The Devil’s Reign:The first law of void
Chapter 122:The Devil Who Broke The Universe
Not peaceful.
Silent.
The kind of silence that descended when even the laws governing existence understood that something terrible was about to happen.
Across the shattered expanse of the space, two figures stood facing one another.
One wore darkness like a crown.
The other carried it like a birthright.
The Ghost King’s cloak drifted through a wind that did not exist. Behind him, countless fragments of the dimension floated like broken glass, each reflecting a different version of the universe. Some showed worlds burning. Others showed stars being born. A few reflected nothing at all.
Across from him, Lucifer Morningstar rolled his shoulders.
His black hair swayed gently. Crimson light pulsed through the markings covering his body, and seven distinct auras revolved around him like invisible celestial bodies.
His soul energy had changed.
No.
That was an understatement.
His entire existence had undergone a transformation.
Stage II: Sin Lord.
The Seven Deadly Sins no longer behaved like separate abilities. They had become a single system, a living mechanism that adapted to whatever stood before him.
Wrath strengthened Gluttony.
Gluttony fed the other sins.
Lust transformed pain into fuel.
Greed stretched the moments Lucifer needed to think.
Envy dissected his opponent.
Pride learned from everything it witnessed.
Sloth concealed the entire process.
Every sin supported the others.
Every weakness became an opportunity.
And at the center of it all stood Lucifer.
The Devil.
Chirin's voice rang inside his mind.
Lucifer.
"Hm?"
You realize the universe might actually end this time, right?
Lucifer tilted his head.
"Then I suppose we should make it memorable."
I hate it when you say things like that.
"Then stop asking obvious questions."
The Ghost King watched their exchange without speaking.
Then he raised one hand.
The darkness behind him opened its eyes.
"Come, Devil."
Lucifer smiled.
"Gladly."
And the universe disappeared between one heartbeat and the next.
I. The First Exchange
The Ghost King attacked first.
He did not move.
He simply decided that Lucifer was already within his reach.
An invisible force crushed the space around Lucifer from every direction. The surrounding dimension folded inward, attempting to compress him into a single point.
Lucifer's eyes narrowed.
"Greed."
Time slowed.
Not for the universe.
Not for the Ghost King.
Only for Lucifer.
A fraction of a second stretched into an endless corridor of possibilities.
He studied the distortion, traced its direction, and identified the force binding the surrounding space together.
Then he drew his scythe across the air.
"Dismantle."
An invisible slash tore through the distortion.
The pressure vanished.
Lucifer immediately stepped sideways.
A black fist emerged from the space where his head had been.
The Ghost King had already followed.
Lucifer's eyes widened slightly.
Fast.
The fist struck his shoulder.
The resulting impact sent him hurtling across the space. He passed through three layers of shattered dimensional barriers before stopping himself with a sweep of his hand.
His shoulder throbbed.
His soul energy flickered.
The Ghost King lowered his arm.
"You can perceive my attacks. You can even interrupt them."
He slowly clenched his fist.
"But perception is not the same as survival."
Lucifer rotated his shoulder.
"Good."
A grin appeared on his face.
"I was beginning to think the Soul King had exaggerated your abilities."
The Ghost King's expression darkened.
"Do not speak of him."
"Why? Afraid I'll mention how he died?"
The darkness surrounding the Ghost King erupted.
Lucifer's grin widened.
"Ah. There it is."
Wrath.
His crimson markings blazed.
The Ghost King's fist arrived.
Lucifer met it with his own.
The collision sent a shock wave through the space, shattering the floating fragments of the dimension into glittering debris.
Neither retreated.
For one instant, their fists remained locked together.
Then the Ghost King twisted his wrist and redirected Lucifer's momentum, throwing him into the path of a descending blade of compressed darkness.
Lucifer's pupils contracted.
"Severance."
A thin crimson line appeared between him and the attack.
The connection broke.
The blade separated from the force sustaining it and dissolved before reaching him.
Lucifer landed on a fragment of floating stone.
He glanced at the Ghost King.
"You're annoying."
"And you are arrogant."
"Yes. But I have the advantage of being correct."
The Ghost King vanished.
Lucifer's Demonic Eyes ignited.
There.
Not behind him.
Not above him.
Everywhere.
The Ghost King had spread his presence throughout the surrounding dimension, turning the very concept of direction into a weapon.
