Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Life-taking Poison Master: Poison on Top of Poison

The moment Dahuang peacefully closed his eyes, Lu Wu saw the looks of fearful awe from the people around her.

Those gazes seemed to say, ’How vicious can a person be? To add even more poison to a dying dog... That’s just beyond cruel.’

For a moment, Lu Wu was speechless.

"Come on, wake up."

Beneath her hand, Dahuang’s body was still rising and falling, much more forcefully than before.

’Are those people blind? Can’t they see whether this dog is dead or not?’

She could only cheer Dahuang on in her heart, hoping he would wake up quickly and clear her name.

Perhaps Lu Wu’s prayers worked, because the close-eyed Dahuang was once again tempted by the mortal world.

He didn’t quite understand. How could he still smell the worldly aroma of meat after dying? ’Could it be that Hell also has someone as outstanding as Boss Lu?’

Amidst the endless aroma of meat, Dahuang opened his eyes.

The moment his big, doggy eyes opened, he saw Lu Wu’s delighted face.

"Woof woof woof?"

’Boss Lu, how did you die too?’

"WOOF WOOF WOOF!"

’Don’t worry, Boss Lu! Even in Hell, I, Gou Aotian, will be your most loyal dog!’

A few barks later, and though Lu Wu didn’t understand dog language, she somehow understood the sentiment.

But, ’that’s really not necessary’.

"You’re not dead yet,"

she said, motioning for Dahuang to look around.

At Dahuang’s awakening, the eyes of the crowd, who had seen Lu Wu as a Life-taking Poison Master, suddenly widened.

When Dahuang had emerged from the valley earlier, anyone with eyes could see he didn’t have long to live.

And that sort of situation was normal at the Valley of Ten Thousand Poisons.

The poisonous creatures inside could claim a life at any moment, to say nothing of a weak demon beast.

They had all been waiting for Dahuang to die, but not only did the dog-that-should-have-died survive, he was now hopping and jumping about.

That’s right, Dahuang was now running in circles to let it all out.

He couldn’t believe it himself. After kicking up his paws and running a joyous lap, he found that the poison that had been corroding his body was disappearing.

The burning sensation had also lessened significantly.

’He, Dahuang... No, he, Gou Aotian, was back!’

"WOOF WOOF WOOF!"

’Boss Lu, you’re such a good person!’

’From now on, I’m your dog. Don’t even think about getting rid of me!’

Gou Aotian excitedly circled Lu Wu, barking.

Lu Wu, who was somehow on the same wavelength, felt the corner of her mouth twitch.

’Am I being scammed by a dog?’

"Ahem."

"Here, have some pork knuckle."

Catching the crowd’s baffled stares out of the corner of her eye, Lu Wu pressed her lips together to hide a smile. As Dahuang watched expectantly, she lifted a large pork knuckle from the pot, broke off half, and placed it in front of him.

"If I can’t sell it, the rest is all yours."

Lu Wu was adamant about not selling day-old food.

If the pork knuckles didn’t sell by the end of the day, she might as well give them to Dahuang to gnaw on.

Seeing the person in the shade still lying there like a corpse, Lu Wu resentfully took a pork knuckle and began to gnaw on it along with Dahuang.

And damn, it was good.

The aroma easily stirred one’s appetite.

In the Valley of Ten Thousand Poisons, unless you were incredibly powerful, just ensuring your own safety was a full-time job. There was no time to indulge in gourmet pleasures.

The fragrance of this pork knuckle was simply intoxicating.

"Fuck, my mouth’s watering so much it’s gonna run dry."

"This is just too much!"

Why did the pork knuckle have to be so fragrant? This was practically an assault on a cultivator’s resolve.

Someone cursed under their breath, watching the person and the dog.

The consequences of the previous "Emperor of Overthinking" were too severe. Even with Dahuang as a shining example right in front of them, the onlookers were unwilling to come forward and make a purchase.

Lu Wu could only vent her frustration by tearing into the large pork knuckle.

