Chapter 68: Chapter 68: The Innocent Beast Is About to Get Beaten Again

When Lu Wu set out, Qin Zhan and Lou Xiaotian had to follow. Jiang Yunhe thought for a moment and decided to hitch a ride on Qin Zhan’s Flying Sword.

A peculiar scene unfolded within the Secret Realm.

Humans flew through the sky while beasts gave chase on the ground.

Communicating with humans was difficult for the group of demon beasts. They thought Lu Wu was trying to run away, and they wouldn’t stand for it.

After all, the fire poison in this Secret Realm was excruciating for them as well.

They were tormented by the fire poison year-round. If they hadn’t actively adapted their bodies, they would have died long ago.

Now, a human had appeared who could save them and even feed them delicious ice powder. How could they possibly let this human leave?

The demon beasts were all of one mind, chasing after her relentlessly.

To any uninformed Cultivator, it would have looked as if those humans had somehow offended this horde of demon beasts.

But having seen what happened before, the other Cultivators watched this scene calmly.

They didn’t give chase, choosing instead to continue exploring other areas.

’With a horde of beasts swarming her, even if Boss Lu is heading for some great opportunity, it’s not like we’d get a piece of the pie. Better to go our own way. It’s for the best.’

"Huohuo, where are you taking me?"

The Demon Clan had plants, too.

The unique environment of the Fire Secret Realm meant that not many Spirit Fruits could grow there.

Some Spirit Fruit Trees had even gained sentience. In order to better survive and propagate, their fruits had adapted to the environment, making most of them inedible.

Such fruits were not Lu Wu’s target.

"CHIRP!"

’Don’t worry, human. This beast understands you.’

Huohuo, determined to be the most considerate little beast a human could ask for, led Lu Wu to a faraway place.

"This is the way to the outer region," Jiang Yunhe recognized.

Standing on Qin Zhan’s Flying Sword, he had enough leisure to survey their surroundings.

"Can’t you fly on your own?"

’A Nascent Soul Stage Cultivator acting weak in front of me? How absurd!’

"I’m afraid of heights. My legs get weak."

Jiang Yunhe’s excuse was so half-hearted that Qin Zhan felt a strong urge to throw him off.

Lou Xiaotian, meanwhile, was very close to the Gale Eagle. He reached out several times, wanting to pet it, but the eagle, despite seemingly not looking back, managed to precisely dodge Lou Xiaotian’s opportunistic hand every single time.

"SCREECH!"

’A beast has its honor! A beast will absolutely not let a human sully it!’

’Boss Lu is an exception, of course.’

...

In the outermost region of the Secret Realm, Xiao Hua was with her newfound companions, fanning herself with a gloomy expression.

They had set up a temporary camp there, using a large number of Ice Attribute Spirit Stones to keep the temperature at a level humans could tolerate.

For newly awakened Cultivators like them, it was still quite uncomfortable.

The stuffy, dry air made Xiao Hua clutch her chest, feeling a bit suffocated.

She opened her mouth to gasp for air, trying to feel better, but when she looked up, she saw a demon beast approaching.

"Heavens, what a huge bird!" one of her companions exclaimed, referring to the Gale Eagle.

Huohuo was currently perched on Lu Wu’s head and went unnoticed.

"Everyone, be on alert! Demon beast attack! Demon beast attack! Prepare for battle!"

Many of the Cultivators immediately drew their weapons, their expressions grave as they watched the Gale Eagle.

A Nascent Soul Stage demon beast should, by all rights, only be in the inner region. Why would it appear here? The strongest Cultivator left to guard this area was only at the Golden Core Stage. Dealing with a Nascent Soul Stage demon beast would be incredibly difficult.

But no matter how difficult, they couldn’t retreat.

The children here were the future pillars of their Sects; not a single one could be lost.

"Children, get behind us."

Seeing the Gale Eagle descending, the Cultivators tightened their grip on their weapons.

One after another, blasts of Spiritual Power transformed into sharp blades, striking at the Gale Eagle in the sky.

"SCREECH!"

’Humans are so unreasonable! What did this beast do wrong to get beaten up again!’

