The Cultivation Food Stall: Sold Out Every Night
Chapter 20: So Loud... Ah, No, This Bun Is So Delicious
Chapter 20: Chapter 20: So Loud... Ah, No, This Bun Is So Delicious
Lou Batian’s features were rugged. Standing next to Li Wan, they were a classic "beauty and the beast" pair.
His brawny arms looked like they could smash a person to pulp with a single punch.
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but his getup seemed strangely familiar. He looked just like that hooded, brutish bandit.
Suspicious, Lu Wu was about to look away when she noticed a few small stains on the front of his robe. They were yellowish—the telltale signs of spilled soup from a soup dumpling.
As he drew closer, Lu Wu could smell the scent still clinging to him.
It was the aroma of chili oil from her beef and vermicelli buns. There was no way Lu Wu could mistake the smell of her own unique recipe.
’Case closed. She hadn’t been mistaken.’
’This was the brutish bandit!’
Lu Wu’s eyes went wide with shock.
’Is this guy putting on some kind of performance art I don’t understand?’
’Is he going to pull on that hood in a minute and stop giving a damn about anyone?’
Although Lu Wu tried to be subtle with her glances, the couple was far from ordinary and noticed her scrutiny.
The two exchanged a look, and Li Wan playfully chided her husband, swatting him on the chest.
"I told you not to mess around, but you wouldn’t listen. Aren’t you afraid Boss Lu will laugh at you?"
Lou Batian rubbed his nose and chuckled sheepishly, not offering a rebuttal.
Ever since he’d snatched a bun from his own son’s grasp—like snatching food from a tiger’s mouth—Lou Batian had fallen head over heels for Lu Wu’s buns. Their exquisite flavor had him completely captivated.
After hearing Lou Xiaotian’s rave reviews, the couple had unanimously decided to visit the bun stall themselves.
But after learning about the purchase limit, Lou Batian, having tasted the buns for himself, couldn’t bear the thought of only eating two. It was barely enough to satisfy his craving.
So, he had spent a hefty sum to buy spots at the front of the line, along with the buns those people were holding. It was a backdoor method, but it allowed him to eat his fill.
He was the Town Lord, after all. If anyone saw him behaving like this, the gossip would be relentless.
That was why he’d put on a hood and disguised himself as a brutish bandit, all in an attempt to hide his identity.
But the town was only so big. Even with his face covered, Lou Batian’s physique and demeanor were enough for many to recognize him.
Lou Batian had become Town Lord through sheer Combat Power, so the residents could only be angry in silence; they didn’t dare voice their complaints.
Hearing the explanation, Lu Wu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’So that’s who Lou Xiaotian gets his unreliable nature from,’ she thought. ’Thank goodness he takes after the fairy-like Li Wan in the looks department.’
"I’m honored by your approval."
It was an honor, in a way, for such a powerful figure to do something so absurd just to eat her buns.
Just when Lu Wu thought that was an isolated incident, she ran into a new problem after selling more than half of her stock.
"The Yellow Fist Sect is here! We’re taking over this street! Everyone, clear out!"
The imperious shout exploded through the air.
The voice was laced with Spiritual Power, forcing some with low cultivation to clap their hands over their ears in discomfort.
Lu Wu should have been one of them.
But the instant the voice hit, several protective barriers shimmered into existence around her.
Some were from Lou Batian and his wife, and others from a few powerful diners hidden in the crowd.
Lu Wu looked up to see a group of people hovering in the air. They were dressed in uniform yellow robes, their hands clasped behind their backs as they barked orders at the crowd below.
"You must be Boss Lu."
An old man with a goatee appeared at Lu Wu’s side.
He moved so fast it startled Lu Wu, who nearly dropped the buns.
"I am," she replied. "And you are, Senior...?"
The disciples had already landed and were starting to forcibly drive away the other diners.
The customers, of course, refused to yield, resisting with dark expressions.
In moments, conflicts erupted all over the place.
"I am an elder of the Yellow Fist Sect," the old man said. "I’ve come to bring you into our sect. You’re a common mortal, but we don’t mind."
"From now on, you will stay at our Sect and dedicate yourself to making buns for us."
The old man sized up Lu Wu, his tone dripping with condescension, as if he were bestowing a great charity.
Yesterday, a disciple from the Yellow Fist Sect had come here looking for some fun and had been lucky enough to buy one of Lu Wu’s buns.
