"I don’t know you! All I know is you’re the thief intruding into the master’s courtyard!" The man’s voice was quite loud, glaring at the Prince as he spoke.

Prince Kang’s brow throbbed with veins; he figured this servant must have been hired by the Princess herself. Why did the Princess hire such a fool, he wondered!

"This is Prince Kang." Finally, a maid appeared who recognized the Prince and said to the servant, "You can leave now."

"Alright." The man readily agreed, took a couple of steps, then stopped and quietly said to the maid, "But sister Xia He, even if he’s the Prince, he shouldn’t be climbing over walls and sneaking in."

The man thought he was whispering, but he forgot his naturally loud voice, so even the housekeeper on the other side of the wall heard him.

Xia He stifled a laugh and waved the man off: "Alright, you hurry along now, go quickly."

"Sure thing." The man nodded and briskly walked away.

Prince Kang’s face turned a shade of blue with anger as he asked the maid, "Xia He, where did the Princess buy this fool from?"

"Yes, Prince, this person is a bit foolish, so please, Prince, don’t take offense with a fool." Xia He said, bowing in respect.

Prince Kang was at a loss for words. What could he say? Claim that he wouldn’t, that he would take offense at a fool? Wouldn’t that make him the fool then? Say that this person is not a fool and punish him? But he had just asked where the Princess bought the fool, could he immediately contradict himself? Wouldn’t that cost him his dignity?

Forget it, better not to squabble with a fool.

"Where is the Princess?" Prince Kang asked Xia He, feeling a bit unlucky.

"The Princess is not in the residence." Xia He replied.

"Not in the residence? Where did she go?" Prince Kang asked with a frown.

"I don’t know, the Princess wouldn’t inform us servants of her whereabouts." Xia He answered with a smile.

Prince Kang felt that the maid’s response was somewhat sarcastic, but was it just his imagination?

"Then when will the Princess return?" Prince Kang asked again.

"I still don’t know." Xia He shook her head.

"I’ll come to see her tonight." Prince Kang turned to leave, but when he saw the ladder, his lips twitched, and he turned back to Xia He, "Forget it, I’ll just wait here for her to come back."

After speaking, Prince Kang made his way familiarly to the Princess’s bedroom. As he reached what used to be the location of her bedroom, he found, well, the bedroom was gone and replaced with a woodshed.

"What is going on here?" Prince Kang turned and asked Xia He.

"The Princess had the residence rebuilt." Xia He answered.

"Rebuilt?" Prince Kang looked at Xia He in astonishment, "Why rebuild it?"

"This servant does not know." Xia He still pleaded ignorance to everything.

"Fine, take me to the Princess’s bedroom then." Prince Kang waved his hand in resignation.

Xia He nodded and turned to lead the way, but before they took a few steps, they heard some commotion outside.

"The Princess has returned." Xia He said.

"Oh, lead me over to her." Prince Kang said.

Xia He led Prince Kang finally to the front of the Princess’s bedroom, where two maids stood guard. Prince Kang did not recognize these two maids, evidently, they were also newly hired by the Princess.

"This is Prince Kang, greet the Prince." Xia He said to the two maids.

"Greetings, Prince." The two maids curtsied.

"You may all leave now." Prince Kang waved his hand, signaling for the two maids and Xia He to depart.

However, neither the two maids nor Xia He moved.

Prince Kang’s hand, originally reaching for the door, halted in mid-air. He frowned at the three maids, "What, do you not understand? I told you to leave."
