Chapter 105: The Voice Beyond the Chains

Far beyond the mountains, beyond the borders of the world Rin knew, there was a place where time had stopped.

There was no sky, no ground that could be called ground, no light. Only darkness and in the middle of that darkness stood an enormous prison.

Its walls were made from something darker than stone, covered in ancient symbols that moved whenever World passed through them.

Inside the deepest cell, a man was chained. Massive chains wrapped around his body, extending from the walls and disappearing into the darkness above.

They were not ordinary chains. They were restraints created to hold something that should never have been able to exist.

The man lowered his head. His breathing was slow. Exhausted.

Yet his eyes remained open. He was waiting as he always had.

Then the darkness changed. A presence entered the prison.

The chains immediately tightened. The man lifted his head.

World stood before him. There was no face. No body that could be properly understood.

Only an overwhelming presence. Cold. Ancient and filled with hatred.

"You."

The chained man said nothing. World moved closer.

"Look at what you have done."

The man slowly raised his eyes.

"What have I done?"

The answer came like thunder.

"Everything."

The chains violently pulled against him.

"If you had never existed, none of this would have happened."

The man’s expression remained calm.

"You’ve said that before."

"Because it remains true."

"You blame me for everything?"

"Because you are responsible."

The man laughed quietly not because anything was funny. Because he had heard those accusations for so long that they had almost become familiar.

"You erased the timeline."

"Because of you."

"You erased Rin."

"Because of you."

"You erased his memories."

"Because of you."

The chained man closed his eyes.

World’s voice became louder.

"Every time he returns, everything begins again. Every time he finds Kaelith, the same mistakes begin again. Every time he starts remembering, I have to erase him."

The man’s eyes opened.

"And you think I wanted that?"

"You caused it."

"I didn’t."

"Liar."

The prison shook. The chains tightened again. The man winced but didn’t look away.

"You know nothing about what happened."

World’s presence became heavier.

"I know everything."

"No."

The man smiled faintly.

"You know what you chose to remember."

Silence. For the first time, World said nothing.

The man continued.

"You erased the world. You erased the people. You erased the timeline. And then you blamed me because you couldn’t erase the reason it happened."

World’s presence surged.

"SILENCE."

The entire prison trembled. The chained man simply stared back.

"I won’t."

A long silence followed. Then World spoke again.

"If you had not interfered, Rin would never have returned."

The man’s expression changed. For the first time, there was something fierce in his eyes.

"You’re wrong."

"You brought him into this cycle."

"I protected him."

"You cursed him."

"I loved him."

The words echoed through the prison. World became silent.

The man lowered his head.

"That is what you never understood."

His voice was tired.

"I never wanted Rin to become trapped in these worlds. I never wanted him to lose his memories. I never wanted Kaelith to lose everything. I never wanted any of this."

World answered coldly.

"And yet you created it."

The man closed his eyes.

"I made one choice."

"One choice that destroyed everything."

"Yes."

He didn’t deny it.

"I made a choice."

World moved closer.

"Then admit it."

The man looked up.

"I regret what happened."

"Not enough."

"I regret that I couldn’t protect him."

"Not enough."

"I regret that Rin had to suffer."

"Not enough."

The man’s expression hardened.

"But I don’t regret loving him."

World became completely still.

The chains rattled softly.

"You can erase every timeline. You can erase every memory. You can erase every world. But you cannot make me regret him."

World’s voice became almost a whisper.

"You are still obsessed with him."

The man smiled sadly.

"Perhaps."

"He doesn’t even remember you."

"I know."

"He doesn’t remember your name."

"I know."

"He doesn’t remember what you sacrificed."

"I know."

"He doesn’t remember loving you."

The man closed his eyes. That one hurt. But he still smiled.

"He doesn’t need to remember."

World’s presence grew colder.

"Then why do you keep waiting?"

The man looked into the darkness beyond the prison.

"Because he always comes back."

"And I always erase him."

"Yes."

"Then you will wait forever."

The man looked at World.

"If I have to."

World’s voice shook the prison.

"YOU WILL NEVER BE WITH RIN AGAIN."

The chains tightened violently. The man lowered his head, but his expression didn’t break.

"Maybe."

His voice was barely audible.

"But I don’t need to be beside him."

He looked toward the darkness.

"I only need him to live."

World remained silent. The man continued.

"That is the difference between us. You erase him because you’re afraid of what he’ll remember. I wait because I want him to have a life."

World’s presence became almost unbearable.

"You think this is noble?"

"No."

The man smiled faintly.

"I think it’s the only thing I can still do. When you love someone."

World moved directly in front of him.

"You are the reason he suffers."

The man’s eyes lowered. Perhaps that accusation hurt more than all the others. After a long silence, he whispered:

"Then why does he keep searching for me?"

World said nothing. The man raised his head.

"You erased his memories. You erased his past. You erased my name. His name too."

He smiled.

"And yet..."

His eyes filled with quiet certainty.

"...he still heard my voice. Remember Kaelith is me, do can erase my name, but never who I am for him."

For the first time, World became completely silent. The chained man closed his eyes.

Far away, in another world, Rin was still standing beneath the night sky.

He didn’t understand the strange feeling in his chest.

He didn’t know who had called him. He didn’t know what the name Ael meant and he certainly didn’t remember the man trapped beyond the boundaries of the world.

But the chained man knew. Rin had heard him.

World had failed to stop that one small connection.

The man whispered into the darkness:

"My love..."

The chains tightened once more. World’s voice returned, filled with hatred.

"He will forget you again."

The man smiled.

"Then I’ll wait again."

"And again."

"Yes."

"And again."

"Yes."

World’s presence disappeared into the darkness.

The prison became silent. The chained man remained alone. Bound by enormous chains. Forgotten by the world. Erased from history.

Yet his eyes remained open. Because somewhere beyond those endless walls...

Rin was still alive and for him, that was enough.