She poured her full emotions into every dish, and the resulting delicacy, imbued with rich flavors, was what made it so irresistible.

It could conquer humans, and it could conquer dogs.

"WOOF!"

’Pork knuckle, my big pork knuckle! It’s delicious, so delicious!’

OM NOM NOM!

The rich expressions on Dahuang’s doggy face were a testament to the pork knuckle’s deliciousness.

Dahuang, who could normally only express himself with barks, was so fired up that he wished he could go back right now and fight that cold-blooded snake for three hundred rounds.

’He, Gou Aotian, had revived at full health!’

The tail behind him was wagging so hard it could have taken flight, kicking up dust that got in Lu Wu’s eyes.

She had to stand up to continue eating.

The tender meat melted into juice in her mouth, warming her heart that had been wounded by the "Emperor of Overthinking."

After a few bites of pork knuckle, Lu Wu’s anger dissipated.

As the flavor lingered on her palate, she looked up and saw three more people emerging from the entrance to the Valley of Ten Thousand Poisons.

However, one of them was not in good shape and was being carried out.

The man was covered in blood, and his exposed arm bore marks of having been pecked by something.

The blackness around the wound was shocking, and the blood that flowed from it showed no trace of healthy red.

The man was poisoned.

His lips were pitch-black. Though he was still conscious, his vitality was rapidly fading.

His eyelids drooped weakly. One look was enough to tell he had been summoned by King Yan.

The face, caked in blood and grime, looked somewhat familiar to Lu Wu.

She couldn’t help but take a few extra glances.

Perhaps sensing her gaze, the man on the stretcher struggled to turn his head and look over.

When their eyes met, the man’s gaze suddenly brightened.

It was just like... a final flicker of life.

Being stared at with a gaze that had seen something wondrous, Lu Wu couldn’t help but shiver.

It was strange, and a little creepy.

"Ah..."

The man on the stretcher suddenly began to struggle, using all his strength to raise a hand and point in Lu Wu’s direction.

’If she didn’t know she was innocent, she would have thought the man was using his final ounce of strength to identify his killer before he died.’

Lu Wu was creeped out by her own imagination.

"Eldest Brother, what’s wrong?"

"Don’t worry, you’ll be okay! We’ll definitely find someone to save you."

"Eldest Brother, you have to hang in there! If you die, what will we do?"

The two younger brothers didn’t understand what their eldest brother was thinking and continued to wail.

Their cries were enough to make any listener grieve and any onlooker shed tears.

"Ah."

The man pushed away his younger brother, who was leaning over him, with a trembling hand. He mustered all his strength to look in Lu Wu’s direction.

The younger brother could no longer ignore the desperate longing written in his eyes.

The two younger brothers followed his gaze and saw Lu Wu trying to hide.

"What is that? It smells so good."

The youngest of the two twitched his nose, his eyes glued to the source of the smell.

"Why would someone be selling pork knuckles here?"

That aroma was just too incredible.

The smell alone was enough to make his mouth water. If it weren’t for the inappropriate timing, he would have gone over to buy some.

"Eldest Brother must be overwhelmed by the smell of meat. Let’s go, quickly."

After a moment of thought, Second Brother believed he had figured it out.

He motioned for Third to continue carrying the stretcher.

But who would have known that upon hearing this, the man would use the last of his strength to roll right off the stretcher.

His action left everyone dumbfounded.

The man on the ground looked at Lu Wu with teary eyes, and that familiar gaze finally made Lu Wu understand.

’This person... seemed to want some pork knuckle.’

Because his expression was just like that of her horde of crazed customers.

"I think Eldest Brother wants to eat that pork knuckle."

It was Third who figured out the man’s intention, speaking with some hesitation.

"Impossible!" Second Brother flatly retorted, only to see his eldest brother grab Third’s pant leg and agree in a hoarse voice.

’Well done, Third. I didn’t spoil you for nothing, brother.’
