Chapter 282: Balance Theory
Chapter 282: 282: Balance Theory
After reading the book on the Second Great War, Simon was once again filled with so many questions.
And the two biggest questions he had were…
What are Shell Worlds truly?
And why were there only six Demon Kings and six Demi-Gods left at the end of the day?
It was extremely odd to him, so odd that his instincts were telling him that something strange was going on.
Before the war, the demons had more Demi-Gods than the humans.
And by all means…by all means, the demons should have won.
Even Simon in his past life could not fight and kill five Demi-Gods.
Two Demi-Gods he could kill…as long as they were not ancient Demi-Gods who loved to battle.
Three Demi-Gods?
That was pushing it. He’d have no other choice than to escape.
He could understand that the gods interfered by giving humans a weapon called Shell Worlds, but what he could not understand was why the number of Demon Kings left alive was the same number of Demi-Gods left alive.
’When the Demon Invasion first happened, there was no Demon King. The Demon of King of Death was not yet a Demon King.’
’He eventually became a Demon King before me, and that pressured me to become a Demi-God very quickly.’
’But why, why is it that in my time and presently, the number of Demon Kings and Demi-Gods are always the same.’
’Earth had used the Shell Worlds to kill twelve Demon Kings, why didn’t they continue with their plan and use the Shell Worlds to kill the remaining demons?’
’Why did they stop when there were only six Demon Kings left?’
’Why did they stop when the number of Demon Kings was equal to the number of Demi-Gods?’
’It makes no sense.’
Many would have glossed over this detail or ignored it, believing that it was normal and of no importance.
But for Simon, he believed that this detail was very important and crucial.
He frowned in contemplation over this detail, then his eyes flashed with a glint of realization.
’Balance.’
’Could it be balance?’
’Could the gods want to maintain a sort of balance between Earth and the Demon Realm? Especially in terms of Demi-Gods?’
’But if that’s the case, then why? Why do they want this balance?’
’A game? Fun? Excitement? They want this war to continue cause it’s fun to them?’
’Or is there another benefit to it?’
The gears in Simon’s mind spun at a furious speed as he had all these thoughts.
Though he knew that he could be wrong, but he had a feeling that this was not the case.
’What if… What if the true reason I was killed is because I had broken this balance?’
’I killed the Demon King of Death, and because of my hatred for demons, I was planning on wiping out the entire demon race with my comrades.’
’I was arrogant and stubborn. I did not fear the gods and I did not listen to them.’
’My Patron God was unknown. I was never able to get any information on him, and no god wanted to tell me about him or maybe they didn’t know.’
’I was not under any pantheon. I was a lone wolf. My path, goals, and ambitions were defying the plans of the gods, and maybe of the Heralds and the ancient beings that are stronger than the gods.’
’If I’m right, then because I was under no pantheon or god, they could not control me. And because I was more powerful than an average Demi-God, I was not afraid of them.’
’Maybe there’s a reason why they couldn’t kill me outrightly, because if they wanted to. They could definitely have killed me.’
As soon as Simon had this thought, he paused, tilted his head slightly, then furrowed his brows slightly.
’Could that be it? They couldn’t kill me because of my Patron God? Because of the Nameless One?’
’Could it be that if they killed me, the Nameless One would have acted against them? But if it was my friends that killed me, then he would not have been able to act against me?’
’Could that be the reason why the Gods never killed me or acted against me?’
’I remember countless times where I acted arrogant and defied the orders of the gods, but they never for once sent an attack that could outrightly kill me.’
’The Nameless One… Who is he, she, they, or it?’
Simon looked down with a deep frown, then he glanced at a passing demon.
’If I’m right about the gods, heralds, or ancient beings wanting a sort of ’balance’, then doesn’t that mean that the demons are also part of this?’
’It’s certain that the demons also know about this balance…if I’m right. But is it only the Demon Kings that know?’
’What of the Demon Lords?’
’What is actually going on in the grander scheme of things?’
Simon closed his eyes and placed his two fingers inside the eye holes of his mask.
He knew that he could be completely wrong about this theory he just thought of. He knew that the reason could be something else entirely, and that it could just be a coincidence that the number of Demon Kings and Demi-Gods were the same.
He also knew that if the gods wanted him dead, one of the reasons could have been because of his patron god… The Nameless One.
It could be for so many reasons, but for some strange reason, Simon felt that his Balance Theory was right.
And the thought of his theory being true sent a shiver down his spine.
’If I’m not careful, the gods, Heralds, or those ancient beings might kill me once I attain a certain level of strength.’
’And this time around, the Nameless One might not protect me because I’m no longer a human.’
’I don’t know… But I cannot depend on the Nameless One. I can’t depend on anybody.’
’I need to become stronger if I want to survive. A lot stronger than my previous self.’
’I need to be able to kill a God as a Demon King in this life.’
