The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!
Chapter 46: The Name I Left Behind
The archive doors slammed shut.
The sound echoed through the underground palace like a declaration and for several seconds, nobody moved.
The crystal in front of Sol continued to glow. Their father’s voice had stopped after those final words.
"...perhaps it’s time you both learned why I had to disappear."
Rin stared at the crystal.
Then at Sol. Sol stared back. Neither of them spoke.
The palace trembled again. Dust fell from the ceiling.
Kaelith immediately moved toward Rin, placing himself between him and the sealed entrance.
Noctis looked toward the corridor they had come through. Eryon remained completely still.
Rin finally broke the silence.
"Well."
Sol looked at him.
"Well what?"
Rin pointed at the crystal.
"Our father really knows how to make an entrance."
Sol sighed.
"Apparently."
Another tremor shook the room. Rin looked toward the sealed doors.
"Are we trapped?"
Kaelith examined the stone.
"For the moment."
"Great."
Rin looked back at the crystal.
"So we have an ancient underground archive, a dead kingdom waking up above us, a sealed door, and a message from our father that basically says he has secrets."
Sol nodded.
"That’s accurate."
Rin sighed.
"I miss normal problems."
Noctis gave him a faint smile.
"You have never had normal problems."
"That’s not helpful."
"I wasn’t trying to be."
Rin looked at the crystal again. The voice of his father had vanished but something remained.
A faint golden glow underneath the recording.
Rin stepped closer.
"Wait."
Everyone looked at him. He pointed.
"There’s something else."
Sol moved beside him. The crystal had begun displaying symbols. One after another.
Ancient characters appeared across its surface. Rin didn’t recognize them.
And yet...he understood them.
Not with his mind. With something deeper. He whispered:
"That’s a name."
Eryon’s expression changed.
"Rin."
Rin ignored him. The symbols continued appearing. The first part was clear.
AEL
Then another symbol appeared. Rin’s breath caught. It wasn’t a letter he knew but when he saw it, a strange warmth moved through his chest.
"Ael..."
He couldn’t finish. The crystal flickered. The second symbol disappeared.
Rin frowned.
"Why did it stop?"
Sol examined the crystal.
"Something is blocking it."
"Can you remove it?"
"I can try."
Sol placed his hand against the crystal. Nothing happened. He tried again. The crystal rejected him.
Sol frowned.
"That’s strange."
Rin looked at him.
"What?"
"This isn’t System magic."
"What is it?"
Sol shook his head.
"I don’t know."
Rin stared at the symbols.
"But I do."
Everyone became silent. Rin looked surprised by his own words.
"You do?" Kaelith asked.
Rin nodded slowly.
"I don’t know how..."
He touched the crystal.
"...but I know what this is."
The moment his fingers touched the surface, golden light spread through the room.
The symbols changed.
The incomplete name appeared again.
AEL—
Then beneath it:
THE GOD WHO BINDS THE UNBOUND.
Rin stared.
"What does that mean?"
Eryon answered quietly.
"It means your authority."
Rin looked at him.
"My authority?"
Eryon nodded.
"Gods don’t simply have names."
"I know."
"They have divine authorities."
Rin looked back at the crystal.
"And mine was... Connection."
Eryon hesitated.
"Love."
Rin remained silent. Somewhere inside him, something stirred.
He remembered sunlight. A garden. A thousand flowers opening at once.
People crying. People laughing. Hands reaching for each other.
Promises. Goodbyes. A feeling so enormous that Rin couldn’t understand how one soul could contain it.
He stepped backward. Kaelith caught his arm.
"Rin."
"I’m fine."
Kaelith didn’t release him immediately.
"You went pale."
"I saw something."
"What?"
Rin looked at his hand.
"A temple."
Noctis’s expression became thoughtful.
"Your temple?"
Rin nodded.
"I think so."
Then another memory surfaced. A white robe. Golden wings. A crown made of light. And a voice.
"Your Grace."
Rin opened his eyes.
"I wasn’t just a god of love."
Eryon watched him carefully.
"No."
"What else was I?"
Eryon didn’t answer. Rin looked at him.
"You know."
