Chapter 328 The Labyrinth Of Madness - Setting A Trap
Leon did not have to wait long before he got to witness the might that the rock eye was capable of. The yellow glow of the slit in the center thrummed with power and pulsed once before a blinding beam of golden light that was as thick as buildings shot out.
BOOOM!
A gigantic trench was torn through the earth, leaving a glowing trail of molten earth that combusted a moment later, causing untold devastation.
Thousands of summons, both undead and Demonic, were killed in mere moments. Leon stared at the sight of devastation with a slack jaw. He had expected a truly powerful move, but this was too ridiculous! He quickly recalled all the summons that were in the areas that were in the trajectory of the attack. He quickly redeployed them elsewhere to save him the cost of summoning them again from scratch.
The beam of golden light lasted a few more seconds before finally ceasing its devastation. By this point, the dust that had been stirred from the attack on Artox had finally settled. The Diamond Pangolin King was surprisingly fine! He had come out from the attack with some injuries, but compared to what Leon had expected, this was much better than the alternative!
Artox had only come out with a few burn marks and some cracked scales. Blood ran down the side of his face, but he held strong. He looked at the devastation around him with a sort of detached look before turning his attention back to Onyx up in the sky.
“If you think that is enough to stop me, then think again!” He declared before turning into a ball and dashing forward. Onyx turned his gaze to Artox with the look of someone who was being annoyed by a fly. He sighed and stood up from his throne, leaving behind a dark silhouette of himself. It acted as a substitute of himself to control the stone eye.
“Fine, then. If you want me to personally handle you, I’ll do just that!” The Demonic boss answered before flapping his wings and teleporting right in front of Artox. His arm was cocked back and ready to unleash a devastating punch, but right before he could, a strange force of gravity acted upon his body and he was thrown to the ground.
“What?! Gravity?!” Onyx was shocked. Before he could adapt and recover, a copious amount of explosive spells landed on his body, creating a large mushroom crowd.
Artox had rolled away the moment Onyx was thrown to the ground, so he was lucky enough to not be caught in the blast radius. He was shocked, however, as a large number of spells rained non-stop on Onyx’s location.
Artox was stunned even further when he felt a certain distinct energy type in the atmosphere. He looked up, and lo and behold, a storm of energy, Holy energy to be specific, was brewing! A dozen hooded Undead mages stood apart from the main army of spell casters as the put together a spell that logically should not be possible! Undeads should never be able to wield Holy energy! It was the bane of their existence and could eradicate their very existences!
But despite how ridiculous it seemed to him, the Undead Priests effortlessly condensed a spell of Holy energy without any stress on their beings.
A cloud of white-gold energy condensed in the sky, turning the eyes of the many demonic summons up. They felt an instinctive threat emanating from the spell in the sky. The cloud of dust that had been risen from the bombardment of spells that was still ongoing suddenly parted and a figure rose to the sky at a quick pace.
Onyx’s eyes blazed with anger and hatred as they pinned down Leon.
“You damn Necromancer! I’ll make you suffer!” He growled angrily and dashed toward Leon, surprising Artox. The Diamond Pangolin King quickly spun around in chase of Onyx, thinking that Leon would never survive a close up fight against the Peak A rank Demonic being. After all, what Necromancer would be able to withstand so many hard hits? It was well known that mages in general were weaker in close quarters.𝗈𝐕xt.𝗇t
While this also applied to summoners like Onyx, his physical features were anything but ordinary. The bodies of Demons were remarkably sturdy, which granted him more leeway than most other beings. Not only that, but he was also a being that stood at the top of the food chain not only in the dungeon, but also outside in the world. Close quarters combat was no problem to him.
Because of these points, Onyx did not fear getting embroiled in a close quarters battle. He readily rushed to Leon, while knowing that Leon should not be so vulnerable at this stage. However, he did not care. After all, the gap between himself and Leon was too large. A skeleton was weaker than a Demon. It was that simple.
What Onyx and Artox did not expect, however, was for Leon to not only refuse to retreat, but also prepare himself to fight back!
Perhaps he had felt that the time was too short for him to escape Onyx, or maybe he had resigned his fate. But it did not shake their surprise.
“Jumping into the jaws of death? I’ll gladly welcome you!” Onyx opened his arms wide as he finally got within range of Leon. His arms blurred forward, however, before he could get Leon, the space around him fluctuated as he was forcibly teleported to a different location.
“What?!” Onyx was surprised.
Caw!
An indignant bird cry was heard just before dozens of lightning bolts struck down on his head, followed by a short barrage of spells. At this time, the spell that the Undead Priests had been brewing was finally ready. Onyx had been teleported right under the spell which was about to launch.
“NO!” He called out and his doppelganger that he had left on the throne in the slit of the rock eye moved. The rock eye had been charging ever since, but now it was ready. It blazed with power at the same time that a white beam of Holy energy shot down from the sky. Two beams of light collided in the sky, creating a massive cluster of energy that swelled and exploded a moment later!
Onyx flapped his wings and teleported away from there quickly, only to be met with a giant silver greatsword heading from his neck.
Clang!
Onyx held up his arms and a black bone armor grew over his forearms, blocking that attack. However, he was not able to displace the kinetic force that slammed into him, sending him flying away.
Aristodemus wished to follow, but a red streak flashed past him as Nero darted forward and jumped into the air. He appeared over Onyx and stabbed the two greatswords in his hands down, causing them to crash against the armor that Onyx had conjured in a moment’s notice. The force sent him crashing down into the ground.
Bzzt!
A pillar of lightning as thick as a skyscraper back on Earth slammed down on Onyx, courtesy of Kaladin, while a giant rock that was covered in green flames crashed down on the spot before detonating with enough force to rival the explosion that Onyx had unleashed on Artox’s head earlier. Another rain of spells arc through the sky and joined in on the explosion, making it grow even larger and larger.
Leon watched it all happen from the distance with a smirk on his face. He had intentionally not acted out to lure Onyx in at the right moment and trap him like this. Now, he just needed to keep up the heat and they would be able to defeat this powerful foe.
Unfortunately, it seemed Leon was too hopeful.
“HAAAAAHHH!!!” A powerful yell reached Leon’s ears before the mana and dust that was stirred up by the barrage of spells was dispersed. Even the spell in the sky was momentarily disrupted, causing a short lapse that allowed Onyx to escape.
“You… YOUUUU!!!” Onyx was standing some distance away, his back hunched. Half of his left wing was gone while the other wing drooped weakly. “HOW DARE YOU?!!!” He growled as he raised his eyes to look at Leon. The yellow irises had turned to a bloody red that mirrored his rage. In the sky, the yellow of the rock eye also began to turn into a bright crimson shade.
