Chapter 501 Fort Bender’s Reinforcements
Chapter 501 Fort Bender’s Reinforcements
Some time ago, as the Gods of Datar faced their counterparts, the world of Datar came under the attack of a portion of the vanguard force of the Army of Destruction..
Cromwell Empire, Pala Province, Northwestern Region…
Gustavo frowned as he awaited the forces that he had been promised would be sent to assist in Fort Bender’s defense. He had called in the favor that Leon had owed him for a long time.
‘I still can’t believe how quickly he grew.’ Gustavo thought in awe for a moment before shaking his head when he felt some new presences enter his range of perception.
Compared to before, Gustavo was now a High A rank. His potential was not stellar in the first place, and he had to fight tooth and nail for any small improvement he made at this level. It was through his hard work that he had been able to reach High A rank at this time even after exhausting most of his potential.
Gustavo’s eyes narrowed and he peered into the distance, spotting five beings speeding his way though the air. None of them had meager presences, but they were not too overbearing. They were all Peak B rank. They were all seated on some flying mounts.
‘Just Peak B rank?’ Gustavo did not want to seem ungrateful, but if it was just five Peak B ranks that were being sent to support him, then he could have done without it. He would still take them, though. Peak B ranks were strategic assets to small city states like his Fort Bender.
Before long, the five Peak B ranks arrived and Gustavo was able to better evaluate them.
“Greetings, Sir Gustavo. I am Nico.” The leader of the Peak B ranks, an Elven male, bowed his head slightly as he greeted. The four others did the same.
Gustavo scanned them for a moment and their mounts. The mounts were also B ranks, but nothing too special.
“Hello. Welcome to Fort Bender. You must be the reinforcements that I was told were coming?” Gustavo responded immediately.
“Not exactly. We are here to open up a teleportation gate that will send over the reinforcements.” Nico responded with a smile.
“Oh?” Gustavo, clearly not expecting this, was taken aback. “Well, go ahead then. Don’t let me stop you.”
“Very well.” Nico nodded and turned to his colleagues. They were a mix of two Elves and two humans. Taking the lead, they proceeded to make some inscriptions on the grounds before pouring their mana into it. Nico stepped back and used Earth magic to create a stone gateway over the inscription.
The air buzzed and the ambient mana around crackled and tingled. Gustavo watched as a stable spatial gateway was created with the stone gateway acting as the door where it was rooted. A swirling black portal was formed, constantly drawing in mana from the surroundings.
Nico stepped back and examined the portal for a few moments before verifying its stability. When he was sure of it, he nodded his head and picked up a translucent colorful crystal from his spatial ring. He used it to communicate with someone else and after a few moments, the portal began to release fluctuations.
The portal flashed with black light and several figures walked out from it. Gustavo was taken aback by the five A rank auras that he felt from the various people. Three of them were humans while the other two were White Millipedes, but Gustavo did not know the difference and assumed that all of them were humans.
One of the White Haired A ranks, a White Millipede, walked over to Gustavo. The White Millipede was only at Mid A rank, but that was a powerhouse on his own in most parts of the world.
“Greetings, Gustavo. We are here to provide aid for your Fort Bender under the directives of our Lord Father. My name is Reeve, I am the leader of the delegation that is being dispatched to assist Fort Bender in the coming times.” Reeve introduced himself and shook hands with Gustavo.
“A pleasure to meet you, Reeve.” Gustavo hurriedly shook Reeve’s hand. He did the same for the four others before turning back to the space gate when he felt more fluctuations. From it, a steady stream of people marched out. Most of them were white haired, and it was only then that Gustavo recalled that part of Leon’s most fervent supporters and servants were white haired. He recalled that they were known as the White Millipedes.
‘So, they are not human, huh?’ He thought to himself but did not voice his questions.
Before long, five thousand B rank soldiers had passed through the portal. The portal glowed and shimmered with power but no one else passed through.
“For now, these five thousand B rank soldiers, as well as Nico and his team will be helping in Fort Bender’s defense alongside us. I hope that is fine.” Reeve turned back to Gustavo.
“That is more than enough! This force can even topple Fort Bender. We only have about two hundred B ranks in the Fort and people see us as formidable! Is this the difference between an Empire and a City State?!” Gustavo was ecstatic. He had only been expecting about a hundred B ranks after seeing Reeve and the four other A ranks, but five thousand?! Five thousand was more than enough!
“Good, we had thought that they would not be enough.” Reeve and his fellow White Millipedes exchanged a relieved look.
“Hmm? Why? Five A ranks is a force strong enough to act as the backbone of any kingdom! This is just a city state! Not to mention five thousand B ranks! This is more than enough! In fact, I was expecting just a hundred!” Gustavo was surprised by their words.
“Well, our Lord Father always spoke of how he owed you, and we did not want to disappoint. It is good that you see this as enough.” Reeve nodded his head slightly with a smile.