Eryon sighed.
"I know some things."
"Then tell me."
"It’s not that simple."
Rin’s expression hardened.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
Eryon gave him a tired smile.
"Because sometimes it isn’t."
Rin turned away. He wasn’t angry. Not exactly.
He was frustrated. There was a difference. He had spent so many lives believing he was simply Rin.
A human, a person who had somehow become involved with demons, gods, curses and impossible worlds and now he was learning that even the name he had carried for so long wasn’t really his.
He looked down at himself.
"Who named me Rin?"
Eryon answered immediately.
"Your mother."
Rin froze.
"My mother?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because your original name couldn’t be spoken."
Rin looked toward him.
"Why not?"
Eryon’s expression became serious.
"Because a complete divine name is power."
Rin looked at the crystal.
"So someone removed part of mine."
"Yes."
"Who?"
Eryon hesitated.
"I don’t know."
Rin studied him. Eryon continued.
"Not completely."
That answer satisfied Rin more than a simple denial would have.
"What do you remember?"
Eryon looked at the glowing symbols.
"I remember that your name was longer."
"How much longer?"
"I don’t know."
"Do you remember the beginning?"
Eryon nodded.
"Part of it."
Rin waited.
Eryon looked at him.
"Ael."
Rin’s heart skipped.
"So AEL really is the beginning."
"Possibly."
Rin frowned.
"Possibly?"
"The fragment survived."
"What does that mean?"
"Something happened to the rest."
"What?"
Eryon looked toward the sealed door.
"It was divided."
Rin stared at him.
"By the curse?"
"No."
That answer came quickly. Rin’s eyes narrowed.
"Then by what?"
Eryon didn’t respond. The crystal suddenly flickered. A new line appeared.
THE NAME WAS NOT DESTROYED.
Rin stepped closer. Another line appeared.
IT WAS SCATTERED.
His heart began beating faster.
"Scattered..."
The symbols shifted. A final message appeared.
ONE FRAGMENT REMAINS WITH THE SOUL.
Rin touched his chest.
"Me."
The crystal glowed.
ONE FRAGMENT REMAINS IN THE WORLD.
Rin looked around.
"The World?"
No answer.
Then:
ONE FRAGMENT WAS GIVEN TO ANOTHER.
Silence.
Rin’s expression changed.
"Another person?"
The crystal went dark. Sol looked at him.
"Maybe."
Rin frowned.
"Who?"
Nothing.
"Of course."
He sighed.
"Why does everything have to stop right before the important part?"
Noctis smiled slightly.
"Perhaps because the person who created these records didn’t want anyone learning everything at once."
Rin looked at him.
"That’s suspiciously reasonable."
"I’ve had centuries to practice."
Rin smiled.
For a moment, the tension eased. Then the crystal came alive again.
This time, a small image appeared. A child. A little boy.
He was sitting alone beneath a tree. Rin stopped breathing.
He knew him, not from the current life, from somewhere much older.
The child looked frightened. His clothes were torm, his face was dirty.
He was completely alone. Then someone entered the image.
Rin.
Not human Rin. His divine self. White robes. Golden wings. He crouched in front of the child. The little boy looked up.
"Are you a god?"
The divine Rin smiled.
"That’s what they call me."
The child stared.
"Are you going to leave too?"
Rin’s heart tightened. The divine version of himself shook his head.
"No."
The image faded. Rin remained completely still. Sol looked at him.
"Rin?"
Rin whispered:
"I remember him."
Noctis lowered his eyes. Kaelith remained silent. Eryon said nothing.
Rin touched his forehead.
"The child."
He remembered now. Not everything. Just fragments. A small hand holding his finger. A tiny voice asking questions. A boy who had been terrified of sleeping alone.
Rin sitting beside him until he fell asleep. Rin teaching him to read. Rin bringing him food. Rin listening to him talk for hours. Rin protecting him. Rin laughing when the child tried to act serious.
And then...leaving.
Rin’s eyes widened.
"I knew him?"
Noctis nodded.
"Yes."
"Before you."
"Yes."
Rin looked at Eryon.
"You knew."
Eryon nodded.
"Yes."
