Chapter 1009: Chapter 1009: The Eerie City

Han Jing...

"Let’s go, we’ll know once we arrive." Su Yu, as the Clan Leader of the Xia Clan, couldn’t be certain whether it would be a blessing or a curse that they’ve arrived here, if this truly was the territory of the Xia Clan.

But whether it is a blessing or a curse, it’s unavoidable.

Since they were here, they must look around before leaving.

Just like the previous Guan Mountain Island, this island remained truly vast and sparsely populated. Perhaps the whole of the Futu Realm’s islands were like this, with vast lands and few people.

Even though it has a history of nearly five thousand years, at first, the number of people brought to the Futu Realm wasn’t many, so it was probably quite difficult for it to develop to its present state.

When they got closer to the city, Han Jing and the others discovered that it indeed resembled the Xia Clan significantly, but compared to the Xia Clan, it seemed to lack a certain grandeur.

The buildings were not as perfect and majestic as those of the Xia Clan.

To avoid the haplessness of being immediately identified as outsiders like on Guan Mountain Island, Han Jing and the others donned some disguises. Yet, while their appearances could be concealed, their eyes could not be hidden, thus Su Yu, Xiao Xue, and Lianwu’s abnormal eyes were still rather conspicuous.

They could only keep as low a profile as possible to avoid being easily spotted.

What surprised them, however, was the somber atmosphere they felt upon entering the city and reaching the main street.

Forget the bustling marketplace like on Guan Mountain Island; here, the streets were almost empty. The few people passing by were hastily walking with their heads lowered, looking very cautious, as if... afraid of provoking something.

It was very strange.

If it were just one or two people, it wouldn’t be noticed easily, but Han Jing and the others walked through two streets, all in the same condition, which made them very puzzled.

Initially, they wanted to ask someone for information, but seeing everyone’s very cautious demeanor, they didn’t dare to inquire recklessly.

"Let’s find a guesthouse to settle down first. With the current situation, it’s not convenient to investigate matters," Su Yu suggested.

Everyone agreed and began searching for a guesthouse along the street. After walking for another street, they finally saw the signs of clustered merchants, yet the people on the street still hurried about, and no one was visiting any shops.

Han Jing and the others instinctively felt something was off, and it was more so when they passed by a tavern.

They arrived in the city close to the Wu hour, the time when taverns should be at their busiest, yet the tavern’s doors were shut tight, with no sign of activity inside.

The Xia Clan’s buildings had some Western Regions’ style, and many taverns had visible second floors at a glance. When they were in the Xia Clan, the tavern’s second floors had open tables and chairs, and here they could see as well, but there were no guests.

Not even one.

No one in the shops, no one in the taverns, so naturally, when they finally found a guesthouse, it too had its doors tightly shut, not open for business at all.

"Shall we... go in?" Han Jing looked up at the tightly shut guesthouse doors, puzzled by the situation, she turned to Su Yu and asked, "Do you remember if the Xia Clan has any special occasions where they don’t open for business?"

Su Yu responded straightforwardly, "None."
