The Black Necromancer

Chapter 78 Why Do We Keep Running Into Each Other?!

Leon used his foot to push aside the dead body of the short man, exposing his daggers that he had fallen on when he slumped to the ground.

,m “These will be a nice spoil of war.” He smirked as he held up the twin daggers in front of his eyes. He turned his gaze back to the headless corpse next in thought. “What if I….” He raised his hand and activated his signature skill.

Mana roiled and swirled around the corpse as Leon activated the <Spirit Summoning> skill. It seeped into the man’s skin, turning it into black dust that swirled around in a small whirlwind.

Leon stepped back and watched as yet another loyal summon was being birthed from this amazing skill.

[The soul of this body still lingers. Soul reconstruction is complete. The original soul of the body has been modified to fit its new body.]

The swirling black dust dissipated, leaving the lightly armored body of a human. The only difference that would let a person know that the summon was no longer a human would be the obvious fact that his skin and the clothes on him were completely black. His eyes looked like dark abysses as they slowly cleared up to a blue color with each passing moment.

When the soul had fully settled in its new body, the man went down on one knee with his head lowered.

“My life is yours, my lord.” The new summon said.

Holding his chin, Leon thought, ‘The system said the soul was reconstructed… But it was the original soul that was modified. I wonder if he still has his memories.’ He wondered.

“What is your name?” Leon turned to the man and asked.

“My name is James, my lord.” The man replied, and Leon winced.

‘James is a pretty boring name for a cool assassin summon. I need to give him another name sometime later.’ He thought, letting his eyes take in the man in entirety as he thought of a good name.

Chucking the thought to the back of his mind, Leon pulled James into his spirit container and set off again in the direction the Royal millipede that killed James had headed off to. He currently shared its vision as it weaved and bobbed through the forest at a high speed. Meanwhile, he was scanning James’ being inside and out. After a minute, he found out that James had indeed retained his memories from when he was alive. Leon then began to browse through them.

The most recent memory was one that Leon could easily tell was filled with regret. The scene of James fleeing through the forest flashed past Leon’s closed eyes in reverse as it took Leon back through the memories in fast forward. A minute in, Leon drew in a sharp breath.

“This…!” His eyes snapped open when he came upon the scene of the fight between James and the others. The most notable part was the entry of three combatants that Leon was a bit familiar with.

“What are these three doing here again? Why do we keep running into each other? Does fate want us to cross paths again that bad?” Leon complained with a barrage of questions as a frown crossed his features.

“Fine, then. I guess I’ll just have to go and meet them. Nedra, speed up.” Leon opened his eyes and instructed Nedra to speed up. Soon, they were moving at a speed much faster than that of the Royal Millipede, and they were quickly approaching the clearing where the battle had taken place in.

In just less than ten minutes, they had already caught up to the Royal Millipede ahead. Seeing how close to the clearing they were from James’ memories, Leon slowed down and let the millipede go ahead.

“I probably shouldn’t go in with my human form. Even though it’s already associated with my summons, I should try to keep it on the low around here.” He murmured to himself and quickly switched to his real form. He then tapped into the millipedes vision and waited until it reached the clearing. While it moved, he also followed, but slower to make sure it got there first.

When the millipede finally stepped out of the cover of the forest, the clearing was bright and clear. At first, the light was a bit bright so it took a moment to notice that there were several weapons being pointed in the direction of the millipede.

“Shit! We let out guard down and we run into this again!” The green haired guy swore and dashed forward. His glowing sword clashed against the claw of the millipede, pushing it back a bit, but the millipede was able to hold its own. A flurry of sword strikes followed, but were all blocked by the many legs that the millipede possessed. From what Leon could tell from that, Adrian was of roughly the same strength as James, but he was more direct in his approach to combat.

“Let’s hurry.” He urged Nedra who was also watching the fight through the millipedes eyes. She had switched to her mini form, and was currently hanging around Leon’s shoulders. With her Adaptable Body skill, she was able to shrink to a much smaller size than before. Maybe when she maxed out the skill, she would be able to shrink down to the size of a flee or something.

In the few moments it took for Leon, Malaki, and William to confront the millipede, Leon was able to quickly reach the clearing. The sound of the rustling bushes made the men take a step back and raise their alertness.

“Oh, heavens no.” When Adrian saw Leon step into the clearing from between the trees and bushes, his red eyes turned into needles and he took another unconscious step backwards. He had gone toe to toe with Leon before, and he knew how terrifying Leon could be. The fact that he also could not remember half of the fight meant that the beating he had gotten was quite extensive, with the only thing saving him being the talisman Benny had given them. At least, that was what Bella had said, and he had no reason to doubt her words.
