The Broken Halo

Chapter 551: Where Is My...

There was no way Simon would not recognize Blackblade’s sword.

It was an item that stressed him out, and it was an item he eventually sold to Sunless.

This was not the only reason he was looking at Sunless and why he questioned her.

No.

The reason why he was staring at her with his life slipping away from his body was because Blackblade’s sword had pierced him from his shadow.

He sensed it through ShadowSense, but it was too fast for him to dodge.

Unless Sunless had sold the sword to another shadow user that could hide their presence from Simon, then who else would have attacked him like this?

His gaze never moved from Sunless despite the frozen state of Sonya, Akaza, Jorra, and Merath.

They couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

What just happened?

There was an extremely tense and frozen silence in the group, and even the wind of Blackwind Valley seemed to not make a sound.

Simon and Sunless stared at each other through their masks, and Sonya and Akaza started backing away after finally coming to their senses and seeing this.

They didn’t know what just happened, but they could connect some of the dots seeing the look in Simon’s eyes as he stared at Sunless.

Cough!

Cough!

Simon coughed out multiple mouthfuls of blood, and he could not help but fall on one knee.

Blood poured out of the hole in his chest in copious amount, and the expressions of Sonya and Akaza changed when they saw this.

"Little kitty!"

"Broken Halo!"

They ran to Simon, and crouched in front of him.

However, despite their concern and worry, Simon’s eyes remained fixed on Sunless who had not said a single word.

His lips parted open to speak, but his pupils suddenly constricted into pinholes and his head snapped to the sky.

Sonya, Akaza, Merath, and Jorra also had similar reactions to Simon.

They looked at the sky in shock, disbelief, and fear could even be seen in their eyes.

Three auras suddenly appeared in the sky, and these three auras were the auras of Demon Lords.

And one of them belonged to Black Midnight.

As for the last two, Simon recognized them.

As he stared at the appearance of three Grave Lords in the sky, his eyes flickered with a myriad of thoughts and calculations.

’Black Midnight, First Dusk, and... True Night.’

’The strongest Grave Lord is here.’

’But why now?’

The gears in Simon’s mind spun repeatedly as he stared at the three Grave Lords who were slowly falling to the ground.

He then noticed something.

’Wait... Where are they... looking?’

His gaze immediately landed on Sunless, and the confusion in his eyes deepened.

What in the world was going on?

Even Merath noticed that the gazes of the three Grave Lords were on Sunless, and her Daemon instincts were furiously warning her and telling her to leave.

She followed her instincts without hesitation and jumped away from Sunless without hesitation.

As she jumped in the direction of Simon and the rest, her eyes could not help but narrow.

’I used her body to propel myself away from her, but she didn’t budge an inch?’

This made Merath’s instincts to warn her the more.

Simon ignored Merath who was now standing close to him.

His eyes were completely on Sunless and the Grave Lords.

Some seconds later, the Grave Lords finally reached the ground, and they were all facing Sunless.

And what they did next completely shook the hearts of Simon, Akaza, Sonya, Merath, and Jorra.

"We greet the Night Sovereign."

"We greet the Night Sovereign."

"We greet the Night Sovereign."

They all got on one knee and said in unison.

In that exact moment, Simon and the others felt like they had been electrocuted by a dozen bolts of lightning.

They completely froze on the spot, unable to believe what they just heard.

Simon’s eyes subconsciously moved to Sunless, and a few seconds later, she released a deep sigh.

"Too bad. I was really looking forward to continuing this charade."

Sunless’ voice was the same, but this time around, everybody could notice that something was different.

Her voice now carried an authority, arrogance, and indifference that was usually not present.

Was this the same Sunless they all knew?

Nobody responded to Sunless’ words, not even Simon.

He didn’t know what to say because it still didn’t make sense to him.

How could Sunless be the Night Sovereign?

Was he dreaming?

Was he in an hallucination?

What was real and what was fake?

Even with his unique mind and experience, Simon’s mind instinctively rejected that Sunless was the Night Sovereign.

It didn’t just make sense to him.

If Sunless was the Night Sovereign, then how come he never found out?

What of the way she acted in the past?

The attachment and feelings she had for him?

What of her aura?

Her demonic energy?

Even right now, Sunless was still an Archfiend to his senses.

If Sunless was truly the Night Sovereign, she should be a Demon King or a Half-Step Demon King at the very least.

When one reaches that stage, hiding one’s aura and terrifying presence becomes extremely difficult because of the qualitative and immense changes that would occur to the individual.

If she was the Night Sovereign, he and his classmates would instinctively feel weaker and more respectful in Sunless’ presence.

So many random and chaotic thoughts and questions appeared in Simon’s mind for nearly six seconds.

Then, Sunless sighed.

"Honestly, you shouldn’t be so surprised Blackmoon. I did the same thing you did to Thorgan."

Simon shook and his eyes widened uncontrollably.

"What?"

Sunless folded her arms.

"Well, not exactly since I didn’t stab you in the heart like you did to Thorgan."

Sunless shrugged and released another sigh.

"You’re really something else, Blackmoon. Your abilities are... very intriguing."

"Trust me when I say that I didn’t want it to come to this. I wanted to observe you closely, but unfortunately, plans have changed."

Simon still did not respond, causing Sunless to release a deep sigh.

"But there is one thing I cannot forgive you for though. Where is my Winter Monkey?"

The moment Simon heard this question, he trembled violently as a thousand bolts of realization struck him.
