Chapter 2: Chapter 1: "Awakening

"Go on, get out of here! This is none of your business!" Mother Gu glared at the person who had spoken.

Thinking of Er Zai’s words, Mother Gu’s expression turned ugly, and her whole body tensed up.

’That blasted girl, why did she have to go to the third son’s place again!?’

’Why provoke the third son’s wife for no reason!’

Mother Gu was feeling stifled and anxious. Without even taking the time to ask what had really happened, she hurried toward the third son’s house.

Father Gu wiped his grandson’s tears and asked Er Zai what had happened.

Er Zai was a clever boy with sharp observation skills. Remembering the shattered bowl where his mother had fallen, he pieced together most of what had happened.

He said huffily, "My bad auntie tried to steal our steamed egg custard and pushed my mom."

The people from the Fengshou Team had strange expressions on their faces.

Pushing your own sister-in-law over a bowl of steamed egg custard...?

Even their own three-year-olds wouldn’t do something like that.

"..."

Father Gu’s hands couldn’t help but tremble.

’You don’t air your family’s dirty laundry in public.’

Seeing Er Zai’s red, rabbit-like eyes, he didn’t have the heart to say more.

’Forget it. Xing’er made this mess, so she should be the one to deal with the consequences!’

It wasn’t that he and her mother hadn’t tried to teach her, but that girl always had an excuse to argue back.

The two Gu family sisters-in-law looked at each other with wry smiles. Given the third son’s wife’s unforgiving nature when she was in the right, this time... there was bound to be a huge scene.

?-

Mother Gu rushed frantically to Da Zai’s home, her heart hammering so hard it felt like it would leap out of her chest. She steadied herself on the doorframe as she entered the room. When she saw the third son’s wife lying on the bed with her eyes open, she let out a long sigh of relief.

"It’s good you’re okay, it’s good you’re okay." She rubbed her chest. The journey here had scared her half to death.

"Grandma." Da Zai wasn’t crying anymore, but his eyes were still bright red.

"Oh, Da Zai, you must have been terrified." Seeing that Da Zai’s eyes were redder than Er Zai’s, Mother Gu figured he must have gotten a bad scare. Her heart ached for him as she stroked his head.

Then she looked at Wang Chunhua and thanked her, "We’ve troubled you."

Wang Chunhua waved her hand. "It was nothing. I don’t think Da Zai’s mother is seriously hurt. The lump on her head looks scary, but her mind seems fine."

After saying this, she remembered that her stove was still on at home, so she said a quick goodbye to Mother Gu and left.

Gu Dazai walked her to the door.

Wang Chunhua was filled with emotion. ’What a good kid,’ she thought. ’Why doesn’t Chenghuai’s wife know how to cherish him?’

Inside the room, Mother Gu sat on a stool by the bed, her voice several notches quieter than usual. "Third Daughter-in-law, are you okay? How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt? What do you want to eat? Mom will make it for you."

Lying in bed, Lin Zhao blinked. ’No,’ she thought, ’I’m not okay. I have a huge problem.’

Just a moment ago, her world had been turned upside down—

It turned out she was the early-departed biological mother of the simpering male side character and the cannon-fodder female side character in a book called *Stepmother’s Daily Life of Raising Children*. And she was fated to die today, all because of a bowl of steamed egg custard... Just a single bowl of steamed egg custard!

What an infuriatingly pathetic way to die.

It was so infuriating her heart felt like it had been thrown into a fire, swelling with rage. She wished she could blast the person who wrote this book to smithereens!

The worst part was, her character in the book was only mentioned in a single sentence. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the book also dissed her for being a huge drama queen who had thrown away all her good fortune.

"This is pissing me off! AAAAAAH..." Lin Zhao furiously pounded the bed, her fair, lovely face filled with rage, her eyes red with anger.

In the midst of her fury, she saw a large wheel floating in the empty space before her. It had a transparent, illusory quality, and its color was an iridescent black, exuding an air of sophistication and mystery.

The moment it caught Lin Zhao’s gaze, three words flashed across it:

[Mysterious Prize Wheel]

In just a few moments, the basic rules for using the wheel appeared in her mind: complete missions to earn points, and use points for the prize draw.

Lin Zhao blinked. ’You really shouldn’t injure your head. The side effects are serious. For instance, now I’m having hallucinations...’

She blinked again and waited for a long moment. The wheel was still there.

"!"

Lin Zhao couldn’t resist reaching out and poking it a few times. When she found she could actually touch it, her pupils quaked with shock.

Seeing the third son’s wife remain silent for a long moment, Mother Gu grew very uneasy and softened her usually loud voice. "Third Daughter-in-law?"

Lin Zhao looked up blankly.

She had a beautiful, radiant face, with classic, ink-black phoenix eyes, perfect double eyelids, a fine, straight nose, and soft, pink lips. Not only were her features outstanding, but her skin was also dazzlingly fair.

In terms of looks, she was the most stunning in all the surrounding villages.

Right now, the corners of her eyes were red. It didn’t make her look fierce, but it did diminish her usual arrogance and iciness.

Even Mother Gu, who held some dissatisfaction toward her third daughter-in-law, couldn’t help but feel a pang of pity. She thought her own young daughter had gone too far and needed to be taught a good lesson.

"Third Daughter-in-law, what happened today was all Xing’er’s fault. I’ll go back and teach her a lesson..." Mother Gu couldn’t stop herself from speaking placatingly.

Before she could finish, Lin Zhao pounded the bed again with a loud THUD. If the man of the house, Gu Chenghuai, hadn’t reinforced it several times, those two blows would have been enough to make it collapse!
