Chapter 587 - Gewen And Kira Talk About Kira's Friend
Gewen brushed off his annoyance and explained to Kira the reason why he was in Summeria. Of course, he didn't tell her EVERYTHING, just enough to describe the nature of his mission.
"So... my friend and his wife got into a misunderstanding and he sent me to come here and talk to his wife, to clear his name," Gewen puffed up his chest. "He knew that women listen to me because they trust me and like me."
"Oh, is that so?" Kira wanted to roll her eyes at Gewen's words, but she held back.
She thought this man had helped her make the stretcher to bring her wolves to Castilse. She could at least be polite to him. Kira remembered her etiquette teacher taught her that women from noble families should be polite at all times.
."Yeah, it's true," Gewen said proudly.
"Why don't your friend come here in person and talk to his wife? Is he mute?" Kira asked. "If he loves her, he should have made the effort."
"Ahem.. actually, he wanted to come here, very badly." Gewen sighed. "Unfortunately, he couldn't do that. They have a small baby at home. So, he cannot leave her behind. You know how far it is from Draec to Summeria."
"Ah.. that makes sense," Kira nodded. "I can imagine how he feels about leaving the baby. My friend also has a young baby, a daughter. She cried every day because she was missing her baby."
"Oh... what happened to her?" Gewen asked curiously. "Did she and her baby get separated? Or... did the baby die?"
"They got separated." Kira shrugged. "I think her husband is a scum. She had to leave her baby behind and flee for her life because her husband wanted her dead."
"Oh no...! That's really awful..." Gewen looked sympathetic. "Is she okay now?"
"Of course, not," Kira replied. "Didn't I tell you she cried every day?"
"Ah.. that's right. I forgot." Gewen rubbed his hair. He felt sorry for Kira's friend who seemed to suffer so much. "Hmm... by the way, did you say your friend is from Draec?"
"No, no. Her husband is from Draec, while she is from Wintermere."
"Oh..." Gewen's eyes bulged when he heard the familiar kingdom names. "Her husband is from Draec??"
"Yes."
"Where in Draec?" Gewen asked again.
"The capital."
"The capital...? You mean 'Kingstown'?"
"Yes."
"And you said, her husband wanted her dead?" Gewen furrowed his brows when he saw Kira nod. He asked again, "What happened?"
"I am not entirely sure of what happened, but her husband is definitely a scum. He chased her away from home and wanted her dead, so she fled the country. Fortunately, she met another man who is awesome and treats her well. I hope they will get married soon so she could finally get her happily ever after," Kira let out a long sigh and then added, "I just feel sad for her because she couldn't get her daughter back."
"...." Gewen gasped when he heard Kira's explanation. He pulled the reins and halted his horse. Then, he looked at Kira seriously. "Wait a minute..."
"Huh? Why are you stopping?" Kira halted her horse too and narrowed her eyes at Gewen. "Is anything the matter?"
Gewen's eyes lit up. "If your friend's husband is in Kingstown, maybe I can help your friend get her daughter back."
"Huh? You can?" Kira furrowed her brows.
"Yes. I am from Kingstown and if you tell me the name of your friend's scummy husband, I will come to him once I return home and teach him a lesson. I will help your friend get her daughter back." Gewen puffed up his chest.
He was friends with the king of Draec, so he was very confident that he could find anyone who have wronged Kira's friend and punish him accordingly.
Gewen hoped this would put him in Kira's good book since she seemed to really care about her friend.
"Huh? How would you teach her husband a lesson? From what I've heard, he is quite a powerful man," Kira said. "Even I would think twice to mess with him."
"Well, I am very well connected in Draec, actually," Gewen insisted. "I am friends with a very important person there. Even if your friend's husband is powerful, I am sure he wouldn't be able to beat my friend's influence."
Kira burst out laughing when she heard Gewen's confident words. She thought this guy was really dumb.
Emmelyn's husband was the king of Draec. Who could be more powerful than him?
Kira felt sorry for Gewen who naively boasted his connection. He must think his friend's influence was enough. This pitiful man didn't know Kira's friend was not just an ordinary woman who married an ordinary man.
"Why are you laughing? Did I say something wrong?" Gewen pursed his lips.
Kira waved her hands and tried to hold back her laughter. "It's okay. It's no big deal. Let's not talk about my friend again. We almost reach my destination."
She pointed at a small shop to their right. Gewen couldn't read the sign but he assumed it was the coat maker.
Uff, where did time go? He was enjoying his chat with Kira and suddenly they had arrived at their destination? He wanted to spend more time with her.
"Is that the place?" Gewen asked with a disappointed expression.
"Yeah." Kira motioned him to move faster. "The shop is almost closed. Let's go there while it's still open."
Gewen could only comply. He followed Kira to the shop and helped her unload the wolves' carcasses from their stretchers. A fat man with dark skin came out from the shop and talked to Kira. His face looked excited to see so many wolves with great quality fur in his shop.
The shop owner and Kira talked about the details and then they shook hands. It was fast and easy.
"He will make three coats from the six wolves," Kira told Gewen after they left the shop. "I will give one to you if you are still around in two weeks."
"Huh?" Gewen couldn't believe his own hearing. "You... want to give a fur coat to me?"
"Yeah. I don't need many. One is enough for me. The guy could make three. So, I plan to gift the second fur coat to my friend," Kira replied nonchalantly. "I can either throw away the third one or donate it to you."
Gewen didn't know if he would still be alive in two weeks, but if he was, he would want to see Kira again.
So, he lied and said, "Yes, I will be around. So, please keep one coat for me."
Kira nodded. "Very well. You can have the third one."
"Thank you!" Gewen smiled broadly. "Where do you want to go now?"
"I want to go home," Kira replied. "I want to rest after a long and tiring day."
"Oh, okay. Hm.. where do you stay?" Gewen asked. "As a gentleman, it is my duty to make sure a lady reaches her home safely."
"Ah... you don't need to. I am staying somewhere nearby." Kira was flattered to hear Gewen said he wanted to make sure she, a lady, reach her home safely. She said, "It's probably the safest place in this country."
"Oh.. where is it?"
"In the royal palace."
