Chapter 1011: Chapter 1011: Sudden Calamity

"Uncle, regardless of who we are, we can assure you we mean no harm, so, Uncle, could you first tell us what exactly happened here? Why does the whole town look so... strange?" Han Jing felt that Su Yu’s identity would be hard to keep secret, but since they had already asked, they couldn’t just leave without finding out what happened here.

The uncle seemed to struggle a bit, and after a while, he sighed: "Well, it’s fine to tell you. The thing is, our Xia Gui Island has never had a flourishing lineage. The Island Master is the sole bloodline of the Ancient Divine Clan Xia Clan, which is connected to... well, to those above. However, the Xia family has a single line of succession; the Island Master has only had one daughter in three hundred years. She’s only sixteen and has been treasured like a pearl, yet tragedy struck unexpectedly."

"Alas," the uncle sighed here, hesitated for a moment, then continued: "Three months ago, the young Miss went out and encountered a dispute in the street. Out of goodwill, she tried to dissuade them, but those two feuding businesses were so embroiled in their argument that they couldn’t hear reason. The young Miss has someone she cares for, who knew of her heart condition and feared she couldn’t handle it, so he sent someone to escort her back while he handled the matter himself. As fate would have it, he hit a snag, and Young Master Su was injured, failing to mediate the issue."

"This wouldn’t have been a major issue, but it so happened to involve the young Miss, and thus, calamity ensued. Young Master Su returned injured and was improbably met by the young Miss, who was terribly anxious and wanted to find the Island Master to summon help for Young Master Su’s injuries. However, the Island Master never thought highly of Young Master Su, dismissing him by saying with such lack of skill, he might as well let him die."

"It’s said the Island Master’s words were overheard by Young Master Su, who being a person of pride, stormed off. The young Miss caught up to explain, and somehow, the two began to argue. The young Miss had a relapse of her heart condition, couldn’t withstand it, and just passed away like that."

"The Island Master’s cherished only daughter passed so suddenly, not only the Island Master but even those on the island who watched the young Miss grow couldn’t accept the reality. After all, the young Miss was truly a kind-hearted girl. You could only say... heaven is unpredictable. Alas!"

At this point, Han Jing couldn’t help but ask: "And... what happened then?"

"In his fury, the Island Master imprisoned Young Master Su in the dungeon, then sent men to kill the traders involved in the street quarrel, implicating many innocent souls. Originally peaceful Xia Gui Island turned into a river of blood overnight; who would dare conduct business here? For the past few months, everyone has been overly cautious, fearing the ignition of further calamity, and now the Island Master’s Mansion is in complete chaos." The uncle shook his head, speaking as if it truly was a disaster; who could have foreseen how everything aligned so disastrously, or anticipated the sudden passing of the young Miss, who died without even a chance for rescue?

The Island Master’s loss of his only beloved daughter led him to lose his rationality, understandably, yet those innocent ones caught in the chaos also had their grievances with nowhere to voice them.

Thus, the entire Xia Gui Island now seems shrouded in gloom; no matter how bright the sun or fragrant the flowers, they cannot mask the scent of blood!
