The Demon with Holy Radiance
Chapter 707 - 384: Answer
She watched as the monster ignored her, charging instead toward another person on the side of the road.
The terrified woman, leaning against the wall, wanted to take this chance to escape, but she found her legs had gone weak. No matter how she tried, she couldn’t move her feet.
The two men killed just a second before died with their eyes wide open, as if they were staring right at her. Crimson blood pooled across the ground, and much of it had even spattered onto her.
The woman could only watch this scene unfold, her heart filled with despair.
At that very moment, as the monster charged at him, Yang An tightened his grip on the Red Feather Blade in his hand.
The man covered in arms rushed forward like a reptile, his long tongue suddenly shooting from his mouth like a sharp arrow, aimed straight at Yang An’s head.
It seemed to know that the Yang An before it was no ordinary person, so it held nothing back with this attack, aiming for Yang An’s Life Gate.
But its tongue had only just shot from its mouth when a red shadow suddenly flashed before its eyes. Somehow, Yang An had appeared at its side.
An excruciating pain shot through it, and the man’s long tongue was suddenly sliced in two. The pieces flew far away, splatting against a wall.
By the time its gaze shifted from its severed tongue back to Yang An at its side, it saw that Yang An had already raised the Red Feather Blade and was slashing down.
The blade met no resistance, slicing the creature clean in two. A massive spray of blood gushed out.
Having fought countless battles, Yang An naturally knew how to dodge. The moment he finished the creature off with his strike, he had already flashed to one side, his body untouched by even a single drop of the foul-smelling blood.
But as he looked at the dead man, a thoughtful expression flickered in his eyes.
’This thing didn’t possess Immortality. It died from a single strike, before the blood poison even had a chance to activate. After the blood poison took effect, its corpse quickly dissolved into a pool of pus.’
’Could this be the giant centipede from the Land of Shattered Armor?’
Yang An was suspicious, but he couldn’t be certain.
’Logically, the Xian Origin Land and reality are two different worlds,’ he thought. ’It’s as if I was suddenly transported from one to the other. Even though they’re quite similar, there shouldn’t be such a coincidental connection.’
’Besides, one is a world of Cultivators, and the other is a modern society. Even in terms of time and space, the previous era of the Origin Realm was ruled by the Five Great Celestial Sects, and it has no connection to a modern world.’
However, the words Old Life Crane had told him before left him suspicious and uncertain.
Still, temporarily avoiding the giant centipede in Broken Armor gave Yang An some time to breathe and think. He could investigate further; he couldn’t draw any conclusions based on this single point.
Yang An gripped his Red Feather Blade, the sky-full of White Feathers behind him still not withdrawn. He remained on high alert for any surprises, and his gaze fell upon the woman the monster hadn’t killed.
When she saw Yang An’s gaze suddenly turn to her, the woman found a sudden burst of strength from somewhere. Screaming, she braced a hand against the wall and scrambled away from him.
’I don’t even know if the people I see here are real, if they’re monsters or actual humans,’ Yang An thought. He had originally planned to ask her where this place was, but on second thought, he decided not to pursue her.
’Better to trust the weapon in my hand than the people of this world. Until I understand the situation, it’s best not to make contact with anyone.’
Only now did Yang An have a moment to survey his surroundings. The area was brilliantly lit, clearly a prosperous city. In the distance, he could clearly see clusters of skyscrapers, yet there were no familiar landmarks from his memory. It was both familiar and strange.
He tried walking along the street to its end. On the brightly lit main road, he could occasionally see the taillights of cars flashing past. If it weren’t for the monster from before, everything here would seem perfectly normal.
This was different from when Yang An had entered the first five floors of the Xian Origin Land. Back then, he had relied on pain to stabilize his perception of the Deep World, and everything had felt illusory and ethereal, not quite real.
But now, having entered the 6th Floor, Yang An could see everything before him with perfect clarity. He could truly feel the solid ground beneath his feet. Even the wind blowing here, brushing against every pore on his skin, felt completely real.
Finding nothing else out of the ordinary, Yang An walked for a while longer before deciding it was time to return to Broken Armor.
After all, his main objective was to venture deep into Broken Armor, and the sooner, the better. While staying here offered a temporary reprieve from danger, he would still have to face it upon his return.
Walking to a secluded corner, Yang An began to channel the mask on his face. At the same time, he prepared himself to immediately flee the area around the mountain the instant he returned to Broken Armor.
As Yang An focused his senses, flames once again flared violently, as if burning away a painted scroll. In an instant, everything changed.
He had returned to Broken Armor. Gripping his Red Feather Blade, he suddenly noticed that the thick, viscous feeling in the air was gone. Elated, he was about to leave, but then he suddenly froze.
The dangerous aura was gone. Yang An scanned his surroundings and discovered that upon returning to Broken Armor, he wasn’t in his original location. He had arrived in a new place.
The monster that looked like a giant centipede was nowhere to be found. But when he turned his head, he could still see the clear outline of the mountain made of black substance, several thousand meters behind him.
