Chapter 78: Chapter 27: The Sky Has Fallen
Second Sister In Law Gu felt fury rush to her head, making it throb with rage. "She’s taken over one of our rooms!" she seethed through gritted teeth.
"She won’t be in it for many years. In a few years, she’ll be getting married," Uncle Gu said.
"She’s a born troublemaker! Did you let her come because you think our lives are too good?!" Second Sister In Law Gu roared, keeping her voice down. "Her own parents can’t stand her, but you have to be the bleeding heart, picking up every stray you find. Is your brain filled with shit?"
Uncle Gu frowned. "We can talk, but don’t start cussing."
"I’ll do more than cuss you out—I’ll hit you, too." As she spoke, she pinched him hard several times.
Uncle Gu dodged to the side. "She’s already moved in. You could pinch me to death and she’d still be here. Just try to accept it. She’s lived with us before, anyway. Besides, it’s not like Eldest Brother and Sister-in-law aren’t providing her share of the grain rations."
That was exactly why Aunt Gu didn’t want her there—because Gu Xing’er had lived with them before.
’That girl is completely shameless. She takes advantage of every little thing, and on top of that, Mother-in-law protects her.’ She hadn’t been able to scold or hit her, and the memory alone was infuriating.
"I don’t give a damn about her rations." ’Of course I care about the rations, but it’s just not worth it.’
Seeing his wife wasn’t having it, Uncle Gu yawned and said casually, "Just let her stay for a few days. If you really can’t accept it, I’ll find a way to send her back."
"You’re the one who said it!" Aunt Gu took him at his word.
"I said it. Now let’s get some sleep. I’m dead tired." Uncle Gu immediately rolled over and fell asleep.
Aunt Gu spat in the direction of the next room, where Gu Xing’er was staying, before lying down herself.

Moths danced in endless circles around the halo of the kerosene lamp.
In the dim yellow light, Lin Zhao smiled as she looked at the new points in her lottery system.
Today, she had completed two great point-earning tasks: one was the exam, and the other was breaking the ice with the main family.
The first earned her 50 points. The second was completed beyond expectations, earning her 100 points.
Adding in a few other miscellaneous tasks, she now had a total of 220 points.
Only 280 points away from 500.
’The revolution isn’t over; I must keep up the fight.’
「The next morning.」
A large, four-wheeled truck drove into Fengshou Team.
It came rumbling in like a giant monster, an incredibly impressive sight that stunned the crowd of villagers in the Fengshou Team.
The driver parked the truck on the side of the road, leaned his head out the window, and shouted, "Which way to Comrade Gu Chenghuai’s home?"
"Keep going straight," someone at the entrance to the village said.
After saying that, the person ran into the village. Spotting the Gu family’s Bangbang, they shouted, "Bangbang! A big truck is here! The driver’s looking for your third uncle’s family!"
Hearing this, Bangbang took off, running home to tell his grandparents the news.
Father Gu and Mother Gu hurried toward the entrance of the village.
The village road was too narrow for the truck to enter, so the driver parked and waited. The large vehicle was surrounded by children. A group of fearless little brats were grabbing onto the truck and trying to climb it, while the team leader was busy scolding the troublemakers.
Seeing Father Gu and Mother Gu approach, the team leader said, "They’re delivering bricks and tiles for Chenghuai’s family."
Lin Zhao had mentioned this, so Father Gu knew that comrades from a transport team would be helping deliver the bricks and tiles.
He stepped forward and greeted the driver warmly. "Thank you for your hard work, Comrade. Why don’t you come to the house for a drink of water? I’ll find some people to unload the bricks and tiles right now."
"No need to trouble yourselves. Let’s unload first. I have other business to attend to later." The driver had other things to do, so he politely declined.
Hearing this, Father Gu didn’t press the issue. He called over his two sons to unload the bricks and tiles, and the team leader rounded up a few strong young men to help.
The unloaded bricks and tiles were piled up in front of the third son’s family quarters.
Just as the driver was about to leave, Lin Zhao appeared and tossed a cloth pouch through the truck’s window.
"Thank you for the trouble, Comrade. A small gift of appreciation," she said.
The driver was taken aback for a moment, but he offered his thanks and drove off.
Now that they had the bricks and tiles, they could put building the house on the schedule. The key was waiting for the double-rush harvest to end, which would free up the necessary labor.
Before Lin Zhao could even ask, Mother Gu spoke up. "The double-rush harvest will be over in about a week. We can start construction as soon as it’s done."
Lin Zhao was very excited about the new house. "I probably won’t have much time then, so I’ll have to trouble you, Mom and Dad."
Mother Gu waved her hand dismissively, smiling. "It’s no trouble at all."
Building a house was a major event; a little exhaustion was nothing to complain about.
Father Gu felt the same way. ’Even if it’s tiring, how long could it last? Two months at the most.’
With the bricks and tiles delivered, building the house was officially on the schedule. They only had to wait one more week. Lin Zhao was filled with anticipation and began planning the blueprints.
She hadn’t studied architecture, so she couldn’t create professional blueprints, but she could draw simple ones. After all, she had a multi-talented father. As the Lin Family’s only daughter, she had been taught by his side since she was a child and had picked up a few things.
In Lin Zhao’s plan, the front yard would have an improved toilet—a flushable one. She was more than fed up with the dry latrine. The bathroom also had to be big enough for bathing.
