The Billionaire Widow's Driver
Chapter 14: The Enemy Within
Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The Enemy Within
Flora stood silently by her closet, lost in thought. She could not believe Andrew had sent the chef to steal the estate documents . Does he want to interfere with the will?
Flora thought," I will stay quiet. My actions will speak. Andrew should have thought twice before challenging me. He will regret it.
Flora had already freshened up.
She took her time in the bathroom, letting the warm water wash the stress of the night away. When she came out, she looked different. She looked powerful.
She wore a corporate blue suit. The suit hugged her body perfectly. The jacket was sharp on her shoulders, the trousers straight and clean. Under it she wore a white silk top. Her hair was packed neatly, her face was fresh with light makeup, her lips were red. She looked like a billion-dollar treasure.
She was ready to go meet Barrister Martin.
In the living room, Flora’s lawyer Ave was already waiting. She looked breathtaking in her tailored suit, her hair packed neatly into a ponytail. Her sparkly inner shirt peeked from beneath her jacket. She sat pretty with her legs crossed, scrolling through messages on her phone.
Benson, Flora’s brother, sat at the other end of the couch, observing Ave. He wasn’t a fan of women in the legislative business, but he respected them. In fact, women were the last thing on his mind when it came to work. Flora’s house wasn’t just a random home, there were cameras everywhere. Still, he couldn’t deny it - Ave was a spec.
Click, click... Flora’s footsteps could be heard from a distance, getting closer.
"Let’s go, we are late," Flora said, holding her bag perfectly.
"You look gorgeous, Madam Flora.
"You too,Ave.
Benson blushed, looked at the two beautiful women .
Before they could get to the front passage, there was a noise outside. Flora paid close attention to know where it was coming from.
Lo and Behold. It was the chef and her mother.
The old woman was kneeling, and the chef stood beside her. Her face looked pale, tears filled her eyes. One could see that she was broken.
"I am not saying what she did is good. I know it is wrong. But please, I beg you with your kind heart, forgive her and take her back. I have cautioned her seriously. From now henceforth, nothing like this will ever happen again. Please, Madam."
Flora’s blood went hot.
She moved to where she was, and her guest stepped back and waited.
"I told you to leave my compound," Flora pointed at the chef. "I walked you out myself. Who let you back in?"
She continued begging, "Please forgive her. She has admitted her mistakes. For old time’s sake, temper justice with mercy."
Flora looked at the security man at the gate. "Who let her in?"
The security man shook his head in fear "Madam, it was not me. It was... it was Maya that opened the gate for her."
Maya!.
Flora’s anger grew instantly. Her chest became tight. Maya again. Maya was stepping on her toes lately. Maya is making decisions in her house like she owned the house.
Flora wanted to drag Maya out right there.
But she looked back. Ave and Benson were watching everything. The staff are not left out. They all stood like statues, watching the drama.
Simon was standing near the flowers, immediately the gardener walked up to him.
He cleaned his dirty hands on his trousers and shook his head.
"I pity the poor woman," he said.
Simon sighed deeply. He had his arms folded and his eyes were fixed on the main scene.
"Me too," Simon replied.
For a few seconds, none of them spoke. Both of them were watching the drama.
"People are ungrateful and it hurts," Simon said quietly. "You help them, you trust them, and they stab you in the back."
The gardener looked at him with understanding. His voice was full of sincerity.
"I will forever remain grateful to Madam as long as I live. She gave me this job when I had nothing. I will never forget her. Never."
Simon nodded. He understood that kind of loyalty.
"It only takes a woman who can save the world out of her good heart to let a case go like this," Simon said. "What the chef did is a criminal act. If it were another person, she would be in a police station by now."
"Exactly," the gardener said. "She is too good. Too kind."
Simon smiled faintly and his tone changed, as if he remembered something hopeful.
"But there are still people out there with an appreciative heart. I know a man who was saved from kidney disease by a stranger. A woman he never knew paid for everything, and that man vowed to serve her forever. Out of gratitude."
The gardener was surprised. He raised his eyebrows.
"Really? Oh mine, that is the kind of appreciation we are talking about," he said, his voice louder now.
"Exactly," Simon said.
Just at that moment, the security escorted the chef and her mother to the gate.
Flora was now ready to leave.
Simon and the gardener shook hands.
"Okay, see you later," Simon said.
"Alright," the gardener replied.
Simon rushed to where the car was parked as Flora and her guest moved towards the garage.
Today they are not using the Roll - Royce. Today they were driving one of the cars from her fleet — a Bentley Flying Spur. Deep blue, shining like water, quiet but powerful. She bought that car herself. After she closed a deal of 100 million pounds in her construction company. A deal that many men said she could never win. She won it and bought herself the Bentley as a gift. To tell herself, Flora, you are not just a widow. You are a boss.
Simon opened the back door with two hands. He bowed his head a little.
"Good morning, Ma," he said, but his eyes said something else," you look like heaven today.
Flora entered the back seat with her lawyer.
Simon gently closed the door behind them and went to enter the car. Benson was already sitting in the passenger seat. Flora’s perfume filled the car.
Simon adjusted the side mirror, not to check the road, but to look at Flora’s face while he drives.
He drove out of the compound, purring the big Bentley into the street.
Inside the car, it was quiet for a minute. Then Benson turned back.
"Big sister" What happened back there? What did the chef do? I have never seen you that angry." He asked.
Flora looked out of the window. Her face was strong, but her heart was tired. She was tired of trusting people.
"The chef did not just steal food," Flora said slowly. "She is a spy."
Benson frowned. Ave removed her glasses and listened.
"Andrew asked her to do it," Flora continued. "My late husband’s brother, Andrew promised to give her a huge amount of money if she could successfully bring the estate documents to him. The documents in my safe."
The car became very silent. Even the AC sound could be heard.
"What?" Ave was shocked. Her beautiful face changed. "That is a criminal offence. That is conspiracy."
Flora nodded. "He thinks he can use the poor girl I helped against me. But she ran out of luck, Simon caught her."
Benson’s mood changed immediately. He turned to face flora.
"Oh, he did that? I will crush that man with my bare hands! What a wicked mindset!"
Flora said calmly, "You don’t have to stress yourself. I can handle people of his type."
Benson shook his head, his fists clenched. "No, sister. Allow me to deal with him."
Flora looked at him and smiled, but it was an angry smile.
"You know what your sister can do," she said. "Don’t worry."
Benson calmed himself down but his mind travelled..
"Andrew has been acting suspiciously, and he only allowed him around the company because of the respect he has for his sister’s husband. With this action, it is clear proof that he is an enemy to be dealt with."
Now his heart started beating fast.
Could that be the reason Andrew came to the company? Could this be the has been nice to him lately? Was Andrew also trying to use him against his sister, the way he used the chef?"
Benson swallowed hard and looked at Flora in the mirror. He felt guilt and anger at the same time.
Simon was watching them from the driving mirror. His hand tightened on the steering wheel. The boiling anger inside him grew even more.
Simon thought to himself: Andrew can dance, but only for a short while. He will soon beg the drummer to stop beating.
When a child refuses to ask what killed his mother, he will end up drinking from that same poison with his own hands."
Andrew can only bark but can never bite, because a toothless dog stays inside."
Benson turned to Flora and said, ’We need to stop at the construction site first. I need to fix something important before we go to Barrister Martin’s office.’
Flora nodded. She looked at Simon through the mirror.
’"Simon, please reverse, she said."Head towards downtown. Let’s go to the construction site first before the lawyer’s office."
"Okay Ma.
Simon immediately turned and sped down the street, touring the beautiful road in style.