A fist emerged from Lucifer's shadow.
Another descended from above.
A third appeared inside the space he was about to occupy.
Lucifer crossed his arms.
"Blood Manipulation: Crimson Dominion."
The blood flowing through his body surged outward, forming countless thin crimson threads. They spread through the surrounding space, creating a web that reacted to disturbances before they became visible.
The first fist struck.
Lucifer twisted away.
The second grazed his side.
The third caught him squarely and hurled him from the stone fragment.
He spun through the space, but the crimson threads tightened around his limbs and pulled him back into position.
His boots touched the stone again.
A thin line of blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Lucifer wiped it away with his thumb.
Then he looked at the red stain.
"...You made me bleed."
The Ghost King said nothing.
Lucifer licked the blood from his thumb and laughed.
"Excellent."
His crimson aura expanded.
"Now I can stop pretending this is a warm-up."
II. The Seven Sins Unleashed
Lucifer disappeared.
The Ghost King turned.
Too late.
"Cleave."
A slash descended toward his shoulder.
The Ghost King raised a barrier of condensed soul energy. The slash cut through its outer layers before stopping just short of his body.
His eyes flickered.
Lucifer had adjusted the attack's strength to match the resistance he encountered.
A technique that adapted to its target.
A dangerous ability.
But the Ghost King had survived worse.
He twisted his body, caught Lucifer's wrist, and drove a wave of darkness through his arm.
Lucifer's fingers went numb.
The Ghost King pulled him closer.
"You're not the only one who can adapt."
A second wave struck Lucifer's chest.
His soul-energy armor fractured.
A third hit him before he could retreat.
Lucifer crashed into a distant mass of floating debris, which broke apart beneath him.
For a moment, he remained still.
Then he sat up.
"Sin of Lust."
The pain burning through his body transformed into power.
The fractures in his soul-energy armor glowed crimson. The energy that had threatened to destabilize him was redirected, absorbed into the system of his sins.
His breathing steadied.
"Sin of Gluttony."
The remnants of the Ghost King's attacks still lingered around him.
Lucifer devoured them.
Not the darkness itself, but the energy left behind by its destruction.
His aura surged.
"Sin of Envy."
His Demonic Eyes focused on the Ghost King.
Every movement revealed something.
The angle of his shoulders.
The subtle shift in his soul energy.
The delay between his intention and the appearance of his attacks.
The Ghost King was not simply controlling darkness.
He was imposing his will upon the space through which his soul energy traveled. His attacks were nearly instantaneous because he had learned to remove the delay between thought and execution.
Nearly.
Not entirely.
Lucifer's eyes gleamed.
"There you are."
The Ghost King felt the change.
"What did you see?"
Lucifer rose to his feet.
"Your bad habit."
"Which is?"
"You think because you're faster than everyone else, nobody will notice what you do before you move."
The Ghost King stared at him.
Then he laughed.
A genuine laugh.
"Interesting."
The darkness behind him spread across the dimension.
"Then let us see whether you can keep up."
Thousands of black spears appeared.
They came from every direction.
Lucifer's expression became serious.
"Greed."
The world slowed around him.
"Envy."
His mind dissected the attack.
"Pride."
His understanding of the Ghost King's technique sharpened, allowing him to reproduce its underlying principle—not its full power, but enough to interfere with it.
"Sloth."
His presence vanished.
The spears pierced the space where he had stood.
They found nothing.
For the first time, the Ghost King's attack passed through an empty target.
Lucifer reappeared at his flank.
"Raging Tempest."
His arm swept outward.
A storm of cutting forces erupted around him, each slash following a different trajectory. The attack did not merely rush toward the Ghost King. It surrounded him, forcing him to respond to countless threats at once.
The Ghost King raised both hands.
The darkness became a vortex.
The first wave of slashes disappeared into it.
Then the second.
Then the third.
He compressed the captured attacks into a sphere and hurled it back.
Lucifer's smile vanished.
"That's rude."
He crossed his fingers around his scythe.
"Severance."
The crimson line passed through the sphere.
Its connection to the stolen attacks broke.
The compressed energy burst apart harmlessly, scattering into the space.
But the Ghost King had used the moment to close the distance.
His palm struck Lucifer's chest.
The impact drove Lucifer backward, and the next attack caught him before he could stabilize.
