Chapter 98 Queen Spider
Leon’s summons marched into the open gate with a striking silence. The other side was completely dark, with only a little light from the hall they had come from lighting up a few meters into the new hall.
Bang!
The gates slammed shut behind the last summon. Leon, who was standing in the center of his army of summons turned to look back at the sealed gate with a hint of apprehension.
Whoosh!
All of a sudden, a blue flame burst into existence right in the center of the gate, revealing a torch that was firmly fixed on one side of the gate. On the other side was a similar torch, which burst into flames in the next second.
Like that, torches began lighting themselves all around the massive, sizeable cavern that they had stepped into. It was as if someone had merged three football fields together into one massive battleground. There were large holes as wide as car everywhere, just like in the halls before, but they were all silent, as if they were empty.
“Well, well, well. Visitors!” A sonorous voice that dripped with a strange aura echoed through the massive hall. “Hahahaha! What shall I offer?”
Startled, Leon looked around, searching for where the voice came from, but he suddenly felt a chill run down his spine and he turned to the ceiling.
There, a massive shadow that had eight legs hung between the dark stalactites that were lit up by the torches. The spider was not like the others that they had fought so far, but was still quite large. It was around the size of the average Dark Abyss Spider, but was thicker, with much firmer legs. It moved about the stalactites swiftly before retreating a distance and slowly lowering itself down by a web, revealing its body properly.
‘Oh!’ Leon was taken aback. He had not expected such a sight.
A large spider abdomen with four sharp, sturdy legs on each side lowered itself down. Or ‘herself’ rather.
Instead of the usual ugly, eight-eyes face, the body of a woman sat at the head of the spider body. Her long, white legs were covered in a black membrane that resembled armor, as was the same with her abdomen and chest. Her legs had no feet, but were tipped off with narrow, sharp points. Yes, she was made for battle. She smiled at Leon from her spot up in the air, her silver hair swaying and covering one of her pitch black eyes.
“Surprised? I can smell it from here, little undead. I have become so used to that scent that it is like my perfume now.” The spider queen laughed and spun around, carried graciously by her webs.
“What?” Leon stumbled, his shock rising up a few more notches. He was very observant at the moment, and paid attention to everything she said and did. Now, he had heard something that a monster, from a dungeon of all places, was not supposed to know, as far as he was concerned.
Perfume.
What business did a dungeon mob have knowing what perfume was?
“More surprise? I think I can guess what has you so surprised. Are wondering why I have knowledge of things that do not belong in here? Well, perhaps when I eat you, I can share that knowledge with you.” She smiled, her smile as sweet as honey.
Leon’s irritation spiked. Beautiful as she may have been, there was a limit. And that limit was the rest of her body. He was definitely not going to be moved by a monster. Plus, she had just said she would eat him!
Without answering her, Leon turned to look around. Now, the scratching sounds had begun, and it was loud. Very loud. Leon was not surprised. This was a spider nest. Of course, there were going to be tons of monsters. Especially since this seemed to be the center of the dungeon.
“Get ready everyone. Don’t hold back. You especially, Kaladin.” Leon ordered his summons seriously. He had played a lot of games, and he knew how hard boss fights were. This time, he was also planning on joining in on the fight.
Five orbs of red fire bloomed to life behind him, slowly circling his backside as he waited for the wave of monsters to pour out. Bolts of lightning raced up Kaladin’s arms and his eyes blazed with white and blue lightning. Green mana swirled around Grokus, while a sheen of red mana coated Nero’s shield and sword. Leon’s hidden blade, James, remained hidden, only a thought away, and ready to deal a devastating strike to any enemy of his master.
The ground rumbled beneath Leon’s feet, and with a loud boom, over a hundred small spiders variants burst out of the holes, swarming through the entire room and spreading around. More and more of them continued to pour out of the holes, quickly filling up the place in a matter of moments.
“Fight!” Leon roared out, his aura flaring as he instantly cast the most explosive spells that he knew. Giant tornadoes of wind spawned in the middle of the spider ranks, before exploding into burning hazes of swirling fire that burnt up the spiders to a crisp in moments.
Bang!
Lightning exploded in a flurry of slashes, zapping, frying, and blowing up as many spiders that were in its range of explosion as they could.
Although Grokus was a close combat powerhouse, just like Nero, he still had a myriad of ranged solutions available to him. As for Nero, he was left on standby as he had nothing to do, but the fire in his heart never once calmed down. Instead, with each enemy slain, the red light around him seemed to quiver and shake, and before long, it was as if he had been enveloped in a blizzard of red mana.
The moment the first dozen spiders reached a reasonable range, he exploded!
“RAAAAAARRRR!!!!” The ground blew up in the location he was once standing in a moment ago, and a red blur dashed forward, the spiders in its way turning into a haze of green blood and scattered body parts.