Lu Wu could somehow hear the aggrieved cry of a wronged child coming from the majestic eagle.

"Ahem, I’ll handle this."

Qin Zhan saw that the most ferocious attacks were coming from the disciples of the Holy Sword Sect. He rubbed his nose, waved his hand to block all the attacks, and quickly descended to the ground.

"Hold your fire! They’re one of us."

It turned out that a plant-type Demon Clan called the Jumping Fruit grew in this outer region. This Demon Clan was highly resilient, naturally loved the heat, and was quite prolific—enough to supply Lu Wu’s needs.

They were just passing through, but since they had already been spotted, Lu Wu and the others decided to come down and say hello.

It wasn’t as if they had a choice.

After all, the massive cloud of dust kicked up by the hundreds of beasts stampeding on the ground was already visible to the naked eye.

No matter how you looked at it, it was a beast tide on the attack.

It took Qin Zhan stepping forward and offering multiple assurances before they could barely convince everyone that they were truly... just passing through.

"Ms. Lu."

Xiao Hua recognized Lu Wu and ran over happily, calling out to her.

"It’s me."

Lu Wu touched Xiao Hua’s flushed cheeks, then looked at the other children. All of them had red faces and were breathing rapidly.

Even in the outermost region, it wasn’t easy for these children.

"Wait for me here."

Lu Wu headed for the place where the Jumping Fruit clan lived.

It was a rocky mountain. She didn’t see any fruit trees, but she did see reddish-brown vines crawling all over the cliff face.

They intertwined and tangled together, covering the mountain’s surface.

Their leaves rustled in the wind.

And this was the Jumping Fruit clan.

Their true bodies were these vines. At Huohuo’s arrival, thousands of vines began to retract.

This revealed the fruits hidden beneath their leaves.

One by one, they appeared, each about the size of a fingernail.

The purplish-red fruits looked highly poisonous no matter how you looked at them.

"These fruits are poisonous."

Jiang Yunhe’s words confirmed Lu Wu’s suspicion.

"CHIRP?"

Huohuo didn’t understand. In its eyes, these toxins were just a bit of seasoning, not worth mentioning.

Huohuo pecked at Lu Wu’s palm, then spat out a mouthful of golden-red flame.

"You mean, my flame can remove the toxins?"

CHIRP!

’As expected of the human I chose. So smart.’

"I’ll give it a try, then."

Lu Wu smoothed Huohuo’s feathers, then picked up a fruit and summoned her Glazed Fire.

’It’s true high-temperature sterilization.’

’So the Green Origin Realm follows scientific principles too.’

The pure appearance of this flame was enough to captivate anyone’s heart.

This was especially true for Jiang Yunhe, who dealt with Spiritual Fire for alchemy. He recognized its value at a glance.

He only looked, though.

A flame that was harmless to Lu Wu might not be so for him.

Following Lu Wu’s will, the flame roasted the fruit. Some black ash floated up from the Jumping Fruit, whose skin remained completely intact.

Those were the toxins from the Jumping Fruit.

"It’s edible now," Jiang Yunhe confirmed after inspecting it.

Lu Wu immediately popped it into her mouth and took a few bites. Her teeth paused, and she narrowed her eyes, a cunning glint appearing in them.

"How is it? Is it good?" Qin Zhan asked curiously.

"Delicious."

Lu Wu maintained a dignified smile and tossed a few to Qin Zhan.

Without any suspicion, Qin Zhan ate one without a second thought. After a few chews, his smile widened even more.

"It really is good. Here, you guys try some too."

He passed the rest to Jiang Yunhe. After eating one, Jiang Yunhe naturally passed what was left to Lou Xiaotian.

"HISS!"

"PTOOEY, PTOOEY, PTOOEY!"

The moment it entered his mouth, Lou Xiaotian’s expression changed.

’I was so naive.’

’I thought of you as brothers, but you treat your brother like an idiot.’

’Delicious?’

’This thing is so sour my teeth are about to fall out!’

"PFFT!"

Lu Wu burst out laughing, rubbing her own aching cheeks with schadenfreude.

’Inflicting ten thousand damage on the enemy at the cost of eight thousand to myself,’ she mused, ’is its own brand of fun.’