The Ghost King hammered him through the remnants of the battlefield, each strike carrying enough force to fracture the dimensional barriers surrounding them.
Lucifer tried to counter.
The Ghost King changed direction.
Lucifer used Dismantle.
The Ghost King redirected the slash.
Lucifer invoked Blood Manipulation.
The Ghost King flooded the surrounding space with soul energy, disrupting the crimson threads.
Lucifer tried to disappear with Sloth.
The Ghost King attacked the area rather than Lucifer himself.
Every answer met another answer.
Every clever maneuver bought Lucifer only a fraction of a second.
And that fraction was never enough.
Finally, the Ghost King seized Lucifer by the throat and threw him toward a massive fragment of shattered space.
Lucifer struck it hard enough to split it apart.
The Ghost King descended slowly.
"You are powerful."
Lucifer pushed himself upright.
"I know."
"But you still fight as though every ability must lead to a victory."
He raised his hand.
The broken dimension trembled.
"Sometimes, Devil, the only purpose of an attack is to make you choose which disaster you will endure."
The fragments around Lucifer began to collapse.
He sensed the danger.
Not an attack aimed at his body.
An attack aimed at every possible escape route.
For the first time since the battle began, Lucifer's expression lost its amusement.
The Ghost King closed his fist.
The dimension folded.
Lucifer vanished beneath the collapsing darkness.
III. A Devil Learns
There was no sound.
No light.
No direction.
Lucifer stood in the center of an endless black expanse, surrounded by the remains of his own soul-energy armor.
The Ghost King's technique had not destroyed him.
It had isolated him.
Every path leading outward had been folded into another path leading inward. His own attempts to escape had become part of the prison.
A perfect loop.
Lucifer studied it.
Then he sighed.
"Chirin."
Yes?
"How long have we been in here?"
Time is distorted.
"That wasn't my question."
Long enough for me to reconsider every decision that brought me into your service.
Lucifer smiled faintly.
"You're welcome."
He lifted one hand with chirin in his hand.
"Dismantle."
The slash traveled outward.
It returned from behind him.
"Cleave."
The result was the same.
"Raging Tempest."
The storm circled him endlessly, devouring its own momentum.
Lucifer stood still.
The prison was designed to punish force with repetition. The harder he attacked the structure, the more energy he fed back into it.
He could destroy it.
Eventually.
But the Ghost King would not give him that time.
Lucifer closed his eyes.
"Greed."
His perception slowed.
"Envy."
He examined the prison again, this time ignoring the walls and searching for the decision that held them together.
Every loop possessed a starting point.
Every effect required a cause.
And every technique, no matter how powerful, relied on something that connected its beginning to its end.
There.
A nearly imperceptible pulse.
The Ghost King's will.
Lucifer smiled.
"Found you."
He extended his scythe.
"Severance."
A crimson line appeared across the blackness.
It did not cut the prison.
It cut the relationship between the prison and the intention sustaining it.
For a fraction of a second, the loop lost its purpose.
That was enough.
Lucifer struck the weakened boundary with Cleave.
The prison shattered.
He emerged into the battlefield just as the Ghost King turned toward him.
The two stared at one another.
Then the Ghost King nodded.
"Well done."
Lucifer brushed dust from his shoulder.
"Was that supposed to impress me?"
"No. It was supposed to teach you."
"Then I hope you have a better lesson prepared."
The Ghost King raised his head.
"I do."
The darkness around them vanished.
Every fragment of the shattered dimension stopped moving.
The distant stars froze.
Even Lucifer's crimson aura seemed to hesitate.
The Ghost King brought his hands together.
"Kingdom of the Last Regret."
The universe changed.
Lucifer stood in a vast, ruined city.
Rain fell from a colorless sky.
Buildings leaned over empty streets. Streetlights flickered. Broken windows reflected a world that no longer existed.
He recognized the place.
Not because he had been there before.
Because he had seen it in the Ghost King's memories.
An orphanage stood at the end of the road.
Two boys sat beneath its roof.
One was thin, hungry, and clutching a cup of water.
The other held a small piece of bread.
He broke it in half.
Then he gave the larger piece to his friend.
The Ghost King stood beside the scene, watching the two children.
"Do you know what I wanted, Devil?"
Lucifer did not answer immediately.
The memory faded.
The two boys grew older.
They ran through narrow streets. They stole food. They fought to survive. They laughed when they could and endured when they could not.
