For several seconds, Rin couldn’t breathe.

There was nothing around them. No walls. No floor. No ceiling. Only darkness.

And beneath that darkness—

two enormous eyes.

They stared directly at Rin. Kaelith stood in front of him, black magic spreading around his body like a shield.

"Don’t come closer."

The creature laughed. Its voice didn’t come from one direction. It came from everywhere.

"You still think you can protect him."

Kaelith’s expression hardened.

"I don’t think."

His magic intensified.

"I know."

Rin grabbed his arm.

"Kaelith."

"Stay behind me."

"But we don’t even know what that thing is."

"I don’t care."

The creature’s eyes narrowed.

"That is your problem."

A low vibration passed through the darkness. Rin felt it beneath his feet. Except there was no ground.

He looked down. For a brief second, something became visible beneath them.

A gigantic surface. Almost like black glass.

And beneath that surface—

countless shapes.

Rin’s stomach tightened.

"Kaelith..."

"What?"

"Look."

Kaelith lowered his gaze. His expression changed. There were silhouettes beneath them.

Hundreds.

Maybe thousands. They looked like people. But none of them moved.

Rin whispered:

"What is this place?"

The creature answered.

"A grave."

Rin froze.

"A grave for what?"

The eyes slowly moved toward Kaelith.

"Everything your world forgot."

Kaelith’s magic immediately struck the darkness. A violent explosion illuminated the space. For one instant, Rin saw the creature.

Then the light vanished. Rin’s eyes widened. He hadn’t seen a body.

Only something enormous. Something impossible. Something that seemed to exist outside the shape of a living creature.

Kaelith stared into the darkness.

"You’re not a god..."

The creature laughed.

"No."

"Then what are you?"

A long silence followed.

"The place where gods put what they could no longer control."

Rin felt a chill. The creature continued.

"Names.Memories. Souls. Promises. Failures. Everything they wanted forgotten."

Rin slowly looked around.

The darkness suddenly made sense. This wasn’t simply an underground chamber.

It was a place where erased things were stored. Things that World had removed from the world above.

Rin’s voice became quiet.

"Then why am I here?"

The creature looked at him.

"Because you were never completely erased."

Rin froze. Kaelith immediately stepped closer to him.

"What does that mean?"

The creature ignored him.

Its gaze remained fixed on Rin.

"Aelion was removed. Rin was created. But the soul remained."

Rin’s heart pounded.

"So this place..."

"Remembered you."

Silence. Kaelith’s expression darkened.

"You knew he would come here?"

"Eventually."

"How?"

"Because every time the world erased him, something remained."

The creature paused.

"A trace."

Rin felt his chest tighten.

"What trace?"

The creature answered:

"You."

Rin stared. He didn’t understand. The creature continued.

"You are the part of Aelion that World couldn’t destroy."

Kaelith’s expression changed.

Rin looked at his own hands.

"But I’m Rin...a human..."

"Yes."

"And Aelion?"

"Also you."

Rin closed his eyes. He had heard it before. But this time it felt different.

Not like someone telling him who he was. Like something inside him finally accepting it.

He was Rin. But somewhere inside Rin—

Aelion still existed.

A life. A name. A history. A person he had once been.

Kaelith quietly asked:

"Then why does he remember nothing?"

The creature’s eyes moved toward him.

"Because memory is not the same as identity."

Kaelith frowned.

"He doesn’t need to remember to remain himself."

Rin looked at Kaelith. The words affected him more than he expected.

Kaelith continued.

"That’s why he’s still Rin?"

The creature was silent. Then it laughed.

"You finally understand."

Kaelith’s eyes narrowed.

"Understand what?"

"Why World was never truly afraid of his memories."

Rin’s heart stopped.

"Then what was World afraid of?"

The creature’s eyes shifted toward him.

"Choice."

Silence. Rin swallowed.

"What choice?"

The creature looked at Kaelith.

Then back at Rin.

"Aelion was supposed to belong to the gods."

Rin’s expression hardened.

"I don’t belong to anyone."

The creature smiled.

"Exactly."

Kaelith’s magic slowly faded. Rin stared into the darkness.

"Then why did they create the vessel?"

The creature didn’t answer immediately. When it finally spoke, its voice was quieter.

"Because they were afraid you would choose someone they could not control."

Rin’s heart tightened. Kaelith looked at him. The creature continued.

"So they created someone who would always choose you. But also obey them."

Rin understood. The vessel. A perfect answer. A perfect lover. Someone created specifically to stay beside him.

Someone who would never choose differently. Someone whose emotions had been decided before he even opened his eyes.

Rin’s expression darkened.

"They didn’t create him because they loved me."

"No."

"They created him because they were afraid of who I might choose."

"Yes."

Kaelith’s fists tightened.

"And who did Aelion choose?"

The creature went silent. Rin looked at it.

"Answer."

The darkness seemed to tremble. Then the creature said:

"That is the one memory World has tried hardest to destroy."

Kaelith’s eyes widened.

"Who?"

The creature looked at him.

"You already know."

Kaelith froze. Rin looked at him. The creature continued.

"You simply haven’t remembered what you were called."

Kaelith’s breathing became heavier.

"No."

The creature laughed.

"You keep searching for your first name."

A pause.

"But that is not what you’re missing."

Kaelith stared into the darkness.

"Then what am I missing?"

The creature answered:

"The reason Aelion chose you."

Rin’s heart began pounding. Kaelith said nothing. The creature continued.

"And when you remember that..."

The darkness around them began to crack.

"...you will understand why World has spent so many lives separating you."

Rin grabbed Kaelith’s hand.

Kaelith looked at him. For once, neither of them said anything.

Then—

a distant sound echoed through the darkness.

A scream.

Rin immediately recognized the voice.

"Sol."

Kaelith turned. Another scream followed.

"RIN!"

Rin’s eyes widened.

"They’re in trouble."

Kaelith’s magic exploded around him.

"We’re going back."

The creature laughed.

"You cannot."

Kaelith looked toward it.

"Watch me."

He released his magic. The darkness shattered. For one brief moment, hundreds of paths appeared around them.

Each one led somewhere different. Some showed fragments of ancient cities. Others showed pieces of Heaven.

One showed the ruined castle of the Fallen God. Another showed the underground prison.

And one—

one showed Sol, Lucien, Kaan, and the others.

Rin pointed.

"There!"

Kaelith grabbed his hand.

"Hold on."

They jumped. The moment they crossed into the path—

the creature spoke one final time.

"Aelion."

Rin looked back. The enormous eyes were already disappearing.

"When you finally remember why you chose Kaelith..."

The darkness closed behind them.

"...you will also remember why the gods regretted letting you meet."

Rin’s vision went white.

And somewhere far above—

the first bell of Heaven began to ring.
