The Dawn of the New World

Chapter 787 - Negative

Hao Xuan watched on for a few minutes. This had been the longest any scene was shown to him. Yet he could not figure out the reason behind it.

'But why...is he important? He is just a mortal. Why are you showing me this?' he sent out the thought but did not get an answer.

'Or is it not who he is, but what he is doing that's important? Do you want me to help your people? Is that it?'

*ZzZzzZz*

A low hum sounded within Hao Xuan's mind in response to the query but he couldn't understand what it meant.

'I don't understand, I can't hear what you're trying to say!'

It felt like he was on a different frequency than the person or entity that was showing him all this. As if each of them was on the other side of a glass wall where they could see or in this case 'sense' each other's presence in a way but not talk directly.

'Can you tell me who you are? Or where?'

Having been basically connected to this entity for such an extended period of time, he was able to discern and ascertain a few things for himself.

1. The entity that was showing him all this did not mean him any harm, at least not directly. There were no negative emotions involved aimed at him throughout this communiqué.

2. It was trying to tell him something very specific throughout but could not relay it properly.

3. It was "inexperienced" and quite new to all this. Hao Xuan didn't know how exactly he knew that but he could tell very clearly. The indistinguishable aura of innocence and naivety was exuding from every thought that reached him.

The scene finally changed and it went back to the Barbarian settlement, the Yurt in which the princesses and the rest of them were.

Hao Xuan examined the scene down with a deep frown, 'Are you one of them?'

*ZZZZ*

A strong no.

'Then...what? Can one of them lead me back to you?'

*zzzz*

A much softer vibration that didn't want to split his head open came in response.

'So that's a yes then. Who is it specifically? Just tell me the side. Is it the barbarians?'

*ZZZZZ*

'Alright, demihumans it is. I will come find you soon then. I know there are a few things you wanted to show me but couldn't for whatever reason, I hope we can-'

Before he could finish the world went blank as he was pulled away and thrust back into his body. Hao Xuan opened his eyes whilst still floating on water, wherever he was.

He examined his body the moment he came to and let out a breath of relief upon finding that everything had returned to normal.

"Baracus, what happened?" he swiftly inquired.

*Beep*

"There was extremely reactive fluid that you came into contact with. It did quite a number on you."

Hao Xuan's brow knit together as he swam to the shore.

"It did quite a number on me? That's a pretty weird way to put it."

"My algorithm is always trying to mimic your speech pattern to sound as human as possible. But if you find it odd I can go back to-"

"No no, that's fine. It does make it easier to talk to but be more exact when you answer."

"I understand. To answer your question, the fluid that you came into contact with activated a series of dormant gene sequences that otherwise would never awaken. This triggered a chain reaction within your bloodline that resulted in the undesired physical changes."

"There are no mentions of anything remotely similar in my internal records. It would be of tremendous help if you could acquire a sample to be studied at a later date. It could prove instrumental in unlocking the secrets within the organic DNA and perhaps even help acquire more than one bloodline abilities without processing the said bloodline."

Hearing Baracus's request and what it could mean for him, Hao Xuan could not help but be more than a little skeptical.

"Are you sure? Is her blood really that unique?"

"Affirmative. I have never seen such a unique genetic structure before. There is no telling what else could be done once its secrets are unlocked. On its own, the blood does not do much but when combined with other bloodlines, it- It is invaluable in its applications."

Hao Xuan's mind raced with a myriad of thoughts.

'Is that why she is running from someone? It would explain a lot but right now, I have to get back to them first.'

Hao Xuan got up to his feet ready to depart when his nose twitched. He sniffed the air around him, "Baracus, did someone else come around when I was unconscious?"

"....Negative."

"Hmm, that's weird. I can definitely smell a familiar scent.....was it before I came here?"
