The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man
Chapter 810 - 806: Bad Luck and Purple Qi
The man’s bad luck was exceedingly strong. Just getting close to him or making physical contact was enough to curse others. Under normal circumstances, Leng Yuan would have fallen victim to it by now.
But as the man sized Leng Yuan up, he realized the latter was completely fine, just like a normal person. He was deeply shocked. In all these years, Leng Yuan was the first person to come into contact with him without suffering any misfortune.
"Wh-why?" he stammered. He wondered why everyone else was plagued by bad luck, yet Leng Yuan remained entirely unscathed.
"Because everyone carries their own fortune," Leng Yuan explained. "You carry extreme misfortune, while I carry good fortune. Both are likely immensely powerful, so they simply canceled each other out."
The purple aura surrounding Leng Yuan was so incredibly rare that a single world might not even produce two such existences. Naturally, it could neutralize any bad luck.
The man fell silent for a moment. Seeing that Leng Yuan was genuinely unaffected, he finally stepped forward to open the door. He wasn’t a savage; naturally, he longed for normal conversation. But since anyone who got close to him met a terrible fate, he had simply stopped talking over time.
As the wild-looking man walked past Gu Jiaojiao, he noticed she was entirely unaffected as well. His entire worldview shattered.
"Are you also someone with immense good fortune?"
Gu Jiaojiao shook her head. "No, because I’m wearing gloves." She raised her hands to show off a pair of silk gloves that faintly reflected white light under the sun.
The man couldn’t help but take an extra glance, prompting Leng Yuan to step forward and pull Gu Jiaojiao to the side. His wife’s hands were not for other men to stare at.
Retracting his gaze, the man pushed the door open and led the couple inside.
He lived alone on the mountain and rarely locked his door. The people of Liu Jiagou knew about his condition, so no one ever came to visit anyway. Because he lived there, the entire mountain had become a taboo area for the surrounding villages. It was exceptionally rare to see another soul.
"Have a seat."
Leng Yuan fetched a stool for Gu Jiaojiao to sit on, then grabbed a wooden stump for himself. The man sat down on another stump.
After a brief introduction, Gu Jiaojiao finally learned their host’s name.
He was Shen Lang. When he was born, a torrential downpour had nearly flooded Liu Jiagou. At the time, the villagers hadn’t thought much of it, assuming it was just a natural disaster. But then his mother died. Then his father. One by one, his relatives passed away.
The villagers started to gossip about him. Eventually, anyone who got close to Shen Lang began suffering from terrible luck, and he was ultimately driven out of the village.
In truth, the rumors were somewhat exaggerated. It was possible that he had jinxed his parents to death, but his grandparents hadn’t even lived with him. The elderly couple resided in their own old house and rarely interacted with him; they had died because their roof collapsed and crushed them inside.
As for the villagers, they had never been close to him to begin with. The rumors truly took off after a few kind-hearted women gave him some food and immediately met with misfortune. After that, even those who didn’t believe in superstitions stopped daring to get too close. When they inevitably ran into bad luck as well, his cursed reputation was permanently cemented.
When the village chief ordered him to move away, he had shouted the command from behind a closed door.
Truthfully, Shen Lang could have stayed. No one would have dared to barge into his house to physically evict him. But he hadn’t wanted to burden those around him—especially since the ones getting hurt were the few who had shown him kindness. So, he packed up and left.
He had lived alone in the mountains for many years since then. The villagers had probably forgotten he even existed.
Shen Lang looked at Leng Yuan. "What did you mean when you said you could make me a normal person?"
No one wanted to be a freak—especially not a freak whose very presence cursed everyone around him. He didn’t care about the people of Liu Jiagou, but he did want to go out and see the world.
At the very least, he wanted to get a haircut.
