Chapter 654: Chapter 654: Something Wrong With Your Head (2)
When Vera Xavier returned to her dorm room, she was surprised to find Susan Caldwell there. After leaving the teahouse today, she hadn’t gone straight back to school. Instead, she’d gone home for a bit to see if Nathaniel Nathan had returned.
As it turned out, Nathaniel Nathan wasn’t home when she got there. She felt a little disappointed and gave him a call, but he wasn’t at the military base either. According to the operator, he had been sent out on a last-minute mission.
She instantly understood the real reason he hadn’t come to see her these past few nights.
With her military training these past few days, it wouldn’t have been easy for Nathaniel Nathan to visit. And since the mission was assigned at the last minute, he couldn’t have notified her. She knew situations like this would probably be the norm for them from now on.
He was a soldier, one who defended his country. She couldn’t selfishly keep him from his missions.
But that didn’t stop her from missing him. He was the only one she had told her secrets to, which meant he was the only one she could share these things with. With him gone, she couldn’t tell anyone else about meeting Winter Sullivan today.
So, because she hadn’t seen Nathaniel Nathan, she was in low spirits when she got back.
But then she came back to find Susan Caldwell, and her mood soured even more. Seeing her, Susan stood up and said, "Vera, can we have a proper talk?"
Vera Xavier saw that her eyes were red-rimmed and there was a handprint on her face. She vaguely guessed that Susan had just been disciplined by Winter Sullivan.
Vera Xavier had never felt she had anything to discuss with Susan Caldwell, so she said flatly, "I already made myself perfectly clear at the teahouse. You and I can never be friends. You should go."
After speaking, she took off her backpack and casually placed it in her locker.
Susan Caldwell could tell at a glance that her backpack was from a foreign luxury brand and was quite expensive. Looking at her clothes, she saw they were also from a major label’s latest collection, barely even available for sale in the country yet.
Meanwhile, Susan Caldwell had to get Winter Sullivan’s permission just to buy a new piece of clothing, and Winter would absolutely never let her buy things like this.
She was going mad with jealousy, but she had always been very good at hiding her emotions. So, right now, she didn’t show the slightest hint of envy, looking sad instead.
She hadn’t forgotten her purpose in coming to see Vera Xavier. "I know you have some misunderstandings about me, so let me explain again. What happened in the cafeteria was truly just a misunderstanding. I know you won’t believe me, but I still have to tell you."
Seeing her act like this, Vera Xavier just wanted to laugh. ’Is Susan Caldwell trying to brainwash me by repeating this over and over?’
Vera didn’t think someone as cunning as Susan would be satisfied with such a crude brainwashing tactic. There had to be a follow-up. Her guard went up.
So she said bluntly, "Out with it. Say your piece and then get lost."
Susan Caldwell hadn’t expected her to be so blunt. Her expression froze for a moment, but she quickly recovered. With red-rimmed eyes, she started sobbing and said, "Because of what you said, my mom got really angry. In her frustration, she accidentally hit her head on the corner of a table. The injury is very serious, and she’s in the hospital now. Before she passed out, she told me to come and apologize to you again. So I hope you can forgive me!"
Hearing this, Vera Xavier’s heart skipped a beat. Her first reaction was to wonder, ’How is Winter Sullivan? Is it serious?’
