Chapter 44: The Mall Girl In Ferrari.
Chapter 44: Chapter 44: The Mall Girl In Ferrari.
Inside the laundry room, the housekeeper and Zoe were discussing.
Zoe was folding Maya’s towels, while the housekeeper was ironing Madam’s long silk gown.
The housekeeper said, "you have been working for Madam for a long time now. How is it?"
Zoe smiled. Her face was bright.
"Honestly, ever since I started working for Madam Flora, my life became a testimony," Zoe said.
"How?" the housekeeper asked.
"Madam changed my life.. My family lived in an incomplete building for three years with no roof, but now it’s complete ,all because of Madam." Zoe said.
The housekeeper shouted "Really? You finished it?"
"Yes,! Madam pays well and if you work for six months, she gives extra," Zoe said.
The housekeeper dropped the iron for a second and looked at her seriously.
"Let me tell you the truth. Even the man that wanted to marry me, I called off the engagement," Zoe said.
The housekeeper was shocked.
"What? Why?" She asked.
"Because I intend to work for Madam Flora for a long time," the housekeeper explained. "I told him, ’If you want me to stop working and come get married to you , I cannot.’ I have about three properties back home,i want to stay here and acquire more."
You are wise,_man and woman are like two fires. More money, they unite ,no money, they consume each other. The housekeeper said_
"Wow! Exactly my point.
The housekeeper shook her head slowly.
"That mall girl looks suspicious," the housekeeper said in a deep voice. "With the way she immediately wants Madam to employ her because of the shopping spree. I don’t trust her.
Zoe thought about it.
_It is true. The way that girl looked at Our shopping bags... it was not like a poor girl. It was like someone who was calculating. Maybe she just wanted the luxury life.
Just then, they both saw Grace coming from the kitchen side. She was walking fast, with her phone in her hand, her face serious.
Immediately they saw Grace coming, they stopped talking . Zoe took the towels and the housekeeper carried the folded gown and they walked quickly to the other side.
Grace did not look at them. She walked straight upstairs to Madam’s room.
There was a knock on the door.
Flora didn’t look up immediately. She was sitting by the window in her room, with a cup of tea in her hand that had already gone cold. .
"Come in," she said.
The door opened and Grace entered. She was wearing her simple house uniform, her hands clasped in front of her. She smiled respectfully.
"Good morning, ma," Grace greeted.
Flora finally turned to look at her. "Good morning, Grace. How are you?"
"I’m fine, ma. Ma, sorry to disturb you," Grace said, and she brought out her phone from her apron pocket. Her face looked a little confused, a little worried. "There’s a girl calling my line."
Flora raised an eyebrow. "A girl? Which girl?"
"The girl from the mall," Grace explained quickly. She is calling me now. She said security gave her my number."
Flora listened, but she was not surprised. In fact, a small smile came to her face. She dropped her tea cup gently on the table.
"Oh, that girl," Flora said calmly. "Don’t be worried, Grace. I was the one who gave the security your number."
Grace was relieved. "You, ma?"
"Yes," Flora nodded. Her voice was soft but firm. "Yesterday at the mall,I called the chief security. I told him that if that girl comes back looking for us, he should give her your number. I knew she would not give up easily. That girl... she looked like she really needed help."
Flora’s thoughts were running deep. She remembered the girl’s eyes at the mall — not just desperate, but broken, like someone who had been standing under heavy rain for too long. She could not just drive away and forget her.
Grace listened quietly, " Okay Ma,I thought otherwise. I will send the estate address to her now.
"Okay," Flora said. "I didn’t want to give her my own direct number immediately because I don’t know who she is yet. But I also don’t want to shut her out completely. You are the safest way. If she is genuine, we will know."
No problems ,Ma
Grace nodded slowly. Now it made sense. Her madam was always kind, but also very wise.
Flora stood up from her chair and walked closer to Grace.
"Has she received the message ?" Flora asked.
"Yes, Ma. She said she is already on her way. She is coming to the estate."
"Good," Flora said, her eyes lighting up a little. "When she arrives at the estate gate, I want you to go and pick her up. Don’t let the gate security delay her.
Grace nodded again, more confidently this time. She understood the instruction perfectly.
"I understand, Ma," Grace said. "I will go and pick her up when she reaches the gate."
"Good, Grace, you can go with the Gwagon, asked Simon to give you the key" Flora said warmly.
Okay Ma, thank you.Grace smiled, turned, and left the room, holding her phone tightly, ready to guide the mall girl to the mansion.
Flora stood alone by the window again, looking out at the gate.
Flora’s phone rang.
She picked up the phone and looked at the screen. It was Mrs Thompson, from Peoria events and catering company.
Flora sighed quietly before answering.
"Hello, Mrs. Thompson," she said.
Good morning Ma ...I am deeply sorry for how the former chef behaved...this time,I found a very good person. He knows English food and French food.. I can send him to your house tomorrow morning. What do you think?"
Flora rubbed her forehead.
Flora said calmly. "Please hold on with providing a chef for the house. I am still sorting things out. I will get back to you if I need one"
Okay Ma, she said
Flora interrupted politely but firmly. "I will get back to you shortly."
She ended the call and placed the phone on the bed.
Let me have some peace. I need a chef, yes, but I will find one when I am ready.