Then came the training grounds.
One boy rose through the ranks.
The other struggled.
Then came the battlefield.
One boy stood firm.
The other fled.
Then came the throne.
One was chosen.
The other was abandoned.
The Ghost King watched the memories disappear.
"I wanted to stand beside him."
His voice was quiet.
"I wanted to give him bread when he was hungry. I wanted to walk beside him when he became strong. I wanted to see the world with him when we were finally free of the people who treated us like disposable tools."
His fingers curled.
"Instead, they gave him a throne and gave me a reason to hate it."
Lucifer remained silent.
"I thought that if I destroyed the system, if I destroyed the world that had made us suffer, I could finally silence the voice inside me."
The Ghost King turned toward him.
"But the world never ended. It simply gave me more enemies."
His expression hardened.
"And then I became the very thing I had hated."
Lucifer studied him.
"So you destroyed everything because you couldn't accept that your friend had been chosen over you?"
The Ghost King's eyes narrowed.
"Is that all you heard?"
"No."
Lucifer's voice was calm.
"I heard that you spent your entire existence blaming the world for a choice you could never forgive."
The Ghost King stared at him.
Then he laughed bitterly.
"You really are the Devil."
"Frequently."
"You have no sympathy?"
"I have understanding. They are not the same thing."
Lucifer walked past the fading image of the two children.
"Your friend chose to protect people even when he was afraid. You chose to punish the world because you were afraid of being forgotten."
He stopped.
"Neither choice was simple. Neither erased what came before."
The Ghost King's aura trembled.
"And what would you have done?"
Lucifer turned his head.
"I would have taken the throne."
The Ghost King blinked.
Lucifer continued without hesitation.
"Then I would have changed the system. Anyone who objected would have learned to live with disappointment."
For a moment, the Ghost King simply stared at him.
Then he burst into laughter.
Not because Lucifer's answer was funny.
Because it was so utterly, impossibly Lucifer.
"You wouldn't have tried to save anyone?"
"Anyone worth saving, perhaps."
"And the rest?"
Lucifer's smile returned.
"Not my problem."
The ruined city cracked.
The rain stopped in midair.
The Ghost King raised both arms.
"Then let us finish this!"
The memories collapsed.
The city vanished.
And the battlefield returned.
IV. The Last King
The Ghost King no longer held back.
His darkness surged across the battlefield, forming enormous hands that gripped the fractured dimension itself.
The surrounding space twisted.
Lucifer felt the pressure immediately.
This was no longer a battle of techniques.
The Ghost King was drawing upon everything that remained of his existence.
Every stolen fragment of soul energy.
Every accumulated regret.
Every battle he had survived.
Every year he had spent refusing to let go.
All of it gathered into a single, overwhelming force.
Lucifer's smile faded.
"Sin Lord."
The seven sins awakened simultaneously.
Wrath ignited his power.
Gluttony consumed the excess energy threatening to tear his body apart.
Lust converted the pain of his damaged vessel into fuel.
Greed stretched his perception.
Envy analyzed the approaching catastrophe.
Pride refined every technique he had learned.
Sloth concealed his movements within the turbulence of existence.
The seven powers became one.
Crimson and black energy spiraled around Lucifer, forming a vast, rotating halo behind him.
For an instant, the silhouette of his true self appeared above him.
A figure too vast to be measured by ordinary space.
A presence that made the surrounding darkness seem like a pale imitation.
The Ghost King's expression changed.
He had sensed Lucifer's power before.
He had fought it.
He had survived it.
But this was different.
The thing behind Lucifer was not simply a stronger version of the man standing before him.
It was something that the current vessel could barely contain.
Something that even the Sin Lord transformation had only begun to reveal.
Lucifer raised his hand.
"Blood Manipulation: Crimson Throne."
The remaining blood within the battlefield answered his command.
Scarlet streams erupted from the scattered traces of energy, weaving into an enormous formation around the Ghost King. Chains formed from condensed blood and soul energy, wrapping around the darkness that held the dimension together.
The Ghost King tore through the first layer.
Lucifer tightened his fingers.
The second layer closed.
The Ghost King broke that too.
But every time he destroyed a chain, Gluttony devoured the energy released by its destruction.
Every time he struck, Wrath strengthened Lucifer's counterattack.
Every time he changed his technique, Envy adapted.
The Ghost King realized the danger.
