Chapter 142: Are You Dating Him?
Chapter 142: Are You Dating Him?
"Zach..." Sienna whispered softly. Worry and confusion filled her eyes at the same time as she looked up at him. "Can you wait in my bedroom?"
Zachary fell silent as though genuinely considering her request.
But, several seconds later, he shook his head.
"I’ll go out for a while," he said calmly. "And return tonight to hear your answer."
The words made Sienna freeze instantly, remembering his proposal, which she had not yet answered.
Her heartbeat faltered so abruptly that she nearly forgot Ava and Riley were just a few feet away, watching everything like a confused audience.
She briefly stared at him before swiftly returning to her usual composure.
A small smile appeared on her lips. "Okay."
Only after Zachary left the apartment and the door closed behind him did Sienna finally allow herself to focus fully on the two disasters standing in her living room.
Unfortunately, Ava and Riley did not wait politely for permission to enter.
The moment Zachary disappeared, they walked inside as though they had already been upgraded to investigators assigned to her case.
Before Sienna could even open her mouth, they dragged her toward the seating area.
"Come, come... Explain this scandal to us..." Riley said in his playful voice.
"Riley— Ava— stop forcing me!"
"No," Ava interrupted immediately, pulling her down onto the sofa. "You answer first."
Riley crossed his arms, staring at her with dramatic seriousness that somehow made the entire situation even worse.
"Sienna," he began slowly, "would you like to explain why my uncle was opening your apartment door?"
Her head snapped toward him.
’Wait... Riley calls Zachary Uncle?’ Sienna was utterly shocked to hear that.
But before Sienna could ask Riley about it, Ava spoke.
"And why did Zachary Sterling look comfortable enough to open the door for us as if this were his house?" Ava added suspiciously.
Sienna opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again as no words could escape her lips. She was utterly speechless, unsure where to start explaining to them.
Riley leaned slightly forward. "Sienna, tell us, how long have you known him?"
Ava immediately followed, "...And are you two dating? Since when? I mean, it’s impossible to bring a man into your house if he was not your date, right?"
Riley agreed with Ava. He nodded and said, "Yeah! That’s right!"
The questions came so quickly that Sienna suddenly felt tired again. She gently pressed her hand against her forehead.
"Seriously? Can you both slow down with your interrogation? I’ve had enough when I was at the police station. So, perhaps, we should discuss something else?"
"NO!" They answered together.
Sienna sighs in silence, knowing there is no way she could escape this.
Slowly, she lifted her gaze toward them. "Fine. The answer is yes," she admitted carefully. "Yes, I know Zachary Sterling."
Riley narrowed his eyes. "How well do you know him?"
Sienna didn’t rush to answer him. She stood from her seat and walked toward her kitchen.
"Let’s talk without being thirsty. Coffee or water?" she offered them.
"Wine!" they both reply in unison, almost causing Sienna to trip over her own feet.
She shook her head, took two bottles of water from her fridge, and then returned to join them in the seating area.
"Here, sober people’s white wine..." she said sarcastically, placing it on the table.
But neither Riley nor Ava even bothered to look at the water bottle; their attention was focused solely on Sienna.
"Miss Sienna, stop stalling time," Riley said playfully while leaning back in his chair, looking far too relaxed for someone conducting what felt like a private investigation. "...Explain to us how you met Zachary Sterling and exactly how far your relationship with him has gone."
Sienna narrowed her eyes at both Riley and Ava. "You two, seriously? You only came here to ask me that?"
"Girl, of course not," Ava replied with fake thoughtfulness before a laugh slipped out of her mouth. "But now, with Zachary Sterling in your place, all other matters must wait."
"See?" Riley pointed at Ava proudly. "Priorities."
Sienna let out a long sigh and lifted both hands in surrender. "Fine. You both win. I met him by chance a few months ago—"
She stopped halfway through her sentence, suddenly remembering.
"No. Not a few months ago. But, a few weeks ago."
The silence that followed lasted exactly two seconds.
"You only met him a few weeks ago..." Riley stared at her in disbelief. "...but you already brought him to your house?"
"Wow, girl..." Ava clapped dramatically, her face brimming with admiration. "You’re so damn cool. You move faster than lightning... Hahaha, I like this romance drama!"
"Ava, focus," Riley complained immediately. "We need information. Don’t praise her yet."
Ava pressed her lips together, clearly fighting the urge to keep celebrating. But in the end, she gestured toward Riley with both hands, like a game show host handing over the microphone to the next interrogator.
Riley turned back toward Sienna. His expression softened slightly, but his tone turned more serious. "Sienna... are you dating him?"
"I can’t answer you that—"
"Why?" Riley asked without missing a beat.
"Because he didn’t ask me to date him. He asked me to marry him." The words rose straight to Sienna’s throat. Then those words stopped there.
Instead, she looked directly at him. "Riley Sterling?" she asked slowly. "That’s your real name?"
Riley frowned.
"...Come on, girl. Don’t change the subject."
"Answer me first before I answer your question."
Her voice turned serious enough that Riley immediately knew she would not budge.
After everything Zachary had pulled with hiding his identity, Sienna had no intention of getting tricked again. Besides... She was already uncomfortable enough knowing Riley called Zachary "uncle."
If she accepted Zachary’s proposal... Good lord. Riley would call her "Aunty Sienna."
The thought alone nearly gave her goosebumps.
"Yes, he lied to us," Ava answered before Riley could speak. "He’s one of the Sterlings. William Sterling’s firstborn son."
Sienna blinked hard and shifted her gaze from Ava to Riley. Unbelievable. This man had spent all this time acting like his family owned a modest little business...? But the truth is, his family practically owned half the country.
"Unbelievable, Riley..." Sienna said with a disbelieving chuckle. "Now I understand why you managed to turn everything around when Mia and I were almost fired. You could’ve fired the HRD Director if you wanted."