He happened to be this elder’s grandson and had been spoiled and arrogant his entire life.
Two buns weren’t nearly enough, so he’d tried to strong-arm her into selling him more, only to be shut down by a crowd of other customers.
Unwilling to accept defeat, he’d brought people back to settle the score.
In the Green Origin Realm, it wasn’t uncommon for Cultivators to look down on mortals.
Right now, Lu Wu was the target of that disdain.
It wasn’t a negotiation so much as a unilateral command.
This arrogant attitude made Lu Wu’s expression darken.
"I..."
Just as Lu Wu opened her mouth to refuse, the insufferably arrogant elder before her was struck by an invisible force and sent flying into the sky.
"AAAAH!"
His pained shriek echoed through the air.
With her limited vision, she could only vaguely make out *something* pummelling the elder.
Even the arrogant Yellow Fist Sect disciples were tossed into the air to join him—sharing the good fortune, so to speak.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
The sound of sonic booms filled the air.
The group of them were like putty, being rolled and squashed by unseen hands.
"Who?! Who dares to lay a hand on the Yellow Fist Sect?"
The elder shrieked in terror, trying to regain control of his body.
But he had no control over his own body. The experience left his words twisted and slurred, his face so bruised and swollen it resembled a pig’s head.
He couldn’t even think about fighting back, let alone finding his attackers.
This tragic and heroic scene of blood splattering across the sky made Lu Wu’s jaw drop.
’This isn’t some kind of ghost story, is it?’
"Mind your limits. Don’t kill them."
The voice that drifted down belonged to Li Wan.
She stood beside Lou Batian, a smile on her face as she watched the scene, looking a little eager to join in herself.
"Don’t worry, I know how to hold back. Besides, I’m not the only one dishing out the punishment."
The exchange made Lu Wu realize: ’The powerhouses are right here beside me.’
"Don’t you worry, Boss Lu," Lou Xiaotian chimed in with a grin. "With us here, the Yellow Fist Sect? More like the Yellow *Spring* Sect, since they’re clearly courting death."
He chuckled, signaling for Lu Wu not to worry.
Across the crowd, a few people exchanged knowing glances.
They might be well-behaved in front of Boss Lu, but that didn’t mean they were pushovers.
If they didn’t teach the Yellow Fist Sect a lesson for this kind of brainless stunt, how could they maintain their own prestige in the cultivation world?
"Boss, I’d like to buy some buns!"
The diners, who loved a good show and didn’t mind a bit of chaos, treated Lu Wu’s buns like popcorn at a movie.
Business continued as usual.
And so, a strange spectacle unfolded on Yanliu Street.
In the sky above, people were howling from the beating they were taking.
On the ground below, people were also howling—crying in frustration because they couldn’t buy any buns.
And plenty of people were adding their own running commentary.
"That punch doesn’t have nearly as much kick as this bun!"
"Yeah, this beef bun is spicy hot! Just like that slap was... spicy hot! What a sound! No, wait, what a *scent*!"
"Whoa, hey! The soup from my bun just squirted all over my face... Hey, you! Take this! Who told you to go spitting blood everywhere?"
Bits and pieces of these conversations reached Lu Wu’s ears, leaving her utterly speechless.
’Sure enough,’ she thought, ’it’s not that I’m uncultured, it’s that this crowd is completely unhinged.’
Quite a few people had joined in. The countless attacks left the members of the Yellow Fist Sect powerless to resist, turning them into lambs for the slaughter.
Only when Lu Wu had sold her very last bun were the sect members finally dropped to the ground.
The Yellow Fist Sect disciples lay curled up on the ground, a chorus of groans and wails rising from the heap.
’It’s over already?’
Lu Wu smacked her lips. ’If I’d known, I would have sold them slower,’ she thought. ’I hadn’t seen enough of the show.’
"Brothers, I got the scoop! The reason these guys came looking for trouble with Boss Lu is because their Sect Leader... can’t get it up."
"But after eating one of her buns yesterday, he found that he... could! So he wanted to kidnap Boss Lu to have her serve him exclusively."
No one knew who had dropped this juicy piece of gossip.
Lu Wu, the supposed victim, packed up her stall and settled in to enjoy the gossip with her customers.
The thoughtful Miss Feng Rong even brought Lu Wu a small stool.
Sitting at the entrance of the Baihua Building, Lu Wu was all ears.