Lucifer was turning the battle itself into a resource.
The longer they fought, the more efficiently his sins operated.
If the battle continued indefinitely, Lucifer's system would gradually learn to counter him.
The Ghost King could not allow that.
He thrust both hands forward.
The darkness compressed into a single point.
Lucifer's Demonic Eyes widened.
"Greed!"
Time stretched.
"Envy!"
The attack unfolded before him in a thousand possible variations.
"Pride!"
Lucifer copied the underlying principle of the Ghost King's compression technique, creating a counterforce of his own.
But the Ghost King had anticipated that response.
He changed the direction of the attack at the final instant.
The compressed darkness detonated beside Lucifer.
The shock wave struck him before his counterforce could stabilize.
Lucifer was thrown backward.
His crimson halo fractured.
The silhouette behind him flickered.
Pain raced through his vessel.
His instincts surged.
For a fleeting moment, the battlefield seemed to shrink beneath him. The Ghost King became a target. The remaining universe became an obstacle. Every thought other than destruction faded toward irrelevance.
Lucifer's fingers twitched.
Lucifer.
Chirin's voice cut through the rising pressure.
Your vessel is reaching its limit.
"I know."
If you keep forcing power through it—
"I know."
His voice was colder this time.
Lucifer slowly straightened.
Then he took a breath.
He did not release more power.
He controlled what he already possessed.
The crimson halo stabilized.
The silhouette behind him became faint, retreating into the depths of his existence.
Lucifer looked at the Ghost King.
"That was close."
The Ghost King watched him carefully.
"You held back."
"I prefer winning with a functioning body."
"You could have released more of your power."
"And risk losing control? How boring."
Lucifer raised his hand.
"But you have made one mistake."
The Ghost King said nothing.
Lucifer's eyes glowed.
"You assumed I needed to overpower you."
The blood chains surrounding the battlefield vanished.
Every remaining crimson thread gathered into Lucifer's palm.
His soul energy compressed.
His sins aligned.
The seven powers did not explode outward.
They became silent.
Wrath stopped raging.
Gluttony stopped consuming.
Greed stopped stretching time.
Envy stopped analyzing.
Pride stopped copying.
Lust stopped transforming pain.
Sloth stopped hiding.
For one impossible instant, every sin became perfectly still.
Then they moved together.
"Sin Lord: Sevenfold Judgment."
Lucifer vanished.
The Ghost King reacted instantly.
A wall of darkness erupted between them.
"Dismantle."
The first slash cut through the wall.
The Ghost King redirected the remaining fragments toward Lucifer.
"Raging Tempest."
A storm of slashes intercepted them, shredding the redirected attack into harmless fragments of energy.
The Ghost King stepped backward.
Lucifer appeared above him.
"Cleave."
The Ghost King crossed his arms and reinforced his body with everything he had left.
The slash struck.
The surrounding dimension split open.
The Ghost King was driven downward, but he did not fall alone. He seized Lucifer's arm and dragged him into a vortex of darkness.
Both disappeared inside it.
For a moment, nothing moved.
Then a crimson line cut across the vortex.
"Severance."
The connection between the vortex and the Ghost King's control broke.
The darkness collapsed.
Lucifer emerged first.
He caught the Ghost King by the shoulder and drove him through the last remaining layer of the battlefield.
The impact sent both of them crashing onto a vast, broken platform suspended above the rift.
The Ghost King rolled away and forced himself upright.
Lucifer landed opposite him.
Both were breathing heavily.
Both were damaged.
The Ghost King's aura flickered like a dying star.
Lucifer's soul-energy armor was nearly gone, and the markings across his body had dimmed.
For the first time, neither immediately attacked.
The Ghost King looked down at his hands.
Dust drifted from his fingertips.
He laughed softly.
"So this is how it ends."
Lucifer wiped a streak of blood from his face.
"Unless you have another surprise, yes."
The Ghost King raised his head.
"You really are something else, Devil."
"I've been told."
"You don't care about the world."
"Not particularly."
"You don't care about justice."
"Justice is a word people use when they want their desires to sound noble."
The Ghost King smiled.
"And you don't even want revenge for the Soul King."
Lucifer looked at him.
"He chose his path. You chose yours."
His expression remained unreadable.
"I won't pretend I understand every decision either of you made. But I have no intention of living my life according to someone else's regrets."
