Chapter 531: Starting The Hunt (2)
A large army amassed beyond the boundaries of Leon’s God Kingdom. As they gathered, all the beings within the God Kingdom began to prepare for the inevitable. In the midst of it all, Leon floated in the sky, making it so that everyone could see him clearly.
He let out a sigh and looked around. He spotted the Ace Candidates, his own subordinates, and others. His gaze lingered on the Ace Candidates for a while longer. These people had been specifically cultivated and raised to be able to combat this threat, but in the end, it had not been enough.
If the Ace Candidates had faced the Army of Destruction like how the Gods had planned without a variable like Leon among them, then Datar would have surely fallen.
Leon did not need to give a speech to anyone, as they were all fired up and ready to fight. They knew that if they could not make it through this, then they would die there and then, so there was no better motivator that could drive them to do better.
The portals outside the God Kingdom never closed and more and more enemies kept pouring out. Their strength varied greatly, ranging from powerful Major Gods to relatively weaker Minor Gods, and even some random mortal troops.
‘Is the Paragon of Undeath finally going to fight me with all he has?’ Leon thought to himself as he led the defenders out of his God Kingdom. They stood on the opposite side of the battlefield from the invaders with the God Kingdom behind them.
At the forefront of the army, a ten meter tall being with six arms, two curved horns on its head, and a scaled body, stared at Leon, its bright red eyes carrying a strange pressure.
“Leon Cromwell. I am Argon Fizen. I am here to put you down once and for all. Again and again, you have defied the will of the Paragon of Undeath. As such, he had mobilized his full force to deal with you. The rules of this invasion be damned, you will be captured at any cost.” The ten meter tall being said, his voice booming across the space between them.
Argon Fizen was the strongest being under the Paragon of Undeath, only a step short of becoming a True God himself. In the centuries that he had followed the Paragon of Undeath, Argon had not made any progress in crossing this immense gulf that separated him from true power.
Whenever he was asked why, he responded that it was his duty to serve the Paragon of Undeath, and that ascending to True God would only be a disservice to the Paragon of Undeath, and as such, he had intentionally not crossed this gulf.
Leon stared at Argon with a leveled gaze. He could feel the strength that bubbled beneath the surface radiating from Argon’s body. The flesh on his body began to disintegrate, revealing his true form. If he did not go all out from the beginning, then he would be tempting Fate. Even with the Nexus Being backing him up, he might lose.
As the seconds passed, the tension in the air steadily rose. Leon looked around and saw that all his people were present. Not all of the Ace Candidates were present, and those that were present were not in great condition, as they had been recovering from a past battle where they had been injured.
“Don’t worry about us, Leon. We can take care of ourselves.” One of the Ace Candidates said when he crossed gazes with Leon. Dyson and the others were not around, and had left her in charge.
“Alright. Then there is nothing more for me to worry about. You all know what we need to do. We make a stand. It is either we prevail, or we die here. No third option.” Leon nodded his head and said.
A grim determination filled the air as the forces of the Paragon of Undeath made the first move. Hundreds of ranged attacks of all kinds, whether physical or magical, crossed the distance rapidly.
Leon and a few others raised their hands to defend. Relying on the support of his Divine Kingdom, Leon was able to boost the abilities of all the defenders to a great degree.
A Divine Kingdom was much more than a fancy base for a God. It served as their foundation in the Celestial Realm. This meant that by drawing on the power of one’s Divine Kingdom, they would be able to exhibit greater strength. This ability grew stronger the closer one was to their Divine Kingdom physically.
With Leon being directly outside his Divine Kingdom, the bonuses he was able to receive was very high! Although it would have been greater if he had been fighting within his Divine Kingdom, Leon was not ready to risk it like so. He believed he could handle things as they were already.
The barrier of the Divine Kingdom rippled and the spires that decorated Leon’s castle all glowed brightly as beams of dark light shot out of them and merged to one large beam before shooting into Leon’s back. All of this energy was eagerly absorbed by Leon as he prepared to face off against Argon.
His body grew to match the size of his opponent and his mind began to run in overdrive as he conjured powerful techniques to pelt the enemy from afar.
A black longsword appeared in Leon’s grasp with a red gem embedded in its hilt. A dangerous aura was radiated from that red gem which could be felt by all beings present.
Boom!
Leon and Argon moved at the same time, their motions too fast for many people to follow. Even the stronger ones among those that came with Argon could not clearly focus on the movements of the two.
Clang!
Clang!
The sounds of weapons clashing in the skies could be heard. Occasionally, one or both of them would appear for a moment before vanishing again. In a mere second, dozens of blows were exchanged, each blow enough to sunder a floating island.