"Sol?"
Sol looked confused.
"What?"
"You knew too?"
"I knew that you had memories involving him."
Rin stared.
"But you didn’t know who."
"No."
Rin looked at the image again.
The child. The orphan. The one who would eventually become the God of this world.
Rin’s voice became quiet.
"He was five."
Eryon nodded.
"Yes."
"I took care of him."
"Yes."
"For years."
"Yes."
Rin closed his eyes.
"I stayed until he was eleven."
No one spoke. He remembered. He remembered the day he had to leave.
The child had cried. Rin had promised he would return, but time passed differently between worlds.
And when they met again... Rin had been a god. The child had become something else.
And Rin had looked into his eyes... without remembering him.
Rin opened his eyes.
"That’s why."
Noctis looked at him.
"Why what?"
"The way he looked at me."
Rin remembered the first time they had met again. The God had looked at him as though seeing a ghost.
As though waiting for Rin to recognize him. Rin hadn’t understood. Now he did.
"He remembered me."
Eryon nodded.
"Yes."
"And I didn’t remember him."
"No."
Rin lowered his head.
"That must have hurt."
Eryon said nothing.
Rin stared at the floor.
"I didn’t forget him because I wanted to."
"No."
"I didn’t abandon him."
"No."
"I simply..."
He swallowed.
"...didn’t remember."
Eryon nodded.
"That is what happened."
Rin remained silent. Then the crystal changed again. The image disappeared. The letters returned.
AEL
Then another symbol. This time, Rin could read it.
He didn’t know how. But he could.
AELION
Rin’s breath stopped.
"Aelion..."
The name sounded strange coming from his mouth.
And yet... it felt right.
Not complete. But closer.
A wave of warmth passed through his body. The golden mark on his forehead appeared for a brief second.
Six translucent wings flashed behind him. Everyone froze.
Rin himself didn’t notice until Sol whispered:
"Rin..."
He turned.
"What?"
Sol stared behind him. The wings disappeared.
Rin blinked.
"Did you see that?"
Kaelith nodded.
"Yes."
Rin looked at Noctis. Noctis was staring at him with an expression Rin couldn’t understand.
Not fear. Not surprise. Recognition.
Rin looked at his hands.
"Aelion."
The moment he said the name, the entire archive responded. Every crystal lit up. Every ancient book opened. Golden light filled the chamber and a single sentence appeared across every wall.
AELION — THE FIRST NAME OF THE GOD OF LOVE.
Rin stared. The words seemed impossible.
The God of Love. His former self. Aelion.
He whispered the name again.
"Aelion."
This time, the world answered. A distant bell rang. Not the strange sound he would one day learn to recognize.
This was different. Ancient. Divine. The sound echoed through the Lost Realm.
Above them, the dead soldiers raised their heads. The ruined kingdom trembled. And far away, beyond the boundaries of the realm... someone opened their eyes.
Rin didn’t know who. He didn’t know why but he felt something.
Someone had heard him say the name.
His name.
A name that had been hidden for countless lives.
Aelion.
The God of Love.
The one who had existed before this world. The one whose soul had crossed worlds.
The one whose death had never been fully explained and the one whose name had been broken apart for a reason Rin still didn’t understand.
The crystal slowly dimmed. One final message appeared.
REMEMBER THE NAME.
DO NOT REMEMBER THE DEATH.
Rin stared. His smile disappeared.
"Why?"
No answer came. He looked at Eryon. Eryon looked away.
Rin looked at Noctis. Noctis remained silent.
Kaelith frowned. Sol looked at the crystal.
Everyone seemed to know something but this time Rin didn’t ask.
He had learned something important. His name was Aelion. Not Rin.
Rin was the name this world had given him. Aelion was the name his soul had carried from another world.
And somewhere inside that forgotten identity was the answer to everything.
Rin slowly closed his hand.
"We’ll find the rest."
Sol nodded.
"Together."
Kaelith gave a quiet nod. Noctis looked at him.
And Eryon...smiled sadly.
Because he knew something Rin didn’t.
Aelion was not the complete name.
It was only the first piece.
And the second piece was the one that could change everything.
