Chapter 1910: Chapter 1910: Testing the Waters

It’s not cheap for the film crew to shoot horse scenes, but the horses are professionally trained. If there’s no special situation, they won’t be startled suddenly, so this unexpected incident surprised everyone.

Yueling was riding the horse, trying hard to control it, but the horse went crazy and dashed into the woods, branches scraping against her clothes and tearing them in several places.

"Quick, go check it out, make sure nothing happens."

"Director, it looks like Yueling went into the woods."

"Quickly, go after her."

A runaway horse can’t be caught just with two legs; soon, Yueling’s trail disappeared completely.

On the other side of the woods.

The runaway horse carried Yueling to the edge of a river. Suddenly, Yueling leapt up from the horse’s back in what might not be much in a TV series, but if someone were watching, they’d be shocked—this wasn’t a wire pull, it was actual "flying."

Just before the horse dove into the river, Yueling jumped out and landed steadily, her white gauze dress making her look like a fairy from the series.

Clap, clap, clap.

Suddenly, applause came from the woods not far away.

"Who’s there?" Yueling asked coldly.

"Not too shabby, Miss Yueling," Ye Shikai said, clapping his hands and slowly emerging from the woods.

"Mr. Ye, why is it you?" Yueling queried.

"If I said I was passing by by chance, you wouldn’t believe me, right?" Ye Shikai joked, considering it was late at night—who would wander in the woods at this hour?

"Did you startle the horse?"

"How could I admit that? Don’t blame me for something I didn’t do," Ye Shikai didn’t confess, then shifted the topic, "I never expected Miss Yueling, who seems so delicate, to be so skilled at martial arts—you must be a cultivator too."

"I wonder what Mr. Ye wants with me." Yueling didn’t answer his question but changed the topic. She had realized that Ye Shikai was responsible for the horse suddenly losing control.

"No paparazzi here, just the two of us; I want to ask Miss Yueling a few things." Ye Shikai took out a photo and handed it over. It was the candid shot from the other day. Yueling had used Inner Strength in a pinch, confirming his suspicion that she was one of the suspects in the HST project—a cultivator. Such a coincidence couldn’t be happening.

"I never thought Mr. Ye would stoop so low as to take candid photos," Yueling sneered.

"I didn’t take the photo; who took it doesn’t matter. The key is...what are you doing?" Ye Shikai asked.

"This is my privacy, I don’t think I have to answer you," Yueling replied coldly, perhaps not prepared to respond.

"You’re controlling the Mothman, aren’t you," Ye Shikai said directly, knowing this is highly dangerous. The matter of mutants is top secret, not to be disclosed, especially not to public figures like Yueling. If news leaked, it could incite panic.

"What’s a Mothman? I don’t understand; I really don’t know what you’re talking about." Yueling outright rejected it, naturally. Even if she were the mastermind, she wouldn’t admit it in front of Ye Shikai—just like he wouldn’t admit to startling the horse.

"Miss Yueling, in light of the situation, will you still argue?"

"I don’t understand what you’re saying, Mr. Ye. If you continue being rude, don’t blame me for being impolite."

"Alright, since Miss Yueling doesn’t welcome me, I’ll leave for now. But we’ll certainly meet again in the future," Ye Shikai said calmly. He wasn’t worried that Yueling would trouble him; the film crew would certainly make Yueling keep quiet about tonight’s incident. Though she was unharmed, the media would make a huge deal out of it if the public knew about the mishap during filming, affecting the entire crew.

Ye Shikai already got his answer, so there was no need to stay. Plus, the film crew would soon arrive; he didn’t want anyone to notice him.

"Miss Yueling, we’ll meet again, but I still suggest you come and confess everything to me. The address is here." Ye Shikai tossed out a card, which Yueling caught effortlessly.

"Goodbye." Ye Shikai dashed into the woods, vanishing without a trace. The film crew soon arrived, only finding Yueling standing alone by the river.

"Yueling, are you alright?" a female assistant hurried up.

"Don’t worry, I’m not hurt. Director, let’s continue filming." Yueling immediately changed her expression, making it impossible for outsiders to tell what had just happened.

"Forget it, the horse can’t be used today; let’s switch to the next scene, everyone back, set up the grounds."

"Okay."

..................

Ye Shikai’s "unexpected meeting" with Yueling today served as a wake-up call. He vaguely felt that Yueling wasn’t the mastermind; she might just be a pawn or a forerunner for the mastermind. He could learn some information from her.

Back at the National Security Bureau members’ quarters, Ye Shikai found everyone having a meeting instead of sleeping.

"What’s up, haven’t you all gone to bed?"

"Mr. Ye, where did you go just now?" Jing Xie asked.

"Of course, I went to see Yueling."

"How did it go?" Shen Wu quickly asked.

"She didn’t confess, but I expected that," Ye Shikai waved his hand.

"What? Did you actually reveal the mutant issue?"

"Not exactly a revelation, more like probing. Besides, it was just the two of us at the time, so there’s no worry about a third person overhearing. Most importantly, I’ve almost confirmed that she’s related to the HST project." ℯℯ𝑙.

"What’s the point? There’s still no evidence."

"We can never wake those who are pretending to sleep. She doesn’t admit it; does that mean there’s no solution? Besides, she’s now a suspect; I have ways to deal with her."

"Mr. Ye, regardless of the circumstances, the mutant issue is top secret. Even if you highly suspect Yueling has a connection to it, you shouldn’t casually divulge it to others. Forget about today; in the future, I hope you’ll be more cautious," Bai Ni advised, concerned about leaking the issue, knowing how sensational it would be in today’s media landscape.

"Rest assured, Director Bai, I know my limits. Indeed, there was some gambling tonight, but it seems I’ve won."