For a long moment, the Ghost King said nothing.
Then he laughed.
It was the first peaceful sound he had made throughout the entire battle.
"Perhaps..."
His body began to dissolve.
"...perhaps that is why you were the one who survived."
Lucifer tilted his head.
"What?"
The Ghost King looked past him.
Toward the enormous crack that stretched across the void.
The rift leading back to the world where the Soul King and Ghost King had once lived.
The world that contained the people they had met.
Amaira.
Duan.
The military.
The cities.
The countless lives still unfolding beneath an ordinary sky.
The Ghost King's remaining power gathered around his hand.
Lucifer noticed the movement.
He could have stopped it.
His Severance could have interrupted the attack.
His blood manipulation could have bound the Ghost King's arm.
His Sin Lord abilities could have disrupted the gathering energy.
He could have crossed the distance before the strike landed.
But he did none of those things.
He simply watched.
The Ghost King brought his hand down.
The attack passed Lucifer.
It struck the crack behind him.
And the world beyond it ceased to exist.
V. The World That Wasn't Saved
There was no explosion.
No firestorm.
No final scream carried across the stars.
The attack struck the rift, and the reality connected to it simply vanished.
Every star.
Every planet.
Every ocean.
Every mountain.
Every city.
Every living soul.
The world where the Soul King had been born, where the Ghost King had grown up, where Amaira and Duan had lived and fought and laughed—all of it disappeared in a single instant.
The crack remained for one heartbeat.
Then it sealed.
Lucifer stood motionless before the place where the world had been.
The Ghost King lowered his arm.
His body was almost entirely dust now.
He looked at Lucifer.
"You could have stopped me."
"Yes."
"Why didn't you?"
Lucifer turned his head slightly.
"Do I have to?"
The Ghost King stared at him.
Lucifer's expression was utterly calm.
"After all, I'm not a hero saving the day."
His eyes glowed crimson.
"I'm the Devil, doing whatever I want."
Silence.
Then the Ghost King began to laugh.
He laughed as the last remnants of his existence drifted away. He laughed as the darkness that had surrounded him for so long finally loosened its grip. He laughed until there was almost nothing left to make a sound.
"Of course..."
His voice was barely a whisper.
"Of course, you are."
Lucifer watched him.
The Ghost King looked toward the empty space where his world had been.
For the first time, there was no hatred in his eyes.
Only something Lucifer could not quite identify.
Relief, perhaps.
Or regret.
Maybe the two had become indistinguishable.
"Listen carefully, Devil."
Lucifer said nothing.
The Ghost King's remaining face began to dissolve.
"Because the Devil is here..."
His smile widened.
"...the balance has been broken."
Lucifer's eyes narrowed.
"What does that mean?"
But the Ghost King was already disappearing.
His outline scattered into countless particles of darkness, each one fading before it could travel even a short distance.
The last trace of his presence vanished.
No soul remained.
No energy lingered for Gluttony to consume.
No memory could be recovered from his fading power.
The Ghost King had not merely died.
He had disappeared from existence.
And Lucifer was alone.
VI. The Price of Victory
For several seconds, Lucifer did not move.
Then he looked at the empty space behind him.
Nothing.
Not a planet.
Not a star.
Not even the faintest trace of the world that had existed there moments ago.
His expression did not change.
He had known what the Ghost King intended to do.
He had seen the attack gather.
And he had allowed it.
Perhaps because he wanted to know what the Ghost King would choose at the end.
Perhaps because he had no interest in saving a world that had never been his responsibility.
Perhaps because he simply wanted to see what would happen.
Lucifer exhaled.
"Chirin."
Yes?
"That was an interesting final move."
You allowed him to erase an entire world.
"Technically, he did it."
That distinction is not going to make me feel better.
Lucifer shrugged.
"Then don't."
He turned away from the sealed rift and began to fly toward the remaining fragments of the battlefield.
His body was exhausted. His vessel was damaged. The power of Sin Lord had pushed him close to a threshold he had no intention of crossing again without preparation.
Yet his mind remained sharp.
The Ghost King had been defeated.
The battle was over.
The universe should have returned to its ordinary rhythm.
Instead, the stars began to flicker.
Lucifer stopped.
A thin fracture appeared across the darkness ahead.
Then another.
Then a thousand more.
