Chapter 395
Chapter 395: Who Are You?
Those who recognized Zhang Shou and knew of his influence ruefully shook their heads. Only a fool would choose to offend one of the big bosses in City A.
And even if one wasn’t familiar with Zhang Shou, he would only need to ask around to know that the man was backed by some pretty powerful forces.
This handsome young man was too reckless, attacking Zhang Shou in a fit of anger. Now, he was going to pay for it for the rest of his life.
Sure enough, three people stormed into the café as soon as Zhang Shou issued his threats.
They were tall, burly men dressed in black, and had glowering faces. They, too, gave the impression that they shouldn’t be messed with.
Zhang Shou puffed up when his goons appeared. “Did you call the chief of police?” he barked at one of them.
“Yes, Boss,” the other man immediately replied. “Don’t worry, they will be here soon.”
A diabolical grin appeared on Zhang Shou’s face. He turned to Cheng Yan and said, “You’re going to be dead meat. Don’t even think about running away. If you’re a man, stay here and wait for your retribution. You will pay for everything I suffered today!”
Cheng Yan didn’t even glance at him. At that moment, his attention was focused on Yao Tang. “Where would you like to eat tonight? We haven’t had a meal together in a long time.”
Seeing that his enemies weren’t taking him seriously, Zhang Shou almost flew into another fit of rage. He did hold himself back at the last minute, though.
“Listen to me, Yao Tang. If you come to me and forget about that bastard, I can forgive everything you’ve said and done. Do you understand? But if you insist on being stubborn, you will bear the consequences. I’ll make you wish you were dead!”
As if on cue, two of his men flanked him on either side, further boosting his arrogance.
And yet, the young couple in front of him wasn’t the least bit fazed. When they continued to ignore him, Zhang Shou finally instructed his lackeys to move. “Go! Go and teach these imbeciles a lesson they will never forget!”
The men began to approach Cheng Yan.
Across the room, Yan Wei leaned forward in her seat in anticipation.
That gorgeous man would be hers in the end.
For now, she should bide her time and wait for things to take their course. Once he was locked away in prison, she would swoop in and rescue him.
In this way, she would have his gratitude, and later on, his affections.
The corners of Yan Wei’s lips curled into a cunning smile. She picked up her fork and popped a piece of dessert into her mouth.
It seemed like everyone in the café held their breaths as the men drew closer to Cheng Yan. Then, before anyone could make sense of what was happening, all three hooligans were knocked to the ground.
“Zhang Shou,” Cheng Yan called out in a taunting voice. “The heir of the biggest open-source real estate conglomerate in City A. You started your business selling a bunch of land. Your father passed away two years ago. Also, I heard that your parents’ residence was robbed recently, is that right? And you gave a ten-million bribery to a government official, didn’t you?”
The color drained from Zhang Shou’s face. He felt as though a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head.
He gaped at Cheng Yan with a horrified expression.
Why… How… How did this boy know about these matters?
Zhang Shou subconsciously fell back, terrified that Cheng Yan would divulge more information about his misdeeds.
Thoughts of revenge disappeared from his mind—all he could think about was retreat. And escape.
“Who are you?” Zhang Shou muttered under his breath.
As expected, the other customers were just as shocked when they heard Cheng Yan speak of Zhang Shou’s illicit conduct.
They really thought he would be dispatched by Zhang Shou’s men, but they were clearly mistaken. Not only had he overpowered the thugs, but he had also revealed Zhang Shou’s dark secrets.
Exactly who was this young man?
Judging by everything they had just seen, he was likely another key player in the financial world, so why hadn’t they heard of him before?
Yan Wei was frozen in her chair, taken aback by this sudden development. Her surprise soon gave way to interest, however. She preferred a man with his own strengths, after all.
She was determined more than ever to take Cheng Yan for herself.
“Who am I?” Cheng Yan mocked. “You’re not worthy enough to know the answer to that. I suggest you consider your options carefully. Your wings would be clipped the moment you’re thrown in prison.”
Cheng Yan chuckled lightheartedly as he let the implications hang in the air between them.
Zhang Shou took a few more steps back.
His fear was so palpable that a few of the nearby customers flinched when he moved.
His mind was racing, but he couldn’t grasp a single coherent thought.
Just then, one of his goons crawled over to his feet and whimpered. “Boss, right now…”
“Get lost!” Zhang Shou screamed, kicking the man off him.
