The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign
Chapter 377 The Colosseum Arena
ROOOOAAAR!
The terrifying roar of the Void Behemoth shook the very foundations of the Shadow World. The creature’s massive, interlocking black plates absorbed the ambient light, making it look like a living tear in reality. Its singular, dark purple horn blazed with spatial rule power, warping the air around it.
Across the crater, the six-headed shadow hydra hissed, its sickly green scales dripping with corrosive venom that melted the black stone beneath it.
BAM!
The Behemoth moved. Its spatial rule power flared, and it didn’t run—it folded space, reappearing directly in front of the hydra. The purple horn thrust forward like a divine spear, aiming for the hydra’s central neck.
HISS!
The hydra’s middle head opened its maw, unleashing a torrent of pitch-black fire. The flames crashed against the Behemoth’s spatial barrier, rippling across its void-like armor.
CRASH! BOOM!
The valley of dark crystal shattered as the two titans collided.
The Hydra’s six heads snapped upward, each one a colossal engine of destruction. One head unleashed a torrent of crimson fire, another spat a wave of corrosive green poison, and a third exhaled a blinding bolt of lightning. The remaining heads bombarded the Behemoth with cutting wind, crushing darkness, and a devastating soul-piercing screech.
BZZZT! CRUNCH!
The Behemoth’s spatial barrier flared, shattering the elemental barrage, but the sheer force pushed it back. It slammed into the ground, creating a crater fifty meters wide.
The Hydra wasn’t unscathed. The spatial backlash had torn deep gashes into its translucent green scales. HISS! Black ichor sprayed from its wounds.
The Behemoth, seeing its own injuries, let out a guttural growl. It opened its massive maw and inhaled sharply. WHOOSH! The souls of the lesser shadow beasts that had died in the crossfire—dozens of shadow wolves, arachids, and wyverns—were ripped from their corpses, funneling directly into the Behemoth’s throat.
ROOOAAAR!
The absorbed souls boosted its vitality. Its torn flesh knitted itself back together, and its aura surged, matching the Hydra’s overwhelming physical power.
Seeing its advantage fading, the Hydra lunged. Its six heads struck like vipers. SQUELCH! Two of its heads clamped down on the Behemoth’s front and hind legs, injecting a devastating, necrotic poison into its veins. Another head snapped forward, its jaws locking onto the Behemoth’s shoulder, and with a brutal, sickening RIIIP, it tore one of the Behemoth’s legs clean off.
"SKREEEEE!" The Behemoth’s scream of agony shattered the surrounding crystal.
In a desperate counterattack, the Behemoth’s horn flared with a dark, violet light. It unleashed a devastating dark energy beam from its mouth, striking the Hydra squarely in the chest. BOOM! The Hydra was blasted backward, two of its heads obliterated into a fine mist of blood and shadow.
The Behemoth didn’t wait to see if the Hydra would recover. It turned, its massive wings beating desperately, and tore a spatial rift, fleeing into the sky.
High above on the ridge, Kael watched the fleeing beast, his eyes gleaming watching the display of power.
The beasts in the universe were graded based on their ancestral lineage and bloodline density.
The first two classes—mortal beasts and spirit beasts—had little to no intelligence, driven purely by instinct.
The third class, Lord Beasts, possessed intelligence and were territorial. This category included the lesser beast clans of the material world, whose ancestors had reached the Supreme Realm. Drakes, leviathans, and wyverns fell into this class.
The fourth class were Emperor Beasts. These creatures possessed royal bloodlines and ancient memories, their ancestors having reached the Celestial Ascension Realm or above. The royal beast clans of the material world—the Foxes, the Lions, the Kirin—belonged to this class.
The fifth class were the Mythical Class Beasts, like the four mythical beast clans: the Dragon Clan, the Fire Phoenix, the White Tiger, and the Black Tortoise. There were others too, like the Behemoth Class and the Devourer Class.
Kael’s gaze locked onto the fleeing Void Behemoth. That thing is an Emperor Class beast. It has the potential to reach the Mythical class.
WHOOSH! Kael shot forward in his soul projection, chasing the beast into the depths of the Shadow World. The hydra had incredible regeneration and taming it will be much more difficult than taming the severely injured behemoth.
The Behemoth was incredibly fast. Every flap of its leathery wings tore through space, making it look like it was teleporting. Kael pushed his newly expanded 250-meter soul sense to its absolute limit. He couldn’t see it with his eyes, but he could track the spatial ripples left in its wake.
FWOOSH! Kael barely dodged a collapsing spatial rift. ZAP! He pushed his soul power, locking onto the beast’s fading signature.
Kael followed the trail of spatial ripples through the shadowy landscape, passing ancient ruins and skeletal forests, until he arrived at a massive, yawning chasm in the earth.
After an hour of relentless pursuit, Kael arrived at the Behemoth’s hideout. It was a massive, hollowed-out asteroid suspended in the void of the Shadow World. The interior was a nest of shattered bones and the remnants of forgotten spatial rifts. It was a sanctuary for a wounded apex predator. A dense, purple mist filled the air, radiating pure spatial energy. At the center lay the Behemoth, its massive chest heaving as it licked its wounds. Its missing leg was slowly regenerating, the bone and muscle knitting back together.
Kael landed softly in front of the beast.
The Behemoth’s crimson eyes snapped open. Despite its injuries—its missing leg, the necrotic poison eating at its flesh—it sensed the presence of a soul that didn’t belong. It roared, a sound of pure, unadulterated rage, and lunged at Kael.
Kael didn’t flinch. He reached out, his soul projection’s hand touching the beast’s massive, cold forehead.
WHOOSH!
The world around them dissolved as a blinding flash of dark light erupted. The world around them twisted, and both Kael and the Behemoth were pulled into a mysterious, boundless dark space.
The Behemoth stumbled, disoriented, as the dark, jagged asteroid faded away, replaced by an endless, sterile expanse of absolute darkness. It was an endless, flat plane of polished black stone, illuminated by a swirling nebula of purple and silver stars above.
Kael stood a few meters away, his arms crossed, a cold smile on his face as void core activated as the core floated in front of his chest as dark mana poured into it.
This was the Sovereign’s Colosseum. A sub-space created by the system as a gateway to taming the beasts summoned from the shadow world.
The Behemoth looked around, confused. It then turned its massive head toward Kael. Its crimson eyes burned with fury, and it lunged.
BZZZT!
But the moment it moved, a terrifying, invisible pressure descended upon it.
"SKREEEE!" The Behemoth screamed.
Its massive aura, which had previously radiated the strength of an Early Origin Realm Rank 6, was violently crushed. The spatial energy around its horn fizzled out. The invisible laws of the Colosseum stripped away its power, suppressing its cultivation all the way down to the Origin Realm Rank 1.
Its massive body was forced to the ground, its muscles trembling under the weight of the suppression. Its rule power was completely sealed.
[Sovereign’s Colosseum activated.]
[Target: Abyssal Void Behemoth (Emperor Class)]
[Power Suppression: Origin Rank 6 → Origin Rank 1]
[Rule Power Suppression: Active]
The Behemoth roared in absolute fury, its crimson eyes glaring at Kael with a mix of hatred and confusion. It couldn’t understand how a mere Spirit Soul Rank 5 ant had brought it to its knees.
Kael walked toward the beast as void core entered into his chest and his two intents blazed around him as he summoned his two shadow slayer blades.
"Don’t look at me like that," Kael said, his voice cold and commanding. "In this space, I am the absolute law. You will either bow to me, or I will break you piece by piece."