The surrounding dimension trembled, and the laws holding it together began to fail. Distance became inconsistent. Fragments of space drifted apart, while other fragments folded inward.
The laws itself was coming undone.
Lucifer slowly looked around.
"...That can't be good."
You think?
The cracks spread.
One passed through a distant star, and the star vanished without leaving debris.
Another crossed a floating fragment of space, erasing the fragment's existence entirely.
The battlefield was no longer breaking.
It was being unmade.
Lucifer's Demonic Eyes searched the surrounding space.
He found no enemy.
No hidden technique.
No remaining energy from the Ghost King.
Nothing that could explain what was happening.
Only the consequences of their battle.
The power they had unleashed had damaged something fundamental. The final attack had destroyed the world on the other side of the rift, and now the universe around them could no longer sustain itself.
Or perhaps the destruction had merely revealed a weakness that had always been there.
Lucifer could not tell.
He began flying faster.
Behind him, the battlefield crumbled into nothingness.
Ahead, the darkness fractured.
Every direction led toward a dying universe.
And one question refused to leave his mind.
Because the Devil is here, the balance has been broken.
Lucifer replayed the Ghost King's final words.
The timing.
The smile.
The complete absence of fear.
Had the Ghost King known this would happen?
Had he deliberately destroyed the world to trigger something?
Or had he simply recognized a truth that Lucifer had yet to understand?
Lucifer frowned.
He hated unanswered questions.
They were inefficient.
They were irritating.
And, worst of all, they tended to become problems at inconvenient times.
He considered the possibilities for another few seconds.
Then he clicked his tongue.
"Whatever."
Whatever?
"I'll think about it when it's time."
That is your solution to everything.
"Incorrect. Sometimes I ignore things entirely."
Lucifer, the universe is literally collapsing around us.
Lucifer looked at the approaching wall of light.
"Yes. I noticed."
The light was growing brighter.
It poured through the fractures, swallowing the remaining darkness. Space disappeared beneath it. Time lost its direction. The final remnants of the battlefield scattered like ash.
Lucifer faced the light without slowing.
His black hair lifted in the growing radiance.
His crimson eyes narrowed.
Then he smiled.
"Well, Ghost King."
He raised one hand as the universe began to vanish.
"You certainly knew how to end a fight."
The light consumed him.
And the universe died.
VII. Beyond the End
There was nothing.
Not darkness.
Darkness required a place in which to exist.
Not silence.
Silence required the possibility of sound.
There was no space.
No time.
No beginning.
No ending.
Even causality—the principle that allowed one event to follow another—had ceased to function.
Nothing could happen here.
Because there was no longer a framework in which anything could happen.
And yet—
A throne existed.
It stood in a place that was neither Heaven nor Hell, neither the void nor the space between universes.
The throne was engulfed in darkness, but the darkness did not surround it.
It belonged to it.
Its enormous structure seemed to have been carved from the absence of existence itself. No light touched its surface. No shadow extended from it.
There was nothing before the throne.
Nothing behind it.
Nothing above or below.
As if time and space had never existed here.
As if the laws of cause and effect had been forbidden from entering.
Someone sat upon it.
One leg rested over the other.
A hand supported their chin.
And from the depths of that impossible stillness came a soft, almost cheerful humming.
The figure appeared to be waiting.
Not impatiently.
Not anxiously.
With the calm of someone who had known the outcome long before the events leading to it had begun.
A faint ripple passed through the darkness.
The figure stopped humming.
For the first time, something resembling a smile appeared.
"So..."
Their voice traveled through the place without moving through space.
"You have broken through to Sin Lord, Lucifer."
The throne remained still.
The figure leaned back.
"Impressive."
A pause.
"But still not enough."
Their fingers tapped the armrest once.
No sound followed.
"I wonder how long it will take you to understand what you have actually become."
The darkness behind the throne shifted.
For an instant, countless indistinct shapes seemed to stir within it—something ancient, something patient, something that had never needed to pursue its prey because it had always known the prey would eventually arrive.
The figure resumed humming.
"I'll wait for you."
Their eyes opened.
Beyond the throne, there was no universe.
No reality.
No existence.
And yet, from somewhere in that impossible absence, something answered the figure's gaze.
Something that had survived the end.
Something that had been waiting even longer.
The smile on the seated figure's face deepened.
"Come along, little Devil."
The darkness closed around the throne.
"Your real story is only beginning."
