The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man
Chapter 743 - 739: Suddenly, So Many Studious Children
Jiang Baishu was helping the blacksmith forge iron when his nose suddenly started to itch, and he let out two sneezes.
He rubbed his nose, a puzzled look on his face.
Ever since he started exercising daily, he hadn’t gotten sick once, aside from when he was injured. He had no idea what was happening today that he would actually sneeze.
He had a feeling that someone was plotting against him.
"Bai Shu, hurry over and help."
Chen JianShe had just finished assembling something and needed someone to hold it steady, so he called out to Jiang Baishu.
Jiang Baishu snapped out of his thoughts and immediately rushed over to help.
Over the course of the morning, the small corn-planting machine was built, but they didn’t rush to have everyone start using it yet.
Meanwhile, Sweet Girl’s mission was also progressing nicely. The children who memorized what they heard would hurry over to report to her and exchange their information for a piece of candy.
Those who took notes in their little notebooks weren’t in such a rush; they would wait until they had recorded several items before finding Sweet Girl.
The adults working in the fields would occasionally see children walk past with notebooks, scribbling something as they went.
Everyone was baffled.
’Since when did the children of our Qingshan Team love studying so much?’ Upon a closer look, they realized these were the kids who were usually the most mischievous troublemakers.
Seeing them suddenly so focused, many of the adults felt quite gratified.
’Not bad, not bad at all. The future of the Qingshan Team depends on these kids. They are the hope for the team’s future. If they study this hard now, they’ll come back and help build up our home.’
Meanwhile, Aunt Leng was still gathering people she knew, planning to go complain to the team leader together. If the team leader wouldn’t do anything about it, she would go to the county.
A few of the children saw Aunt Leng and her group, and their eyes lit up. They walked closer and took a careful count. ’Holy cow, there are about twenty of them!’
One of the older kids was the first to speak. "Don’t rush, you guys. Let’s divide up the work so we don’t get things mixed up."
After dividing up their assignments, the children began to write furiously.
Relying on her relationships with these people and her own silver tongue, Aunt Leng successfully pulled them into her camp. Just as she had gotten them to agree, she saw several children huddled nearby, writing something.
Aunt Leng roughly shoved the children aside.
"Go on, go on. If you have to do homework, do it somewhere else. Don’t stand here and get in the way of the adults."
The children glanced at Aunt Leng, then quickly ran away.
And just like that, in only half a day, a record was made of everyone in the team who had spoken ill of Gu Jiaojiao and Leng Yuan. The time, the place, who said what—it was all recorded with perfect clarity.
Sweet Girl was very satisfied with the results. As promised, she handed out the candy.
Some of the reports were duplicates, which Sweet Girl filtered out. She did her best to be fair and make sure every child got some candy.
There were quite a few people working over at Leng Yuan’s house.
The team leader arranged for lunch to be prepared and delivered. They were eating food from the team’s stores; after all, since they were working for the team, the team had to provide their meals.
Since someone was already cooking, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t want to make a show of cooking a separate meal for herself, so she ate with everyone else.
When Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang returned, they also ate the prepared meal.
The two children’s lives had become very comfortable since they started living with Gu Jiaojiao. While they might not have had meat with every single meal, they still ate it every day. As a result, they were no longer particularly excited by the small bits of meat in their food.
Even though the food couldn’t compare to Gu Jiaojiao’s cooking in any way, the two of them ate every last bite, leaving nothing behind.
Having known hardship, they understood just how precious food was; every single grain of rice could help fill a stomach.
Seeing the two children scrape their bowls clean, leaving not a single grain of rice behind, Gu Jiaojiao was very satisfied.