Your chefs are badly behaved, and you still have the effrontery to call me about a chef? The audacity!
Just then, she heard a noise downstairs.
It was not the usual quiet sound of the mansion. It was laughter, plates clanking, water running, and a voice saying loudly, "Zoe, add small salt, not too much!"
Flora frowned and stood up.
What is that noise? Grace must have gone to the estate gate to pick the mall girl. Who are those making noise in the house?
She decided to go downstairs to find out. She left her bedroom and walked down the grand staircase. She got closer to the stairs and perceived the smell of fresh spices. It was a sweet smell
The smell was coming from the kitchen.
She got to the kitchen and pushed the kitchen door open gently.
She was surprised.
Inside the kitchen were Simon, Zoe, and Maya.
Simon was wearing a big white apron, already dressed like a chef. The apron was tied neatly behind him. He did not look like a driver at all. He looked like a real chef.
Zoe and Maya were beside him at the counter. Zoe was spicing the chicken, sprinkling spices and pepper carefully, while Maya was cutting fresh vegetables.
They were working like a team.
Simon saw her first and quickly straightened up.
"Madam good morning!" Simon said.
Flora looked at the three of them.
"What is going on here?" she asked.
Simon cleaned his hands with a small towel.
"Madam, since the chef is no longer working, we chose to make food for the house," Simon explained.
Good morning Ma!" it’s a Continental meal, we are using natural ingredients."Zoe quickly added.
Maya nodded.
"Yes, mom
Flora did not answer immediately. She walked closer to the cooker and looked into the pan.
Simon was making rice. The rice looked beautiful. It has chopped spring onions, shrimps and small pieces of fried egg. The colors was bright and fresh. It looks rich .
On the counter, the chicken Zoe and Maya were spicing also looked perfect.
Flora was truly surprised.
This is better than what the chefs prepared , she thought. _
She looked at Simon again.
"Simon, what are you preparing exactly?" she asked.
"Chinese fried rice and peppered chicken, ma," Simon replied. "It’s almost ready."
"Where did you learn to cook like this?" Flora asked.
Simon smiled shyly.
"My aunty, Ma. She used to cook for a Chinese restaurant before she got married . She said if a man can drive well, he should also be able to feed well."
Flora stared at the food again. Her worries about a new chef slowly started to disappear.
Has it been long Grace left.
Not quite long Mom, Maya answered.
Grace drove toward the estate. She had things to do in the house, but she didn’t want to disappoint Madam, and she didn’t want to keep the girl waiting. So she left early.
"I hope I’m not too early," she murmured, glancing at the clock. "It’s better to wait than to be waited for."
A few minutes later, she arrived. She parked the G-Wagon safely and stepped out. The morning was beautiful, with a gentle breeze touching her face.
Instead of standing at the gate, she walked to a coffee shop nearby and sat in a shaded spot where she could still see the road. She checked her phone.
No message yet.
"She hasn’t called," she said quietly. "That’s fine. I have time."
The street was lively. People walked past with shopping bags, others sat outside with drinks. Across the road, a young couple was recording a dancing video. The man held his phone while the woman danced, he laughed when she missed a step.
Grace hissed.
"Creators and their videos," she murmured. For a moment, she forgot why she was there.
She checked her phone again. Still nothing.
"I hope she doesn’t keep me here all day," she muttered, without real anger. Flora had asked her, so she would wait without complaining.
She ordered a coffee and leaned back, glancing at the road from time to time.
Less than an hour later, a powerful engine roared.
Grace turned.
A black Ferrari was gliding toward the estate gate. Sleek, polished, reflecting the sunlight. Heads turned. Even the dancing couple stopped.
"Goodness," Grace whispered. "Whoever owns this car has excellent taste; this is old money"
The car slowed and pulled over near the gate. Grace leaned forward, curious. She expected a businessman or some rich man’s child.
Then the passenger door opened.
Grace froze, her coffee cup halfway to her mouth.
It was her. The girl from the mall. She stepped out like it was the most normal thing in the world, adjusted her clothes and slammed the door behind her.
Grace blinked hard.
"No, no, no. This can’t be the same girl."
The girl’s dress was simple, but the way it sat on her body said it cost more than a fortune.
Grace slowly lowered her cup. Her mind was racing.
_Wasn’t she the poor girl from the mall? How did she end up in a Ferrari?
She stood up and changed her position.
Immediately the girl turned. Grace looked away.
"Could there be a mix up? She looked at her again...Yes..she is the mall girl same dark skin and slim figure..Grace said ,trying to hide her shock.
The girl looked around calmly, and took off her sunglasses.
Then a well-dressed man in a tailored suit stepped out of the car. He carried a pink designer handbag and handed it to her with unusual respect.
The next thing he did made Grace’s mouth fall open.
He bowed slightly.
"Take care of yourself, lovely one," he said softly. "I beg to take my leave now."
The girl didn’t even look at him. "Okay. I will keep in touch."
The man nodded, entered the Ferrari, and with a smooth roar, disappeared down the road.
Everyone at the estate gate stared.
She walked to the front of the estate and stood there.
Grace’s mouth was still open.
"A classy man can never bow to a poor girl like that, something is fishy" Grace muttered
"Who exactly is this girl?" Her eyes fixed on the gate where she stood.
"Madam wants to help her, but does she know anything about her?.
