The Cricket System : Rise of the Pace Demon
Chapter 28: The Golden Dawn
The removal of Prithvi Varma wasn’t just a loss of a wicket for the Delhi State Reserve Squad; it was the removal of their engine, their anchor, and their identity.
When the state boys looked out at the pitch, they didn’t see an ordinary school team anymore. They saw a terrifying, black-dirt graveyard presided over by a skinny kid in worn-out blue shoes who could summon 132 km/h chaotic scrambled-seam deliveries at will.
The panic in the State Reserve dugout metastasized instantly.
Rohan didn’t slow down. Fueled by his upgraded 36 Stamina and the Intermediate Core Stabilization Blueprint, he bowled his entire four-over opening spell without a single drop in pace. Every delivery was a relentless, agonizing test of survival for the incoming batsmen.
• Over 3, Ball 4: A searing 131 km/h inswinging yorker slammed directly into the new batsman’s front shoe roll. LBW. OUT.
• Over 5, Ball 2: A back-of-a-length bouncer at 130.5 km/h forced the middle-order star into an awkward duck-and-weave. The ball clipped the shoulder of his bat, popping up for an easy catch to Kabir behind the stumps. CAUGHT. OUT.
By the time Coach Sharma called Rohan back to the boundary to save him for the death overs, Rohan’s figures were a masterpiece written in fire and leather:
4 Overs — 2 Maidens — 3 Runs — 3 Wickets.
The State Reserve Squad—the team that had swept through fourteen consecutive matches without sweating—was reeling at a catastrophic 18 for 4 in 6 overs.
With the top order completely gutted, Aryan Singhania stepped into the breach with blood in his eyes. Capitalizing on the sheer terror Rohan had instilled, Aryan bowled a masterclass in tight line and length, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs. The spinners cleaned up the remaining tail-enders who were simply too terrified to leave their creases.
In the 21st over, the final State Reserve batsman was bowled attempting a desperate, wild slog.
The scoreboard at Feroz Shah Kotla blinked in bright, unyielding LED lights:
Delhi State U-16 Reserves: 64 ALL OUT (20.4 Overs).
A dead silence fell over the western stands. The elite parents, talent scouts, and state officials sat frozen. 64 runs. It was the lowest total in the history of the Zonal Tournament finals.
The chase was brief, brutal, and completely devoid of drama.
Aryan, leading from the front as a true captain redeemed, batted with clinical precision alongside Kabir. The State Reserve bowlers, their spirits utterly crushed, lacked their usual speed and aggression. They bowled short, they bowled wide, and they bowled with defeat written across their faces.
In just 11.2 overs, Aryan hit a soaring cover drive for four, bringing up the winning runs.
St. Peter’s High School: 68/0 (11.2 Overs).
Result: St. Peter’s wins by 10 wickets!
The moment the ball crossed the boundary rope, the stadium exploded.
The entire St. Peter’s dugout charged onto the field. Hundreds of school kids breached the boundary ropes, swarming the pitch, waving flags, and screaming at the top of their lungs. Coach Sharma was lifted into the air by three assistant coaches, tears pouring down his face as he laughed hysterically.
Rohan stood near the boundary rope, watching the chaotic, beautiful celebration. He felt a hand drop onto his shoulder.
He turned to see Prithvi Varma standing behind him. The State captain had taken off his pads and was holding out his hand.
"I’ve faced bowlers from the National Cricket Academy," Prithvi said quietly, his voice devoid of any anger, carrying only profound respect. "None of them have a delivery like that scrambled seam. You didn’t just beat us today, Rohan. You broke us. What’s your name?"
Rohan shook his hand firmly. "Rohan Roy."
Prithvi nodded slowly, a small smile breaking through his serious expression. "Remember my name, Rohan. Because the next time we meet—at the State Team Selection Trials next month—I won’t be caught off guard."
"I’ll be waiting," Rohan replied evenly.
During the post-match presentation, the noise was deafening.
Rohan walked up to the podium to receive the Player of the Tournament trophy—a massive, gleaming gold cup, alongside a cheekily heavy check for his performance. As he held the golden trophy above his head, flashbulbs erupted from the local sports journalists.
Aryan stood beside him, clapping with everything he had, completely abandoning his past jealousy. Rohan had transformed their ragtag public school into champions.
In the middle of the flashing cameras and roaring crowds, the world around Rohan froze into a tranquil, golden static.
A series of massive, screen-filling holographic windows expanded before his eyes, shining with an intensity that completely drowned out the physical world.

Rohan dismissed the screen as the crowd’s cheers crashed back into his ears. He looked at the golden trophy in his hands, feeling its cool metal weight.
He had started this journey three weeks ago as a malnourished, bullied bench-warmer who couldn’t bowl over 100 km/h without straining his back. Now, he was the undisputed king of the Delhi school circuit, holding the Zonal trophy, feared by every state-level prodigy, and equipped with a System that had just evolved to its next tier.
Far away in the VIP stands, a man in a navy blue blazer adorned with the official CCBI (Cricket Control Board of India) crest closed his leather notebook. He stood up, picked up his phone, and dialed a number.
"Yeah, it’s me," the scout said into his phone, keeping his eyes locked onto Rohan Roy standing on the podium. "Cancel my flight to Mumbai. I found him. We have a kid in West Delhi who just bowled 132 clicks with an inverted scrambled seam in a school final... Yeah, get a spot ready for him in the Delhi Under-19 State Selection Camp."
Rohan looked up toward the VIP stands, his sharp, predatory eyes meeting the scout’s gaze across the vast stadium.
The Zonal Tournament was over. The bench-warmer was dead.
The regional stage had fallen. The national arena was waiting.
