in the darkness of the room, he could only see a vague shadow of the moon seeping through the curtains. He fumbled with the covers and stumbled to the bathroom.

Splashing the cold water onto his face, he looked at his reflection in the mirror. He then looked over the surroundings, and everything seems inappropriate to him. Then the realization hit him that he is not in the home. He has come to Maine with Leena!

"Leena!" Devin screamed and dashed out of the bathroom. Flicking the lights on, he looked over the bed, and she was not in the room. Where did she go? Devin was about to rush outside to look for her when the door to their room was pushed open and entered the girl. ''Devin, are you_"

He rushed towards her and hugged her tightly, cutting off her thoughts. "Where did you go in the middle of the night, leaving me alone?"

"I_I am sorry! I went to check with the front desk if they can bring a doctor." She said, her arms felt dampened when she wrapped her arms around his waist. Did he get another panic attack in the dream? She was frightened to death when Devin's body went shivers all of a sudden in his sleep. She tried to wake him up, but he was battling with his inner demons to the point that her voice did not reach his ears. Another panic attack was the last thing she wanted him to suffer again. So, she went to bring the doctor. "How are you feeling now?"

"I am fine." He whispered, nuzzling his head in her shoulders. Being in her arms was the only way to calm down his racing heart. "Did I scare you?"

''No.'' Leena released herself from him and brought him to the bed. "Lie down. The doctor will arrive in a while."

"Call the doctor off." He said.

"Devin!" Leena's voice raised hysterically. ''Don't try to argue with me in this anymore.''

"Sweetheart, I am fine_"

Leena hushed him placing her finger on his lips. Her eyes tingled to see the once bright orbs turning dreary in a single night. Leaning forward, she peppered kisses on his face as she placed his hand over her heart. 'I_t's beating at a normal speed, right?'' She stuttered with her words.

He nodded his head despite the confusion.

''It's beating like that because of you. A while ago, I wouldn't be surprised even if it stopped beating.'' Her voice choked back in tears. ''I_I can't if something happens to_''

"Stop it, Leena!'' Devin cut off her thoughts. He can't think of anything happen to her, not even in his dreams. Bringing her to the bed, he rested his forehead against her as he stared into her watery eyes. ''I am sorry for making you worry. Please refrain from speaking nonsense, sweetheart. I will not tolerate it if it comes from your mouth again. Do you understand?''

''hmm...'' She hummed in reply in a hiccup.

''I will get treated with the doctor.'' He smiled tenderly. ''Don't get worried about_"

Their thoughts interrupted with a knock on the door.

''Stay here. It must be a doctor.'' Leena said, getting down from the bed. ''I will bring the doctor in.''

''Okay."

Leena stood in the room, running her fingers over the dress in restless as the doctor examined Devin. Once checked, she went along with the doctor to speak in private.

''Is it the first time he got spasm?" The doctor asked.

''As far as I have been with my husband, this is the first time I have seen him lost control,'' Leena said. ''Do you know what might be the problem?''

''Panic disorders sometimes occur when we see something that has caused us pain before. Did he see something or someone in the room?"

''I don't think he has seen any such kind of,'' Leena replied. How can she tell that Devin suddenly went haywire when they were getting intimate. She has to strike off the possibility that Devin got snubbed of kissing her because they have long passed that stage.

''It's not a biggie since it is the first time. Stress also can cause spasms. Let him have enough Rest.''

''I will. I don't want a word to go out of your mouth about today's incident.'' Leena voiced in a stern tone.

''Rest assured, Mrs. Wang. I was sent by Mr. Nick Hale.'' The doctor said. He is shocked by Leena's sudden shift from gentleness to a cold aura.

Leena nodded her head, made herself into the room when the doctor left. Devin was sitting in the bed staring outside as if he was in deep thoughts.

''Words don't work on this man anymore. I will have to babysit now.'' Leena mumbled and strolled into the bathroom.

Setting the water to lukewarm, Leena went back, and without speaking a word, she unbuttoned his shirt buttons and tossed the shirt aside. ''Go and take a shower.''

''Okay.'' Like an obedient child, he replied and left. His body was gluey with the amount of sweat his body produced, and he was sure he hadn't shred such an amount even in the gym like today.

Leena '' ''

"He is so cute when he is obedient. I should spoil him often.''

Devin let the cold water run his body while his thoughts went back to his dream. 'The more you try to remember her, the harder your pain will be.'

He felt like he has heard those words in the past, but he has no idea of the person. Devin knew some parts of his memory are no in line with his life, and for that reason, he recently visited a doctor, but the result proved there is no concussion in his brain neither. Where did it go wrong? ''I shouldn't think about it. Leena will get worried.'' He muttered and walked out.

As Devin arrived back, he saw Leena was preparing the bed. Unconsciously, his eyes scooted to her wrists which has turned purple by now. He remembered he had almost crushed them a while ago. Cursing at himself, he went back and arrived into the room with a gel in his hand.

''I am sorry.'' Devin pulled her back into his arms. ''Does it pain?'' He asked, taking her wrists into his hands,

''Not at all,'' Leena assured him with a smile. It pained like hell, but if she tells him, he would feel guilty until they fade away.

''Didn't anyone tell that you are bad at lying?"He asked, applying the gel.

''What can I say? I can mask anyone except my husband.'' She turned around and looked into his eyes.''Are you feeling better now?'' She wanted to ask about the incident, but at the same time, she doesn't want him to remember that dreadful thing again.

''I am fine now." He threw the gel onto the table and carried her to the bed. ''It's late already. You need to sleep.''

As Leena laid in his chest, Devin played with her hair contemplating to ask about a lingering question that gave him the panic attack. ''Leena, are you awake?"

''I am counting my Devin's name." She giggled.

''Now, you have turned into a cheesy wife." He chuckled. ''Do you like tattoos a lot? I found them one in your back.'' Devin sounded normal; he doesn't want Leena to know that he got a panic attack seeing a mere tattoo. She would definitely think he has gone insane.

''I am not fond of them at all. My reason for getting a tattoo was different.''

''What is it?"

''After my accident, one of the scars on my back didnot fade away. I didnot want to go for plastic surgery. So, one of the doctors suggested me to go for a tattoo.'' She added. ''I have researched for several tattoos and finally came up with a broccoli one because you know right, I am at cat's-paw when it comes to fruits and vegetables, but that stupid tattoo designer has sketched a heart-shaped tattoo. I shouldn't have gone to the place the doctor has suggested.''

''I gave left and right to that tattoo designer, but that woman was not accepting her mistake at all."

''Ummm...What's the doctor's name?'' He asked, his thoughts were in a jumble.

''Marja Morevna,'' Leena said.
